jackson house is a ‘hole in the wall’ lunch only amazing diamond in the rough, hidden not far from the center of harrisburg. this is not a linen table cloth monogrammed napkin fine dining establishment.

we make it a point to each order something different every time we go, and invariably to rave reviews. sirloin burgers and real dealphillycheese steaks are the features. being close to the state offices, there is a steady stream of cubical folks picking up takeout orders.

this place gets busy…and parking can be a challenge, so we always go early. we always order and eat in so that we can people watch and listen in.

delectable burgers are one of their featured specialties; thick, flavorful juicy and delicious. they are huge, prepared with a huge variety of options, and expert doneness. this is not mcd’s where you have to hunt for “where’s the beef!”

subs andphillycheese steaks are served on incredibly scrumptious crusty buns. again there are not only an amazing array of meat and cheese, but side and condiment choices as well.

if you are a first timer …..look at the menu before you go, talk to others, and listen (put your phone down) while you are in line. there will be people behind you waiting, this is a business, so listen and apply what you observe to your efficient non-time wasting order.

new components are sourced on a daily basis, so be prepared if you go late on a busy high volume day, as choices will diminish and they do run out.

bring a hearty appetite and be prepared to be happily amazed!

a bit ofphillyin the burg!. first you have to understand that i have lived in the harrisburg area for over 25 years and on tuesday december 31st 2013 i finally had a chance to eat here.
i was not let down on the decor, early chow house..(like the old time coal towns). if you are in any way claustrophobic (stay away) it is tight to order your food and limited seating inside.
i ordered aphillysteak sandwich wit whiz and no onions, the sandwich arrived in a classic philadelphia steak roll and reached both ends of my paper plate (come on would you want to do dishes??)
it was hot and juicy, the sauce (meat sauce/gravy) was dripping out of the bun.
i enjoyed every bite!
i do not know why i waited so long to eat here, oh yea, they are only open mon-fri from 10:30am until 2pm and the grill shuts down at 1:40pm.
i will be making the jackson house one of my weekly lunch locations here in harrisburg.

when you really need a hoagie. this is where you go in harrisburg. i would put theirs up against anything at the reading terminal market any day. i'm just thankful they are only open for lunch because if they weren't i wouldn't eat anywhere else. rolls ( real rolls- not pizza dough) are brought in fromphillyevery day. real freida's meats. they cut the tomatoes as they need them.

the boys know what they are doing!

burgers. great hole in the wall spot! seating for some and food is most certainly made to order. would recommend calling ahead and picking up rather than waiting as lines may become rather long. i ordered the lester burger which was good. it is a hearty 1/2 burger topped with mushrooms, bacon, and cheese. worth a trip back for their famousphillycheesesteaks! worth the trip and it is conveniently located in relation to the capitol building!

jackson house. one of the best sandwiches i have ever had came from here. their bread is made fresh inphillyand trucked up to harrisburg. i usually go with a jackson burger or a ms. andreoli's hoagie, that aged provolone is great. the only drawback is that they are only open on weekdays from 10:30 am - 2:00 pm with the grill closing at 1:40. easily one of, if not the, best lunch spot in the entire city.
