cafe has a lovely ambience set in beautiful garden surrounds. general noise level low, so chatting to partner/friends is easy. coffee good, high prices for a mediocre meal, $25.00 for bowl of chips and 2 thin pieces of very ordinary tasting fish a big letdown . the $30.00 each person security booking fee for internal seating also a put off.

loved the vibe here and was slightly reminiscent of grounds of alexandria. the space is large and airy, plenty of indoor space as well as outdoor overlooking a large enclosed garden perfect for kids to roam around in whilst still being able to watch over them. the menu has plenty of food and drink options for everybody. had the duck salad which was a generous portion full of flavor, the tea smoked chicken was an equally good choice with the tea smoked flavor really shining through. would definitly come back. perfect for large groups.

may 2015: the new management have transformed this place. the location was always beautiful, now the decor is cool and offerings are far more interesting.

march 2016: hubris. i've been here many times and things have worsened with each visit. the location and decor are great, the food and service are not.

understaffing means glacially slow service: 30min for coffee and 40 mins for breakfast for 2. the eggs were overcooked and by the time they arrived, they were stone cold. i didn't fancy waiting longer for a replacement. i can't see myself going back to try them again anytime soon. bummer.

i booked a table for a relaxing pre-birthday lunch. we had a lovely time as did the kids - who roamed free around the grounds for most of the time. ordering at the counter works really well for groups and adds an extra level of relaxation.

the kids menu was great and imaginative - although most defaulted to fish and chips this came in a special lunch box with a nudie juice and apple.

the cocktail jugs are definite winners as we move into summer. i had many contented friends and i thoroughly enjoyed my lamb rogan josh roti stack. i think the salmon taco's are next on my hit list.

dessert was next level - will definitely be back for the pavlova!

minor complaints - not enough duck in the duck salad, dirty water cups, a little difficult to get through on the phone to book/vary booking details.

i think this will become a local favourite ☀️😋👌

we visited the cafe last monday for lunch. lovely location & decor. unfortunately, both our meals were less than enjoyable & over priced. my partners burger patty was thick & stodgy & his chips were served in a dirty reused basket with a piece of paper under the chips. the sauce bottle had a soggy piece of cling wrap around the nozzle which was less than acceptable. my duck salad was overly full of bitter lettuce with tiny chopped pieces of duck which i had to search for under the masses of lettuce. the dressing was underwhelming & didnt enhance the salad nor did the pear slices soaked jn lemon juice. there were some hazelnuts added also. an expensive dish which didnt satisfy.
we didnt complain as this would have further spoilt our meal. we simply left & wont return.

great place with an excellent menu that is reasonably priced and with an awesome atmosphere.

after one visit hazelhurst is now my go to place for a lazy weekend breakfast in gymea - it's puts everything else nearby to shame.

an imaginative and varied menu with plenty of gluten free options, good coffee, a funky interior and reasonable prices - you can't go wrong.

can't wait to visit for lunch & a cheeky weekend arvo sesh! ;)

in the whimsical garden themed atmosphere, beholds hazelhurst cafe where i indulged a delicious duck salad filled with an array of fruits and vegetables, plus delicious hazelnuts. being foreign of the duck flavour, i was both surprised and drawn back. it's was flavoursome but rather dry and a little on the crunch side. my acquaintance ordered the ploughsman roll which consisted of an overflow of pickle flavour and a chunky piece of beetroot...just one piece. nether the less, the rest of the roll can't be critiqued and the service was great!

love the newly refurbished cafe & menu. only criticism last week was that the kids' breakfast wasn't as amazing as ours. the sourdough was thick & hard to eat and none of the three kids (10,11,12 years) could eat the scrambled eggs. we would come back and try again through as coffee & avocado smash were wonderful

the atmosphere and outdoor area are lovely. the food is pretty good but the service is disorganised. i'm a regular but perhaps i'm too tolerant. scones and coffee can be a 30min wait. coffee to take away can be a 30 min wait. really disappointing to see my scones sitting on a bench going stale on a hot day while the staff stand around talking about the weekend.

breakfast is a no go. always at least 1 hour for food. wish we could buy drinks in the evening too but they close too early. so much potential....😞

we had lunch at the cafe today. we both wanted the duck salad but unfortunately they had run out of it. i got a coleslaw and prawn salad. it was dry and so tasteless and the prawns were cut in half. my husband had salmon tacos. the taco shells were so chewy he gave up trying to eat them and ate the salad. both meals were very poor value for money.

great atmosphere and plenty of parking available! staff is friendly and helpful. we got the breakfast bruschetta and the coconut ricotta pancakes. both were quite satisfying 👌🏻 and good value. their lunch menu looks very innovative, can't wait to come back to try it!

the place is beautiful, for that they get a 2. however the service is outrageous. for a coffee and a cake priced at $14 we had to wait 1hr. the cake was tasteless and the coffee cold.

this cafe is light & airy and offers something for everyone. from brunch dates amongst friends or couples; also great for kids to roam & have a picnic in the grounds with their takeaway menu; older people lunching & wining leisurely; business people having breakfast meetings or functions. the food is tasty, modern & beautifully presented, fittingly so given that it is by the art gallery. lunch menu is a fusion of cultures with their version of vietnamese pork roll being made on wholemeal bread stuffed with delicious pulled pork, pate & crispy veg. other standouts are their signature duck salad & naked sushi. there are plenty to drink in the way of wines & cocktail jugs & plenty of cakes & scones for morning or afternoon tea. service is friendly but can be a little slow, but you never seem to be in a rush at this place anyway & can easily linger from lunch to afternoon tea.

for a quick breakfast in an otherwise busy morning, i dropped by hazelhurst café, located within the regional gallery and arts centre on the kingsway. i remember being very impressed by this café when i came for a family event some ten years ago, so i was very curious to see how i would find it today.
