you can try dozens of types of oysters, not just preparation styles, but different locations.  the pocahontasoystersare one of the best!  i wasn't crazy about their oyster shooter, but i got it in beer instead of liquor.  the she crab soup is incredible and theoystersrockefeller is creamy and flavorful.  great beer selection.

last saturday i had a taste for some raw oysters, so i went online to find the nearest place that did the rawoysterssort of thing. harpoon larry’s was that kind of place. the newly built one, while further away than the old place, was still the closest of the 6 or 7 oyster bars near me. i remember harpoon larry’s from the old location; while the food was good, the restaurant itself was always too crowded, and it was hard to find parking. however, you would always be satisfied when your food arrived. last saturday was no different. lunch time is the best time to go if you’re trying to avoid the crowds, plus you’ll find ample parking during the lunch hours. i started out with a half a dozen rawoysters(they have several types of oysters, and they vary in size and flavor), and i finished with a nice-sized fried flounder fish sandwich. both were delicious. since i sat at the bar, i had a clear view of the football game and the lovely, world-class oyster shucker in action.

the new location is a lot better than the old location, however they don't have enough parking and most of their staff take up the available spots. was told just a little wait, which turned out to be 1 hour. food was pretty good but our waitress was slow and didn't really check on us other than to take our order and serve us. my friedoysterswere pretty good though. most of the staff were out back hanging out and smoking, clearly visible by any patrons in the parking lot, they even have a circle of chairs setup so you can tell this is a regular thing which probably explains the missing staff and slow service. didn't care much for their coleslaw as it had no flavor and was really bland.

great oysters. i went here one afternoon for lunch to try out their oysters. i really enjoyed my experience here. the restaurant felt pretty cozy and there were plenty of locals. theoysterswere fresh from the bay and delicious. they also had some tasty beers on tap which was surprising.

friday night parking was terrible. people were parking in the grass. music was way to loud. servers were wonderful but very disorganized/ chaotic. first thing to arrive at table was a ramekin of red potatoes. very good. ate them before appetizer and dinner arrived. never did bring my salad. ordered mussels in cilantro jalapeno broth. excellent.oysterswere overbreaded and over cooked. hope they make through growing pains and get it together soon.

a great dive. i've been eating at harpoon larry's for over 9 years now. the one thing i can say is that it's consistent. if you like a neighborhood bar with a comfy feel, this is your place. they have specials on certain nights, like .50oysterson mondays and on thursdays you can get a pound of their awesome large, plump steamed shrimp for $9.96. if you're looking for a variety of seafood in one entree, i highly recommend their killer combo. it is a steamed combination of a crab leg cluster, shrimp, clams, oysters, mussels and craw-fish. it is the perfect size portion of each. their salads are well made and fresh. this is not a 5 star restaurant, but if you're looking for a great place to pass some time with friends drinking beer and eating some steamed seafood, you'll love it. the atmosphere is very casual.

disappointed. given the huge crowd here on a wednesday night, a negative review won't make much difference but we were deeply disappointed in, at least, the crab cakes. theoysterson the half shell were perfectly acceptable (though we decided we preferred the much stronger gulf coastoysterswe're familiar with). but the crab cakes, which both my husband and i had, were bland and had much too much filler in them. if this is the best seafood in hampton (a beach city for goodness sake), that's truly sad.
