good happy hour pick. this is a good place to stop for happy hour if you're down powell. the beer is great, so much to choose from just among their own brews. as for the food, it's what you would expect. sandwiches, salads, etc., and what i've had so far was fairly ho hum. the wings however are fairly tasty and complement the beer nicely. i have also heard good things about the pizza , so i'll have to give that a try next time.

organic brew and killer food. went here on their opening night in march which was a big mistake, but only because the place was mobbed....and for good reason. the beer here is exceptional. hoppy ipa's, coffee flavored seven grain stout that left me dizzy wanting more, and a flavorful pale ale. we had to leave because the wait was over an hour long, but we managed to squeeze up to the bar and get a beer before we left. the manager overheard our conversation while we discussed leaving and coming back on another day because we were too hungry to wait. to our surprise and delight, he brought each of us a free slice of pizza as an apology for the long wait. are you kidding? good customer service and free pizza?...oh yeah, we were going to come back here for sure.

so, we went back last week and were seated within 20 minutes and had a good experience. the place is decorated with an odd mixture of old timber from the original building, newer wood accents, a funky metal staircase, and bicycle frames strung together with wire overhanging the main bar. sounds weird but somehow this all works well together and feels very "portland funky".

the beer menu "seems" larger than the food menu, but that's just because the impressive variety of beer is more impressive the variety of choices on the food menu. i'm not complaining! the menu has all the usual pub suspects: soup, salad, burgers, sausage, and pizza. the difference is that the food here seems to be typical pub grub on steroids. huge burgers, sausage that sticks out of both sides of the bun, and amazingly good pizza (given it is made in a brewub). we thoroughly enjoyed everything here including the enthusiastic and friendly service. we also appreciated getting out of there for less than fifty bucks for all we ate and drank.

from the greeter at the door, to the bartenter, and then our server...the people at hopworks actually seem to enjoy themselves, and genuinely like working here. a refreshing change from the snarly or unconsious service we get at other places.

all in all, i give this place a big thumbs-up and look forward to our next visit.

delightful!!!. my brother and i were in portland today on business. i told him of the many rave reviews and positive approval rating of hub. he agreed we just had to try it. we spit a medium pizza (the nld i believe) and it was just amazing. we each had a flagon of their fantastic grog. mine was a stout, which had a distinct coffee flavor, and he had their unique ipa. delicious! our server, erin, was a sprightly and extremely pleasant young woman who did all in her power to make our visit memorable and interesting. she brought us samples of wonderful ale. i think she called it dark india ale. she told us a bit of the history of the place and even produced a bound book of photos depicting the various stages of the renovation. hub richly deserves it 91 % "i like it" rating.

a must try. the hub is a portland favorite. the tasty variety of organic brews, eco-and-stomach-friendly menu and wonderful service make this place tough to top. the kid play area even makes it family friendly. i recommend to anyone who likes to eat and/or drink.

love hub. the wait for hub to open was a long and torturous, but we were certainly rewarded for our patience! let me start with the beer... mmmmm, please. perfect portland ales, and the crosstown pale is my easy-drinkin' staple. served a keg of it at a party i had and it was drained *way too* quickly!!
the ambience and size of the dining areas are great- very kid friendly but not so much so that the non parents are bothered. the play-dough is the best idea ever.
now for the food, i really love the ale pretzels with mustard, but they fill me up so i spoil my dinner, which is something i don't want to do! the salads are hearty enough to be a meal, and tasty combos keep them interesting, but the burger is truly sublime. someone knows how to do their beef right! and i am not afraid to order medium-rare, either! the pizza is very good, though i reserve my pizza jones for apizza scholls (see other review). all members of my family give it a thumbs-up!

just not memorable...or at least, hopefully forgettable. mediocre brews. stuck back in the "chuck-e-cheese" section. at least the company was great!

i wanted to love this place. the food was great. the portions were much larger than a lot of the ones you around portland. the beer selection was good, and the atmosphere was fun and funky. however after waiting 45 minutes for a to-go box and the check, i just can't say too much nice about them. our server was around, but he was definitely playing favorites. he checked on his friends 3 times and the big family twice, before he thought to ask us if we needed a box. then he disappeared for another 15 minutes before returning without a box and asking again.

don't sit in the lounge. they say it's full service, but it most certainly isn't.

portland has so many fun brewpubs. i loved the atmosphere, the decor, art and beer. this place is surprisingly large and every table was filled on a friday night. the server brought us our beer within a minute. i really liked the "survival stout". it was smooth and creamy with a coffee flavor. my second beer the "mash tun time machine" a dark winter ale was also great. the food options are perfect for a brewpub! i had the calzone with chicken and olympia provision sausage which was tasty. i definitely had leftovers. this a lively place so if you want a quiet place to talk i might think about another option.

the atmosphere is always fun. they have good cider. but it's def not all it's cracked up to be. don't order a power salad, because it's such a waste of $$. you gotta go classic pub food to get your money worth at the hub. and the garlic fries will leave you tasting garlic for a full 24 hours (heads up)

great beer selections. the food was not the most imaginative out there, but i really appreciate that it was fresh and farm-to-table. all in all, can't go wrong!

had dinner here and all was ok. being aussies the beer was only mediocre, not up to our home standards. food was run of the mill pub grub and was ok. nice ambiance, not a bad experience, but didn't knock out socks of either.
