jackson house is a ‘hole in the wall’ lunch only amazing diamond in the rough, hidden not far from the center of harrisburg. this is not a linen table cloth monogrammed napkin fine dining establishment.

we make it a point to each order something different every time we go, and invariably to rave reviews. sirloin burgers and real deal philly cheese steaks are the features. being close to the state offices, there is a steady stream of cubical folks picking up takeout orders.

thisplacegets busy…and parking can be a challenge, so we always go early. we always order and eat in so that we can people watch and listen in.

delectable burgers are one of their featured specialties; thick, flavorful juicy and delicious. they are huge, prepared with a huge variety of options, and expert doneness. this is not mcd’s where you have to hunt for “where’s the beef!”

subs and philly cheese steaks are served on incredibly scrumptious crusty buns. again there are not only an amazing array of meat and cheese, but side and condiment choices as well.

if you are a first timer …..look at the menu before you go, talk to others, and listen (put your phone down) while you are in line. there will be people behind you waiting, this is a business, so listen and apply what you observe to your efficient non-time wasting order.

new components are sourced on a daily basis, so be prepared if you go late on a busy high volume day, as choices will diminish and they do run out.

bring a hearty appetite and be prepared to be happily amazed!

burgers that harrisburgers hate to love.. by oden's beard these burgers are amazing! jackson burger is 1/2 lb of meat and at least 500 tons of awesome sauce wrapped in the thickest cuts of bacon this side of the stock yards. as a harrisburg native (harrisburger?) this is theplaceyou hate to love. be prepared to nurse a food baby full term because this will weigh you down in the most satisfying way possible.

fantastic fresh food. highly recommend thisplacefor a great lunch. the roasted red peppers and sweet peppers go well on the subs.

bravo sir.......bravo. literally just finished eating at jackson house for my first time and can hardly put words to how amazing this food was. i had the triple decker turkey sandwich and it was phenomenal! first off there had to been at least 2 inches thick of turkey (deli sliced) with ltmo, i have to say this was the best sandwich i have had in years maybe even ever. it is the kind of sandwich you might make for yourself on a lazy friday after you just called out of work for no reason. thisplaceis a game changer, food: 10/10, atmosphere: 10/10, space: 7/10, and price: 8/10.

just to be devil's advocate...thisplacedoes not take credit or debit cards so be warned...bring cash, they also don't have a lot of space inside to sit but they do a very good job arranging the tables so everyone who can sit, sits comfortably. lastly, the parking was a bit hard to deal with, but with a little luck we found a spot on a adjacent street.

this goes without saying i will be a return customer for life and i will recommend thisplaceto all my friends and coworkers....again wow

greater harrisburg's best burger. i had heard about the jackson house for years, and figured what is there to making a burger? why does everyone make such a big deal about this place? well, i finally stopped in and wow their burgers are absolutely perfect. they tend to fall apart because they are not pressed into a little hockey puck. they crunch on the outside, nice and tender and juicy on the inside, and the jackson house sauce is the perfect complement. because they are messy you can't set them down when you eat. they are nice and big, too so if you aren't a big eater don't get the fries (although they were pretty good, too). also worth mentioning are the italian subs. i have had quite a few authentic italian subs - in philadelphia and new york, and these are some of the best. also, best to get to jackson house early (especially on fridays) since the line will get really long, and you won't have aplaceto sit. i have heard that on really busy days they stop making burgers before closing time because they run out of meat! jackson house rocks!

thisplaceis awesome! i am a hoagie lover and you just can't get much better. the oil and vinegar, the hot peppers, the fresh veggies and most of all the bread are all perfect in my opinion! don't whine about the wait... it's totally worth it.

i spend a lot of time in philadelphia and it's environs. i will put up a jackson house hoagie up against anyplacethere! simply fantastic! if it were open nights and weekends, i wouldn't eat anywhere else.

i have yet to have anything bad here. burgers are by far the best around. if you remember the snl cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger skit, you'll have a good idea of what thisplaceis. note that noon hour is packed....every day!!!
