thisplacehas a great vibe and wonderful selection of beers, the problem is the staff is rude and not customer focused- i waited for 15 minutes to be served at the bar while personal favorites were served ahead of me.  beer was then warm to mildly cool temperature.  someone needs to do some serious customer service management and look at the cooling on the beers - at these prices its not a pleasant experience.

i'm pretty sure i just had the best burger i've ever eaten! visited with a friend for lunch and tried their 3d valley farm burger--unbelievable (even though it was delivered to the table close to well-done when i ordered medium). expensive at $15 (with no sides) but worth every penny. theplaceitself is small but pretty cool. wait staff will suggest beer to match the food. very nice outdoor patio area that they share with their sister place, gralehaus.

the building this restaurant is located in is incredibly eclectic as it is an old church. the brews are good but i would consider the food very overpriced and different. not aplaceto take a picky eater or someone on a budget. definitely a great spot to grab a drink and play catch up with an old friend.

disdain for its customers. thisplaceis consistent. the food is consistently good. the selection of beer is consistently good. the service is consistently unfriendly and rude. if you like paying premium prices for good food and beer while being treated as if the staff is doing you a favor, this is theplacefor you! it took me a while to realize that the terrible service was not simply a mistake - it appears management actually prefers to treat their guests with disdain. go figure.

thisplacewas recommended to me by a friend. he built it up i was expectinga ssupntastic meal. i wasn't disappointed at all. i travel around the world and hear claims that this or thatplacehas the best burgers. i can say thisplacehas one of the best burgers you will ever try. fresh cut fries and the very best beer selection in louisville hands down.

the beer selection is great. i enjoy trying different types of beers, and this is a fantasticplacefor it. the food is also great. my friend and i both had the brussel sprout salad, so delicious. however, theplaceis very small and gets pretty packed on a friday night. we sat in the loft and it was pretty tight and got very warm up there. our server was a little rude...after we ordered our beers he brought my friends thiers and i was told mine needed to "settle" before i could have it? after about five minutes i asked again and he seemed to blow me off. i had to get another waitress to grab the beer for me from the bar. she was just as confused as i was. he didn't get our checks right and split all of our orders three ways. all in all the beer and food is good, i like the atmosphere but they need to work on service.

my 4th and last attempt. i have been to holy grale 3 times before and had unpleasant experiences. my friend was in from out of town last night and her father suggested we grab some food there. they both seemed pretty excited to try it and i didn't want to be picky so i agreed to go.
it was the same old crap from every other time. extremely rude staff- at this point i think being a miserable asshole is a prerequisite for any position there.
even though they have a vast selection of beer, they never have anything that sounds any good to me. all i want most of the time is a dark, malty stout. the one beer that sounded the slightest bit appealing was unavailable. i ended up drinking this awful sour beer upon the suggestion of the angry waiter- he said it was the next closest beer to being "stout like."
i think that was the most disgusting beer i have ever had and have no clue why anyone would suggest that to someone looking for a stout.
of course they ran out of the components to make the one food menu item i ordered as well, but i have to say the food ended being delicious anyhow.
i wish this food could be served in a different establishment.
unfortunately the only time i will ever get to eat food from the holy grale is if someone brings it home because i am never stepping foot in thatplaceagain.

best burger in town....pretentious service. i have been to the holy grale 3 times over the past 8 weeks and have have enjoyed all 3 experiences. the holy grale has 3 areas for seating: inside bar area, upstairs loft, and outside beer garden. i have chosen to sit outside on each visit because of the weather and the fact that the inside is a bit dark and close. you order your food and beer at the bar, no server will meet you outside. you will take your beer outside and a server will deliver your food to you. you can swipe your credit card at the bar and simply add to it as you order beer. kind of an odd setup on how to get a drink or food, but once you figure it out, it works. i have ordered the burger with frites. my wife has always ordered the pork tacos with frites. the burger is simply fantastic. probably the best burger in town. it is a must try if you go to the holy grale. serving size is about right for this place. the beer speaks for itself. new arrivals and quality product will keep the holy grale going for a long time. the food is very good and the beer is exceptional. the service remains an issue. the team in the kitchen appears to be hard working and proud of their work. the servers that deliver your food are something else. the only word that i can find is pretentious. i have great respect for all forms of work, all work is honorable. asking a person that has just delivered your burger to you for a napkin should be an easy thing to address. it just seems that asking for anything out of what is provided is perceived incorrectly by the staff. beer and burgers is not a science project. patrons work hard for their money and when they dine and drink at your establishment, they should not be viewed as meaningless. fortunately, napkins were delivered, the food was good and the beer was exceptional. my one recommendation for the staff is to work on the attitude. we all have bad days but today's customer has so many opportunities for good beer and burgers throughout the city. take your customer seriously...no matter how good the beer and burgers, a maltreated customer will find anotherplaceto take their money.

jesse ordered the fritjes with poutine, a dish i will explain for our non-canadian versed readers. fritjes with poutine is fries with gravy and cheese curds. the thought of putting gravy on what if you read this blog seems to be my favorite food literally makes me gag a little but holy holy jesse loved it. instead of their typical gravy they used a short rib gravy the chef had created randomly that evening. so, because we didn't have the regular version, i can't speak for it, but if you happen to go on 'short rib gravy night' then apparently you're in for a treat. jesse, a sucker for anything involving quail eggs (that sounds so pretentious and annoying doesn't it?) ordered the scotch quail eggs. the hard boiled quail eggs wrapped in chorizo and breaded in panko were spicy and creamy but a little on the greasy side. the pretzels and beer cheese were excellent and undeniably a perfect accompaniment with beer - though i think we all knew that now didn't we? overall, it's a goodplaceto

my favorite new place. thisplaceis excellent! the atmosphere is wonderful and they decor adds a very nice touch. next the food and beer were just to die for. we had the mini slider burgers, egg roll and the brat on the pretzel bun, both were excellent in their own right. then the bartender at the time recommended a second beer for me off of my first pick, and boy did he hit it right on the nerve! i plan on visiting thisplacea lot!

thisplaceis all about the beer! the food is good, but second to the beer selection. all the food is "snack" like and street food inspired. all things you can eat with with your hands... true finger foods. the menu changes often and is very thought out and different from your normal pub grub. the beer selection is 20 taps and a select bottle menu. the tap lines are designated by styles. when something blows, it's immediately replaced by a beer of the same style but from a totally different brewery. the tap selection changes all the time here which keeps it fresh and interesting. the atmosphere of theplaceis beautiful! in the early 1900's the building was a unitarian church and the existing owners have done an amazing job of recreating the "holy" church-like feel. theplaceis small in size (seating for 50 or so), but our beertender informed us that they are in the process of expanding both inside and out. the service is not typical table service. instead you order at the bar. this may take some people out of their comfort zone, but we found it to be much nicer than waiting for a server to take our order. with that said, the menu was very informative with excellent descriptions of all the beers and food. if that's not enough, the beertenders are all "certified beer servers" and extremely knowledgeable about all the beers they serve. do yourself a favor and check thisplaceout. you won't regret it!
