having purchased another dinner voucher deal, this time it was time to try hoosegow charcoal restaurant 419 magill road, saint morris. when you don't know what to expect from a new restaurant, a voucher is a great way to try it. this was another unexpected great experience. our voucher deal consisted of themeatplank for two with char-grilled eye fillet, chilli chicken, chorizo, olives, vegetables and charred ciabatta (bread) along with a glass of wine each. what an amazing offer at $28.00 for the two of us!.......

i could not rave more about this fantastic restaurant! i was visiting family (i'm living and working in auckland), and had a look at zomato to see what was new and trending in terms of restaurants around adelaide. hoosegow charcoal restaurant was on that list, and i thought, "why not, lets give it a go".

i made a reservation online well in advance. when we arrived, our server showed us to our table and exclaimed that she was excited because i was their first international guest - i tried to say that i was originally from adelaide, but they wouldn't have a bar of it! they started us off with some table water, and a bowl of popcorn (free), which was delicious - my nan's friend wanted to tip it into her purse and take it all home with her (maybe they could sell it as a 'take home' option?). 

everything on the menu looked delicious, but themeatplate for two looked particularly good. $119, but worth every cent - it was enough for all three of us, and with more to take home! in fact, my nan and i had what was left for dinner the next day (they were happy to pack leftovers for us). we also had the confit garlic bulb, charred ciabatta, butter, pecorino as a starter, and a plate of squid.

the service was attentive, and the staff dolled on us all night, even down to showing us to the door when we were ready to leave, and opening it for us. it was a lovely experience and i definitely want to go back with friends the next time i am in adelaide.

also, as an aside - they're on dimmi and qantas restaurants, so make sure you book through them to get your points!

went here last week and fell in love with the ambience almost immediately. it feels like you’re taken away from adelaide and entered a south american villa with its bright red tones, decor, sounds and smells. the staff here are so delightful and ready to help in any way with smiles all round. we had 13 people altogether but we ordered individual meals. the menu offers a variety of appetisers, mains, steak from the chargrill or seafood. i had the spicy, sticky ribs with fat chips, chipotle, and pineapple salsa. i absolutely love every part of my dish! my partner had the rib eye steak and ate it so fast because it was grilled perfectly and he couldn’t resist. others ordered themeatplatter which came with a combination of the chargrilled meats and ribs. i will definitely be back to this restaurant and have recommended it to all my friends already.

great food and service, you get what you pay for. charcoal with delicious flavours, fresh and delicious. worth a visit! will definitely return. loved the vanilla panna cotta! we shared themeatplate, was more than enough for two.

very impressed by this place - a little on the expensive side but they were happy to use entertainment book vouchers which made it more affordable. the entrees were nice and the meats were very good quality. one of the bestmeatplaces at the moment! staff are great and the team all saying farewell at the door on the way out is a nice touch. will be back.

this restaurant surely did not disappoint - impeccable service, lovely decor and most importantly (in my opinion) delicious food.

we ordered themeatplatter for two and i have to say theirmeatplatter exceeded our expectations in terms of portion size and taste. their signature chicken was to die for! it was succulent, flavoursome, and had a great spicy kick to it. personally, i would return just to have a chicken dish on its own.

will be returning..once my wallet permits it!

just enjoyed a fabulous meal:-themeatplate to share was plentiful and great flavours. lovely wait staff thanks nico. make sure you have the hot apple pie shot before you leave!

the service was excellent. even though it was quite busy water was topped up and orders taken quickly. the confit garlic was a great way to start the meal. there is ameatfocus on the menu and the passion was demonstrated in our slow cooked beef and pork - yum!

went saturday night with friends for the first time and very impressed. staff were great, nothing was too much trouble. menu was impressive and food tasted great.meatmelted in your mouth and generous portions. one of the meals was not quite right and was replaced without question. will definitely go back.

my husband and i dined here on a voucher but i would happily invite friends to enjoy a meal here any time. themeatwas succulent, generous and well cooked. service was friendly and attentive. excellent value, beautiful food. highly recommended.

not sure if previous reviewers ate at the same restaurant. totally disappointed in meal. could have dined at a top restaurant for the same price. had the beef ribs. not so much charcoaled, but over cooked, tough, drymeatthat lacked any flavor what-so-ever! not to mention the poor service. when asked the waiter for a recommedation for main he told us he hadn't eaten any of the dishes we asked about??? finally when ordering a bottle of wine, the year of the wine written on the menu was not the wine on offer, they said it must be a typo. poor! would not bother going back and not would not recommend to others.

tasty chargrilling!. indoor and outdoor feel to this place, dark interior, metal and concrete theme front bar seems fun, dining area a bit more cavernous..

dishes we ordered:
eggplant rolls with salsa filling; prawns on spicy salsa; $99 sharedmeatplate (eye fillet steak, pork rib, chorizo sausage, chilli chicken and lamb backstrap, plus roasted potatoes (duck fat); pear tarte tatin.

tasty food for sure. spicy salsa was the same for both eggplant and prawn dishes so flavour was similar but still enjoyed.
staff are very keen to ensure you are happy with everything. at first i thought the $99 sharedmeatdish was a bit steep, but when you break it down......i guess the value is achieved.
extra sides ordered of broccoli and another lettuce/beetroot - both good @ $12 per side

go the pear tart for dessert......very good.
good wine modern up to date list...tscharke touriga complemented the dishes (spicy tempranillo style)

yep, will return and that is a good thing :):):)

love the meat!. if you are ameatlover this is the place for you! loved everything about it. the fat chips rock! the house special is the chicken a must try! highly recomend it.

mr t. to be honest a little bit disappointed. dined here on a friday night with some friends and found the service to be exceptional, although a little on the slow side particularly with drinks. were disappointed in the minimal variety of entrees available on the night in particular the lack of quail and the pumpkin bread that was just horrible. finally the mains arrived, 4 of the 6 ordered the rib eye steak and while they looked great were a little overcooked and lacked flavour. the final two ordered themeatplatter which had some nice flavours but the chicken was a little on the rare side. overall given we had spent close to $100 per head here for a meal we were all in agreeance that we were disappointed and probably wouldn't return.

awesome food!!. we had dinner here the other night and the food and service were excellent. entrees were delicious but small portions for the price you pay ($23 for 2 prawns??) but the mains were amazing.meatplatter has eye fillet, chorizo, lamb backstrap, huge pork belly ribs that fall apart they are that tender and big portions of chilli chicken all with duck fat potatoes. couldn't fault anything on the night definitely worth going if you havent yet.
