showed up for lunch close to closing time, thought about the hamburgers. then i inquired about the pot roast asking if it was possibly gluten free, with the advice of my excellent server ordered the pot roast, it was truly amazing and i will definitely make tracksbackthere as soon as possible.

'we have to eat at home grown' was what my fiancé said to me on our visit to atlanta. when we arrived there was no parking, which is always a good sign. the wait wasn't too bad but they were def. packed. we got the comfy chicken biscuit and the best french toast sandwich, both where amazing! we will bebackthe next time we visit atl.

home grown? how good!. this place always seems booming and crowded on weekends. so we went on a monday when it was just busy and there was no wait.

servers were friendly and very earnest (i’ve had enough of the hipster-cool service who are more into being laidbackthan they are moving faster for good service.)

we had the comfy chicken biscuit which was a few pieces of fried chicken breast on an open-faced biscuit then covered in sausage gravy. this is the kind of dish that i wouldn’t normally trust. my arteries just cringe at the thought of it. but the meal was delicious. we also had the breakfast tacos filled with chorizo and egg. that was also quite nice. a side of grits was really good.

home grown has a fun and friendly vibe. i would happily return for another great breakfast.

this place is still fantastic. excellent breakfast for $6 includes 2-3 eggs, delicious bacon, and the best cheese grits i've ever had. don't add any salt before you try them: they are already perfect. love the atmosphere and decor, with vintage dishes and napkin holders. friendly staff. would come here all the time if i lived closer.

great little place. have been wanting to try this place since i read barney's review. expected to find a packed house, but we got seated right away. my friend had a great looking stack of pancakes, while i went for a veggie plate with collards, lady peas and jalapeno slaw. everything was fresh and delicious. only complaint is that the greens had no meat seasoning to them, but i believe they have a big vegetarian customer base, so it's excusable. can't wait to comebackfor breakfast. this is a really neat place with a great vibe. very friendly service.

when it arrived, i took a bite of biscuit, “blanketed in gravy”. it was good. really good. the gravy was thick, and chock full of sausage. then i tried the chicken – it was good, but i kept goingbackto the gravy. there is no other word for this sausage gravy than “otherworldly”. okay, i could use the words “awesome” or “amazing”. but “otherworldly” is what came to mind. and has stuck there for days. i cleaned the plate, sopping each bite of biscuit till it was dripping gravy as it headed toward my mouth. as i was leaving, i told lisa, one of the owners, my opinion of the gravy. she didn’t look at me like i was crazy. i imagine she gets that a lot .

oh my.... very, very good fresh food. i had the b.e.s.t and it was quite pleasing. the fried green tomatoes were some of the best i've ever had (maybe 2nd to busy bee). not impressed with the cheese grits; two forkfuls and i left the bowl. i'm goingbackfor breakfast and lunch next week to try a few more things, namely the sloppy joe.

instant favorite. okay. i eat out a lot, no surprises there. very rarely on a first trip, especially for breakfast, do i walk away so totally loving a place.
stopped in this morning as they opened. very nice little place, plenty of parking, very friendly folks who know about their food and enjoy talking about it (i do not take the last part for granted).
i had to go with the most unusual thing on the menu, the b.e.s.t french toast (bacon, spinach, and tomato between 2 pieces of french toast... i went with the optional egg to see if this was as good as my server said).
it was as good as my server said. the french toast was perfect, fluffy and not heavy. the bacon was crisp, the tomato was juicy and sweet, the spinach perfectly fresh, and the egg(s) (they might have snuck an extra one in there... not sure) were cooked exactly as requested...nicely runny. they told me that some folks can pick this thing up, but a man's got to know his limitations and i tackled it with a knife and fork (adding a little syrup here and there). simply the best breakfast i've had out for a while. incredible mix of sharp fresh flavors with every component done perfectly. should also point out, by the way, that the side of cheese grits were also above average, nicely smooth and cheesy, not too runny, not too dry.
as i say in my title, this is an instant favorite and i'll bebacksoon. if i had any more room, i would have tried the special sweet grits pie... now doesn't that sound intriguing?!?

next day update: wentbackfor lunch and had the vegetarian peach sloppy joe that was oh-so-good, though seemed like a real sloppy joe and not sure what i was eating if not cow. to go with that, got an order of the fried green tomato's that were hot crispy and not greasy with a great horseradish sauce that gave them a nice little punch. end to end another fantastic meal at this great little place!

update 10/2010: have lost track of how many times i've been here, but had another great breakfast this morning. everyone here is super nice and the food continues to be straight forward, tasty, and reasonably priced.
