the food was great it was the waiter i gave him $100.25 my food was $25.08 he bought me back $50.00 hr decided to top himself $25.00 and all i had was 2 blue motorcycles and clam chowder i tip jim $10.00 i go here all thetimeand yo be honest he was the worst waiter i ever had.i noticed my change when he bought it back then gonna say i tried it i have two witnesses pulled out a lot of money from his left pocket and gave me the rest of my money my feeling was so hurt that he would try and steal my money. i'm writing this review yo tell you'll yo be careful oh and ps mind you i said i gave him $100.25 and my good was 25.08 he still kept change smh he should be fired i can imagine how many people he's done this to.😡😡😡

so glad we decided to come here!  the atmosphere was great, excellent service, and delicious food.  awesome beer selection.. i could go on.  we felt really comfortable, and the menu wasn't so huge that we were overwhelmed.  we had the oyster rockefeller (amazing but a small portion for the price), she-crab soup (so smooth and creamy), the crab legs and shrimp and the flounder sandwich.  the portions for the entrees were ample, and the flavor on the shrimp was crazy good.  crab legs were awesome.  highly recommend.  nexttimei'm trying the oysters!!!!!!!!!!

last saturday i had a taste for some raw oysters, so i went online to find the nearest place that did the raw oysters sort of thing. harpoon larry’s was that kind of place. the newly built one, while further away than the old place, was still the closest of the 6 or 7 oyster bars near me. i remember harpoon larry’s from the old location; while the food was good, the restaurant itself was always too crowded, and it was hard to find parking. however, you would always be satisfied when your food arrived. last saturday was no different. lunchtimeis the besttimeto go if you’re trying to avoid the crowds, plus you’ll find ample parking during the lunch hours. i started out with a half a dozen raw oysters (they have several types of oysters, and they vary in size and flavor), and i finished with a nice-sized fried flounder fish sandwich. both were delicious. since i sat at the bar, i had a clear view of the football game and the lovely, world-class oyster shucker in action.

still talking about it. i've read some of the reviews and am in awe! the restaurant my family and i attended was awesome. from thetimewe walked in and saw food come to our table was 10 minutes. the she-crab soup was over-the-top good, so was the shrimp, gumbo, poboys and king crab.

we were in town for a sad occasion hoping to never come to newport news again, but after eating here and having such a great time, we now have something to look forward when we come to bush gardens. kentucky loves hl's!!

keep away. the fried oyster's were watery and tasted dirty. service was terrible except when it wastimeto pay. not good. better options out there

downhill sliding at a more rapid pace than before. went on a thursday for the 1 lb shrimp special. she-crab was cold and real thick w/ a small handful of canned crab dumped in the middle of the bowl. don't get it. shrimp were ok, and getting more expensive. waitress was attentive and good. am guessing that the day manager (he) fancied himself as some kind of dj/music connoisseur. the real loud music was certainly unrecognizable, but he didn't care what the customers thought. the bar customers and barmaid even adversely commented, but to no avail. nexttimewe'll pass in favor of others.

i'd been wanting to try this place for a while and i finally had the opportunity on st. patrick's day so it seemed like a perfecttimeto hit it up. i got there after work at about 4:45 pm on a monday so as you'd expect it wasn't very crowded. i grabbed a spot at the bar. the bar servers were very polite and provided good service. i was impressed with their beer selection. i had the mahi mahi fish tacos and thought they were very tasty. i also enjoyed the oyster monday special and was impressed with the quality of their oysters. it was getting pretty crowded at the bar by thetimei finished. i can see how some other reviewers had a bad experience because i've heard from friends that this place gets very crowded especially on weekends and that it is hard to find a parking spot.

maybe it was thetimeof day that i was there, but i had a very enjoyable meal and thought the service and food were excellent. i will be going back based on my experience and taking my wife next time.

well said tony-miller...ate there with my family and had the same exact experience! i thought i was imaging things until i read your review. and just like you this is the firsttimei've ever written a review about any restaurant. i'm also military and have traveled a lot! and never in my life have i experience such poor service! i will never recommended this place to anyone!!!

don't recommend. ok food, terrible service and rude hostess. i used to frequent this restaurant when it was located in hampton. amazing that when their space was more limited they managed their seating much better. my husband and i went to the new location and was told that they could not give us an idea of how long the wait would be for a table. give me a break....all restaurants have a way of managing an approximate wait time. i was not asking for an exact time, only a range so that we could make a decision about where to have dinner. harpoon larry's has been doing this long enough to have the logistics of table waittimefigured out. the hostess was very rude! will not go back!

a great dive. i've been eating at harpoon larry's for over 9 years now. the one thing i can say is that it's consistent. if you like a neighborhood bar with a comfy feel, this is your place. they have specials on certain nights, like .50 oysters on mondays and on thursdays you can get a pound of their awesome large, plump steamed shrimp for $9.96. if you're looking for a variety of seafood in one entree, i highly recommend their killer combo. it is a steamed combination of a crab leg cluster, shrimp, clams, oysters, mussels and craw-fish. it is the perfect size portion of each. their salads are well made and fresh. this is not a 5 star restaurant, but if you're looking for a great place to pass sometimewith friends drinking beer and eating some steamed seafood, you'll love it. the atmosphere is very casual.

killer seafood. best seafood in a local dive atmosphere. great beer selection, servers and bartenders. they really take care of me everytimei am in town from pittsburgh visiting. they'll even change the tv channel when the penguins are
on during the playoffs.
