ritual. every saturday, freshly battered from the wonderfully soul crushing work week i escape to an as freshly battered chicken breast atop doughy biscuits and blanketed with a thicksausagegravy. a breakfast good enough to turn an agent of chaos into a creature of habit.

have been wanting to try this place for a while. they were pretty busy to my surprise but we were seated right away. our waitress was very friendly and welcoming. i had fried green tomatoes that were ok they were huge and fresh just a bit under seasoned. i ordered the pork chop which was very good a seasoned to perfection the grits and eggs were typical. my friend tried shrimp po boy n fries. again the po boy was good but the fries were house cut potatoes and toooo thick. not seasoned at all. lastly my guy ordered a restaurant famous dish that consists of two huge pancakes with 4sausagepatties between them topped with chicken tenders withsausagegravy on top. this plate is big enough for two n was verryyy good. everything was ok and service was great but probably won't visit anytime soon just because everything was just ok

absolutely outstanding!!! seriously. so glad i came here. i ordered the comfy chicken biscuit which is a very well seasoned fried chicken cutlet on a biscuit smothered withsausagegravy. my daughter and date shared the pancake stack, 3 pancakes that were the size of a hubcap......each they were soft and fluffy which is amazing considering their size and the eggs were some of the best i've ever had at a restaurant. you want a great breakfast.........then trust......you want home grown.

after glancing through the menu, i decided to order their famous comfy chicken biscuit because who doesn't love a good chicken biscuit smothered insausagegravy?! however, as i took my first bite, i was immediately disappointed in it for a number of reasons. the biscuit was cold, the fried chicken was mostly breading and thesausagegravy was way too salty! i mean, i could almost feel my blood pressure skyrocketing because it tasted as if an entire container of salt was dumped onto my plate. don't get me wrong though, the gravy was tasty and had all the right seasonings, but it could've definitely used 1/10th of the salt that was already in there. personally, this dish certainly didn't warrant the $10 price tag.

overall, i'm really disappointed in my experience at home grown and will probably not be returning any time soon in the near future. while i understand that it's an atlanta staple and is wildly popular, i refuse to buy into the hype just yet because of how upsetting both the food and service was on this particular visit. i may make another trip later on down the road, especially during lunch time, but i will say that atlanta has plenty of other restaurants worth dining at for brunch. here's to hoping that my next visit is 100% better than this one.

home grown? how good!. this place always seems booming and crowded on weekends. so we went on a monday when it was just busy and there was no wait.

servers were friendly and very earnest (i’ve had enough of the hipster-cool service who are more into being laid back than they are moving faster for good service.)

we had the comfy chicken biscuit which was a few pieces of fried chicken breast on an open-faced biscuit then covered insausagegravy. this is the kind of dish that i wouldn’t normally trust. my arteries just cringe at the thought of it. but the meal was delicious. we also had the breakfast tacos filled with chorizo and egg. that was also quite nice. a side of grits was really good.

home grown has a fun and friendly vibe. i would happily return for another great breakfast.

wow. this is the fifth time we've visited home grown and we continue to be blown away with each new dish. something so simple assausagegravy, fried chicken and a fluffy biscuit come together perectly as their "comfy chicken biscuit". the aforementioned ingredients at most restaurants often times have way too much sodium, but not in this case. just perfect.

thank you, kevin, for giving us a place we like to call "home" on sunday mornings!

when it arrived, i took a bite of biscuit, “blanketed in gravy”. it was good. really good. the gravy was thick, and chock full of sausage. then i tried the chicken – it was good, but i kept going back to the gravy. there is no other word for thissausagegravy than “otherworldly”. okay, i could use the words “awesome” or “amazing”. but “otherworldly” is what came to mind. and has stuck there for days. i cleaned the plate, sopping each bite of biscuit till it was dripping gravy as it headed toward my mouth. as i was leaving, i told lisa, one of the owners, my opinion of the gravy. she didn’t look at me like i was crazy. i imagine she gets that a lot .

reborn southerner. my wife daughter and i have gone twice to this new breakfast/brunch spot on memorial in the building once occupied by "mammy's kitchen" . the staff were pleasant and helpful, listened to our questions and helped my 4 year old feel at home. i'm not "southern by grace" but by choice, and my heart swells for a good biscuit andsausagegravy. i have never had a better version of the dish. just spicy enough with rich flavor; not lumpy or plain floury. the pancakes are good and the breakfast sandwiches are so full ya gotta use a knife and fork. after the fist visit i wondered if it was a fluke. not the case here. i got the exact same meal and added an over easy egg and got somesausageon the side. i was beyond full. and again, thesausagegravy was award winning. we'll be going back. the owner has been quoted as saying the place was going to be open for later lunch and have country fried steak, fried chicken, collards, mashed potatoes, but it's only open 'till 3pm. if they do go with a later lunch/supper menu my family and i will be there ready for the delicious home grown flavors we've so recently come to enjoy. looking forward to the country fried steak. hint hint.
