for the letter i - the alphabet list is a bit lacking - so i decided to take this one into my own hands and choseislandfrydays in clifton as the choice. it's on short vine next to the firehouse and you can't miss it. seriously - how could you miss that yellow? here's a quick look at their menu - and yes - they have goat and oxtail. here's a full menu . also - fun drinks! i was dying for a regular boring coke but wish i'd tried the kola champagne and how can you not drink something called ting?! i got the small jerk chicken dinner - yes - that's the small ($8). that's rice and beans (or you could choose yellow rice), steamed vegetables, chicken (choose dark or light) and plantains. zomg. de. lish. seriously - it was fantastic. they put some of the gravy on the rice - even better. it was sweet & spicy. the steamed vegetables were even good! the plantains - perfect. love love love this place! i also got one of their "patties" - they have beef, chicken and veggie ($2) - i got veggie...bu

if you’re up for a food adventure, islandfrydays is the place to go!  this restaurant, which serves jamaican and caribbean food, makes up in flavor what it lacks in atmosphere.  instead of fancy plates, a wait staff, and ambiance, it’s self-ordering, takeout containers, and no frills dining.  sometimes, that’s exactly what a girl wants!

yum!. ok, so i was a bit apprehensive to tryislandfrydays because the last time i had carribean food (from another establishment) it was very spicy. my first impression, the place is very clean, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and there's a nice little crowd of customers. then i tasted the food; wonderful! everything obviously made from scratch by a very talented cook! don't be afraid to try it; perfect amount of spice and they give you huge portions. the kids were even fighting over the leftovers. a+.

an excellent place to eat. my wife and i recently came back from a visit to st. maarten, where we ate much localislandfood. unfortunately, there are not many places like it here in the states. or so we thought. i stumbled uponislandfrydays, by accident, but when i smelled the familiar smells and saw the large grill out front (called lolo's in the caribbean) i was excited. as soon as the man on the grill gave me a sample of his chicken, i was sold. this place is incredible. they serve all sorts of wonderful items, but i was most excited for the jerk chicken, their fried plantains, and rice with gravy. i paired that with anotherislandfavorite, a jamaican ginger beer, and was in heaven. you can dine indoor or outdoor, and the friendly service, and great prices make this a must try in cincinnati.

a little taste of paradise. just flew into cincinnati for the pats and bengals game. looked up on caribbean food in town, and found this little gem tucked away on vine street. the 15 mile drive from the airport in the rain was worth it. i had the curry goat, and jerk chicken. it was some of the best jerk i've tasted in the usa. the chicken was tender and moist with the right kind of spice. the curry goat had a hint of kick to it, but incredibly tasty. don't miss out on the jerk fries and the fried plantains as well, and wash it down with a refreshing ginger beer. what a find! i may make trips to cincy just for someislandfrydays! the crew was very friendly as well. i just joined urbanspoon to post this review! wish they can open a restaurant in des moines,' ia.

no worries. i just hadislandfrydays for lunch, and it's a safe bet i'll be going back soon to sample some other menu items. i got the jerk chicken sandwich($3) and a beef pattie($2). the sandwich was huge for the price, and the pattie was definitely worth it as well. the bread used on the sandwich was big and soft, and really quite good. there were 2 jerk chicken breasts, lettuce and tomato. i wish i hadn't been in such a hurry as i pretty much had to inhale it. one bit of advice: don't get the pattie if you are in a hurry, you will scorch your tastebuds when the magma contained in the pastry shoots out- hot!! i don't know where else to get these patties around town, it definitely reminded me of jamaica. where's my red stripe and cuban cigar?!

excellent place!. i sought outislandfrydays to get a taste of caribbean, and it really delivered. my friend suggested trying the beef pattie and coco bread sandwich after having them from ny street vendors, but i wanted chicken too. the cute co-worker suggested the jerk chicken as the best of the chicken dishes, and man was she right. it had an excellent grilled flavor with a great blend of spices. as my friend put it, it was how you want your chicken to taste when you grill it yourself. the man who put our order together asked if i wanted white or dark. i said both and was delighted to see him produce a huge meat cleaver and get to work chopping up large pieces of chicken. it came with really good steamed cabbage and veggies, delicious fried plantains (which we think may have been sauteed) that were very sweet - like a delicious sweet potato, and some rice with beans in it. when asked if i wanted some of the chicken gravy on the rice, i said yeah, lets try half. the half that got it blew away the half that didn't. it was an au jus that really gave the rice and beans a whole new flavor element, and helped disperse the dry feeling you can get from rice sometimes. i'll always get it like this from now on. and for $8, it was a very large portion.

then i realized i also ordered the pattie and coco bread. i had to at least take a few bites before taking the rest home. it was great. the patties are normally fried, but theirs were still flaky and dry, and not heavy in the slightest, so i think they may have been baked, which is great. the coco bread was soft and sweet. it reminded me a lot of hawaiian bread, but different. i loved the place, and i will definitely be back.

jamaican paradise. this restaurant was found by accident. lured to the domino's pizza place across the street on vine, i spotted the flamboyant jamaican-inspired design of this newly-opened restaurant. i arrived at 11:30, and there were no other people in the restaurant. however, the friendly hostess guided my choices for take-out, and i tried the jerk-chicken. it is very well done, quite toned-down in spiceyness compared to theislandversion. the sides are very well done, including the plantain, steamed vegetables (very fresh and some of the best i have had!), red beans and rice, and very cheesey macaroni and cheese. i am returning to try the jerk-red snapper that is available only fridays and saturdays. i found out that jerk-fish was prepared on weekends during my wait, as 4 other people entered the restaurant while i was waiting and asked for it. very generous portions, and very high quality fast-food, right on the doorstep of the university of cincinnati!
