disgusted. i have been coming to the italianstoresince july 2003. i love the place. however, since returning to northern virginia in 2013, the italianstorehas gone downhill. two reasons. customer service is terrible. are the employees away in one big bad mood all damn day? crack a smile, laugh, maybe say "hello.". it would not hurt if the 15 year olds making my sandwich would actually look up and acknowledge the guy who is supporting their job. today, a man ordered a turkey sub at around 5pm. the kid taking the order was so obnoxious i wanted to walk out.

i would have except i was starving and their food is pretty good. that brings me to my second point. the subs in 2003 2ere twice the size what they are now. what the hell? any standards? and what gives with the nasty cashiers? why is a place that is obviously making a nice profit and not working on the margin employ such jerk-off help?

i am taking a year off to go to face and cornucopia.

get your act together and i'll come back. this is just friendly advice to a once great institution. we all lose our way in life. please turn on your gps.

the italianstorehas good ny style pizza and you can get whatever they happen to have around by the slice. the people at the pizza counter tend to not have the best people skills here, which is odd, because the people making hoagies are personable. this is a good place for the thin crust, charred bottom style of pizza, but i rarely order pizza here because there philly hoagies are amazing. even the vegetarian hoagie is great. this place does not really have seating; there are a few tables outside.

simply the best cold cut subs in the dc area. the italianstoreis a must stop, if you are craving an italian style cold cut sub,
there is always a line, but it is so worth it. though the line may seem endless, the staff is super efficient, and you'll have your sub in 5 minutes. i would suggest, the milan or the romano plus a pack of altoids for desert. :-)

great stuff!

this hearty lunch option is bursting with italian meats and cheeses served on either a hard or soft roll (i recommend the latter) dressed with oil, lettuce, onions, and hot and/or sweet peppers. located in a strip mall off of lee highway in arlington, the italianstorespecializes in philadelphia-style italian subs as well as pizzas, fresh pasta sauces, and a variety of other italian staples. and while the outside is non-descript, the word has been out for some time that this is pretty much the only place to go in arlington for sandwiches and pizza of this quality, so expect large crowds. and true to its italian roots, expect plenty of chaos, disorganization, and long waits -- all of which the consultant in me really wants to consult with management to improve. also, there is a no doubt that the grocery selections are grossly overpriced. first tip: if you are

sandwiches. all the reviews about the pizza and the market are great, but i think the true wonder of the italianstoreis the sandwich menu. cappicola, mortadella, prosciutto, salami of all types with provolone, mozzarella, and a host of other cheeses stuffed onto tender rolls with pepperoncini, oil/vinegar, olives, lettuce and other trimmings. i would drive an hour (which is what it would take) on a random tuesday just to get a sandwich here.

excellent pizza and subs. like some of the other reviews here, i have made the 45 -50 trip from my home to order a sub or pick up a pizza from the italianstoreand i've never been disappointed.

i really love that they make subs correctly. by pulling some of the bread out of the roll and folding the meat over the veggies the sub stays together. heaven!

the ambience inside thestoreis one of organized chaos. i usually expect to wait about 15 minutes for my sub, so i just look around at their wine selections, pick up some cookies and look at their handmade pastas in the cold case.

highly recommended.

italian convenience. in a million years i wouldn't normally buy a slice or pizza or a sub at a specialty store. sure, sure...homemade raviolis and pasta sauces, tortellinis, canalones, tiramisu, and panne cotte...all delicious. but to walk in and order a sub, i just wouldn't ever do it. that is until i stumbled upon the italian store. i would go out of my way to get a sub from the italian store. i would wait for the italianstoreto open in the morning and be late for work to get a sub from the italian store!

fresh ingredients, home baked bread...can't be beat. highly recommended.
