good happy hour pick. this is a goodplaceto stop for happy hour if you're down powell. the beer is great, so much to choose from just among their own brews. as for the food, it's what you would expect. sandwiches, salads, etc., and what i've had so far was fairly ho hum. the wings however are fairly tasty and complement the beer nicely. i have also heard good things about the pizza , so i'll have to give that a try next time.

organic brew and killer food. went here on their opening night in march which was a big mistake, but only because theplacewas mobbed....and for good reason. the beer here is exceptional. hoppy ipa's, coffee flavored seven grain stout that left me dizzy wanting more, and a flavorful pale ale. we had to leave because the wait was over an hour long, but we managed to squeeze up to the bar and get a beer before we left. the manager overheard our conversation while we discussed leaving and coming back on another day because we were too hungry to wait. to our surprise and delight, he brought each of us a free slice of pizza as an apology for the long wait. are you kidding? good customer service and free pizza?...oh yeah, we were going to come back here for sure.

so, we went back last week and were seated within 20 minutes and had a good experience. theplaceis decorated with an odd mixture of old timber from the original building, newer wood accents, a funky metal staircase, and bicycle frames strung together with wire overhanging the main bar. sounds weird but somehow this all works well together and feels very "portland funky".

the beer menu "seems" larger than the food menu, but that's just because the impressive variety of beer is more impressive the variety of choices on the food menu. i'm not complaining! the menu has all the usual pub suspects: soup, salad, burgers, sausage, and pizza. the difference is that the food here seems to be typical pub grub on steroids. huge burgers, sausage that sticks out of both sides of the bun, and amazingly good pizza (given it is made in a brewub). we thoroughly enjoyed everything here including the enthusiastic and friendly service. we also appreciated getting out of there for less than fifty bucks for all we ate and drank.

from the greeter at the door, to the bartenter, and then our server...the people at hopworks actually seem to enjoy themselves, and genuinely like working here. a refreshing change from the snarly or unconsious service we get at other places.

all in all, i give thisplacea big thumbs-up and look forward to our next visit.

delightful!!!. my brother and i were in portland today on business. i told him of the many rave reviews and positive approval rating of hub. he agreed we just had to try it. we spit a medium pizza (the nld i believe) and it was just amazing. we each had a flagon of their fantastic grog. mine was a stout, which had a distinct coffee flavor, and he had their unique ipa. delicious! our server, erin, was a sprightly and extremely pleasant young woman who did all in her power to make our visit memorable and interesting. she brought us samples of wonderful ale. i think she called it dark india ale. she told us a bit of the history of theplaceand even produced a bound book of photos depicting the various stages of the renovation. hub richly deserves it 91 % "i like it" rating.

a must try. the hub is a portland favorite. the tasty variety of organic brews, eco-and-stomach-friendly menu and wonderful service make thisplacetough to top. the kid play area even makes it family friendly. i recommend to anyone who likes to eat and/or drink.

portland has so many fun brewpubs. i loved the atmosphere, the decor, art and beer. thisplaceis surprisingly large and every table was filled on a friday night. the server brought us our beer within a minute. i really liked the "survival stout". it was smooth and creamy with a coffee flavor. my second beer the "mash tun time machine" a dark winter ale was also great. the food options are perfect for a brewpub! i had the calzone with chicken and olympia provision sausage which was tasty. i definitely had leftovers. this a livelyplaceso if you want a quietplaceto talk i might think about another option.

featured on drinking made easy. one thing i'm learning is that like portlanders like to eat and drink and they know where to go for eats and drinks. hopworks was certainly hopping with customers and it was a energizing happy atmosphere where all ages seemed to be enjoying themselves. it's a greatplaceif

the restaurant is beautiful. awesome light fixtures, classy but not overdone paint and decorations, and a decidedly over-crowded establishment gives theplacea very homey feel. i recall sitting down and eating one hell of a calzone. it was gigantic, full of amazing ingredients, and decidedly tasty. as for the brew, it stands up against all of the other amazing portland breweries quite well, especially on (you guessed it) the lighter, hoppier side of the spectrum.

a must go when visiting portland.. we recently drove the entire pacific northwest and stopped at every brewery we could (probably about 8 or so). of all the breweries, even the ones in seattle, thisplacehad the best food!!! i give the beer a 4.0 out of 5, because well seattle's red hook was amazing and some of the beer's flavors didn't connect as well and others. the beer sampler was an endevor, but totally worth it. my wife keeps telling every one to go to voodoo doughnuts and this place. love the decor, easy to park, service was so-so that night. pretzels and beercheese!! so good. hunter calzone is one crazy eat, but it also works. my wife ordered the burger and after trying it i wanted to move to portland.

beer, burgers, kids. on a sunday at 5 in the evening, thisplacewas busy as it has been every time we've stopped by for beer and food. the restaurant side is very family friendly so expect there to be lots of kids. service was friendly and helpful, no complaints there. after picking out beers and ordering we looked over the menu. i choose a house salad for $5 and added chicken for another $3. it was just the right size for a light appetite but the chicken might have been a little more amble for the money. the other two meals were burgers and fried and they were great with a surprise of pineapple on the spicy one. we had homemade chocolate chip cookies each for dessert because that was the only thing that didn't come with ice cream and they were just a little warm and nice. when our bill came, we were a little surprised again that the goblet of "imperial" beer was $7.50 while the ales were $3.75 each and they were 16 ozs. i don't mind paying elsewhere, as much as $4.50 for a pint of good microbrew, but i tasted the imperial and it wasn't worth the price. pay attention to the big board in the bar side for prices of their special beers.

hit and miss. we first went with a group of 8 friends. our waiter was downright rude and impatient with us. everyone seemed to enjoy their food minus the comments about the rude waiter. ancho lime chicken sandwich is a nice twist to a chicken sandwich. second time was just my husband and me because i was craving that sandwich again. we sat in the entryway booth while the two hostess/waitress chatted between themselves. one finally asked if we'd been helped. our waitress was fine but not very attentative to refilling the water. my husband ordered the meat calozone but didn't think it was that great. the dough is more of a pizza dough rather than the usual thicker ones with slight crispyness on the outside. plus it was drenched in red sauce. while eating i looked up to watch the hostess sit down on the entryway booth, take her shoes off and put socks on. thought that was a badplaceto do it expecially since two couples walked in while she was putting one on and she greeted them while putting on the other sock. our waitress brought us our bill without even asking us if we wanted dessert or anything else. i actually did want dessert but changed my mind after she just gave us our bill. i'd go again for the food, but wouldn't expect much from the service.

love it!. great food, great beer. and there is an energy to theplacethat just warms my soul. it is truely kid friendly, unlike some places higher in the urbanspoon top ten list for this. the staff are nice to kids and helpful and there are play areas with toys that migrate from therfe to tables and back again. school age kids sometimes migrate too and parents are generally relaxed and friendly about this. fun for the whole family.

great spot. one of my fovorite places for weekend drinking. beers are strong and tasty, there is usually a game on although theplaceisn't plastered with tv's (nice). happy hour menu is quite good, although the pizza slices are a bit small for the price. table service is typically prompt although bar service is much faster.

great beer. i'm not an ipa fan usually, but their organic ipa was delicious... i got the beer sampler and enjoyed just about all of them on there. this is a greatplaceif you enjoy sampling and enjoying different types of brews. also the pear & nut salad was much better than i was expecting for a brewery. 2 thumbs up for beer junkies!!
