i could not rave more about this fantastic restaurant! i was visiting family (i'm living and working in auckland), and had a look at zomato to see what was new and trending in terms of restaurants around adelaide. hoosegow charcoal restaurant was on that list, and i thought, "why not, lets give it a go".

i made a reservation online well in advance. when we arrived, our server showed us to our table and exclaimed that she was excited because i was their first international guest - i tried to say that i was originally from adelaide, but they wouldn't have a bar of it! they started us off with some table water, and a bowl of popcorn (free), which was delicious - my nan's friend wanted to tip it into her purse and take it all home with her (maybe they could sell it as a 'take home' option?). 

everything on the menu looked delicious, but the meat plate for two looked particularly good. $119, but worth every cent - it was enough for all three of us, and with more to take home! in fact, my nan and i had what was left for dinner the next day (they were happy to pack leftovers for us). we also had the confit garlic bulb, charred ciabatta, butter, pecorino as a starter, and a plate of squid.

the service was attentive, and thestaffdolled on us all night, even down to showing us to the door when we were ready to leave, and opening it for us. it was a lovely experience and i definitely want to go back with friends the next time i am in adelaide.

also, as an aside - they're on dimmi and qantas restaurants, so make sure you book through them to get your points!

fantastic service - thestaffhere are attentive, friendly and talkative; but not to the point where it's intrusive. 
the food here is pricey - but well worth the price. i'd go so far to say it's one of the best steaks in adelaide (the ms5 rump in medium rare is to die for!).

if i could give this place 100 stars i would do it without hesitation. i went here tonight for my work end of year dinner and was blown away with not only the food but the service, ambiance and overall atmosphere. the menu is not cheap but the quality and presentation of the food is worth every dollar spent. all the dishes were excellent but my main meal (wagyu eye fillet with truffle mash, mushroom and asparagus) would easily be one of the best meals i have ever had in my life. the flavours were out of this world and every mouthful was heaven! whoever designed this menu is a genius and thestaffcooking it are equality as talented! thanks for a great experience!

went here last week and fell in love with the ambience almost immediately. it feels like you’re taken away from adelaide and entered a south american villa with its bright red tones, decor, sounds and smells. thestaffhere are so delightful and ready to help in any way with smiles all round. we had 13 people altogether but we ordered individual meals. the menu offers a variety of appetisers, mains, steak from the chargrill or seafood. i had the spicy, sticky ribs with fat chips, chipotle, and pineapple salsa. i absolutely love every part of my dish! my partner had the rib eye steak and ate it so fast because it was grilled perfectly and he couldn’t resist. others ordered the meat platter which came with a combination of the chargrilled meats and ribs. i will definitely be back to this restaurant and have recommended it to all my friends already.

thestaffis average and not very attentive and customer feels like they are in a production line. the food is tasty but all main meals have to be ordered with sides which then becomes a very expensive exercise. ambiance of the restaurant feels like youre in a big rectangle without atmosphere. been here a few times now and hope they improve.

very impressed by this place - a little on the expensive side but they were happy to use entertainment book vouchers which made it more affordable. the entrees were nice and the meats were very good quality. one of the best meat places at the moment!staffare great and the team all saying farewell at the door on the way out is a nice touch. will be back.

i have driven/walked past here so many times and thought it was time to give it a go. we walked in and the decor is just lovely. the key area i was impressed with was the attention to absorbing sound with decor sound pads on the ceiling and walls in addition to soft seat cushions. this could be improved further with sound absorbing material under the table. thestaffwe all fantastic. started with the most amazing garlic bread served in the most amazing way 10/10. i had the specialty chicken with chips omg the flavours were out of this world and not a bone in sight 10/10. wine was 10/10 and there was something for everyone on the wine list. other orders were steak and the brisket for the table all are very generous served and were all fantastic 10/10. desserts were the affogato and chocolate tart another 10/10. table service was just stop on and not intrusive. everyone lined up at the door when people left to say thanks and wish you a good evening. so very impressed and will be back.

the food at hoosegow charcoal restaurant was incredible! my husband and i had the beef brisket and the pork belly and they were both cooked to perfection. the interior of the restaurant is open but still feels very intimate and cosy. the service was very impressive, thestaffwere extremely attentive and knowledgeable and were focused on making our night fantastic. the only slight downside was the pricing was quite a bit higher than your standard restaurant, however it was definitely worth it. we will be dining here again for sure!

the food was alright but was much too pricey for the quality presented. we both ordered pork dishes, i had the pork belly with pineapple and chilli salsa and cassava chips. unfortunately the meat, while certainly tender, had not much of a flavour and relied heavily on the pineapple salsa to give it good flavour. thestaffwere lovely though. for a good pork belly and pinapple salsa done right go to the propaganda club.

loved everything about this place! excellent service,staffwere cheerful and very welcoming. the food was tasty and beautifully presented. i really enjoyed the barramundi dish. the restaurant on saturday night was full and had a great vibe about it. i would definitely return.

just enjoyed a fabulous meal:-the meat plate to share was plentiful and great flavours. lovely waitstaffthanks nico. make sure you have the hot apple pie shot before you leave!

went saturday night with friends for the first time and very impressed.staffwere great, nothing was too much trouble. menu was impressive and food tasted great. meat melted in your mouth and generous portions. one of the meals was not quite right and was replaced without question. will definitely go back.

this is the place one goes for a special occassion or if one wants to impress a date. the decor is richly red, so my food pics will generally have a red hue. red is seen everywhere. not sure if the owners were trying to reflect passion or believe that red brings goodluck like the chinese. thestaffare very friendly and helpful - ✅ ambience was achieved - ✅ food was decent - ✅ the only thing that irritated me was the chilli crabs that was part of our seafood platter. the crabs were tiny and messy to eat. no finger bowl was offered. personally, i would forgo the crabs and replace it with either grilled scallops or oysters. the owners of this establishment are chilli fanatics, so if you are a capsaicin and grilled food addict like myself, then this might be one place worth visiting. side note, if you don't like latin-influenced flavours, beware. oh and bring a full wallet and your entertainment card.

great food and menu, good staff, poor ambiance. love the prawn entrees, amazing fusion of flavours. and the peach dessert is well worth the 20 minute wait (which is indicated on the menu.staffis generally quite attentive and friendly. unfortunately, when it was remodelled from the previous greek restaurant, they failed to insulate the ceiling, making it very loud inside. and the outside dining lacks any sort of vibe.
