the godfather of jewish style delis. this is the guy. nobody knows this business better than harold. he's a pastrami genius. everyone says share...no! take home your uneaten half for the next day's lunch.

terrific pastrami and corned beef. everything here that's served is massive. not cheap..be prepared to pay, but you will get what you pay for.

this is harold's only location (edison)..he has nothing to do with the lyndhurst operation. he sold that years ago.

have to see it to believe it. portions are enormous. sandwiches will easily satisfy 4 people. potato pancakes are great. everything is made in kitchen visible from dining area. this is not the place for a light snack!! you'll most probably leave with a doggy bag no matter how much you eat.

they know how to do meat right here. the pastrami is my absolute favorite. it's juicy with the best flavor i've ever had, anywhere. i usually get a pastrami and a corned beef and bring the leftovers home for sandwiches the next day. they have great pickles on the salad bar. i will say that i don't like their knishes.. they're so large that you loose the nice chewy soft covering and wind up with more of a mashed potato by the time you reach the center. their matzo ball soup is delicious. the cakes and rugelach are to die for. the service is friendly and they always remember you.

harold's was a dining experience. the smallest portions, which they list as "large" feeds 1-3 persons. we were a group but no one else wanted a pastrami rueben, which i was craving. it was absolutely delicious. mounds of tender pastrami, swiss cheese and sauerkraut. russian dressing was served on the side. our waiter, lee, was great! he told us how to heat up our leftovers - steam in a steamer. i had leftovers tonight and have enough for two more meals - that's four meals. it's expensive. cost was $47. i would highly recommend for an out of the ordinary dining experience. there was a wait but the line moved quickly. worth the wait. they have a very large pickle bar too.

pastrami was fantastic. roast beef was good although not very flavorful but cooked well. potato pancake was also tasty. the place was slammed but the wait was barely 15 minutes.

great deli, but not for eating solo, and pushing it for a duce. at first glance, prices seem high, but the servings are appropriate to the price. would be an excellent choice for a group of 4 or more where you can share.

they go through a ton of deli, so it's always fresh. what else can you say about a deli? no creative chef here, just great jewish style food with huge portions made to share. i stop every time i'm in the area.

if you come for nothing more than a huge slice of cake, it's worth it. the portions are huge, and are all made (and priced) for 2-5 people, so be prepared to split something or go home with 8lbs of meat and bread later. but if you truly love jewish food (and pickle bars!) it's definitely a great stop.

the real big breakfast. restaurants, diners, and fast food establishments should be thankful there is only one store and in a somewhat remote part of new jersey. every plate and entrée is beyond huge! each serves at 3 people. they layout the food red carpet for you. delicious and tasty. friendly and courteous staff. 4 people can eat one of their pizza size pancakes. the omelets are huge beyond belief! i had lunch here before( turkey sandwich), it came with the works; salads, pickles, condiments and a loaf of rye bread! the menu says feeds 2-3 people, an understatement! i've never seen anyone finish the meals. a doggy shopping bag will be brought home! the owner is warm and friendly and enjoys engaging the parents. make this place number 1 on your bucket list. the deli is also attached to the edison hotel. so if you live a distance away, drive up or down and get a room and treat your family and friends to a dining experience!

owner is terrible!. i have gone to harold's many times and always enjoyed the sandwiches. today i decided to order the chocolate rugelach cheesecake figuring it would be cheesecake with chocolate rugelach. i was disappointed to get a terrible tasting plain cheesecake with a layer of chocolate and some raisin rugelach on top and cooked into the middle. i told the woman at the front about this and she seemed less than interested, but asked if i wanted to speak to the owner. i told harold jaffe that i found the name "chocolate rugelach cheesecake" a bit misleading and suggested making this more obvious on the menu. he could not have been more rude! he said he has made this cake for 15 years and would not consider changing the name as everyone knows it is actually chocolate and rugelach. he snapped that i could have come to the front to see what the cake looked like (who would think to do this at a restaurant, and the one at the front was whole so i would not have been able to see the inside or what type of rugelach was used anyway). i tried to explain this but he yelled and said to get out! i have always eaten at harold's whenever in the area, but after being treated so poorly today i will definitely not be going back.

prison mess hall, rude people. if you enjoy dining in a prison mess hall, you'll love it there. yes, don't get me wrong the food is great and the portions are generous and there is a pickle bar. although from the moment you walk in till the moment your done eating, there are constantly waiters and other staff posted up all over the restaurant constantly starring at you and everyone else every other second making sure that no one dares to try and take an extra pickle or a little coleslaw home, god forbid. it was almost creepy, it made me feel as though i was in a prison mess hall constantly being watched by guards. also i found the staff extremely rude and stuck up, i did not appreciate it at all especially after being nothing but respectful. i will never return to harold's and will ensure no one i know goes their either. terrible experience. there's nothing i hate more in this world than rude people.

amazing portions and food!. i was visiting family in new jersey and stopped by this place with a group of 7 people. we only had to order two sandwiches to feed all of us! the food was absolutely fantastic, the pickles were amazing, and the dessert was also exceptional! i will definitely be making a return visit if i find myself in new jersey again.

harold’s is the quintessential “new york deli”. everything is huge “everything”. the entire menu is for sharing, hence the $50 and up prices for entrees. if you can finish anything on your own you are a man a

sometimes it's important to go back to your roots, to where it all began...even if it's on steroids and turned up to 12. my first exposure to food as culture was as a child, growing up in a jewish family in new york. all we did was eat. birth, death, life cycle events, wednesday night all included eating a bevy of foods. harold's is a new york deli (in new jersey) that brings me right back to childhood.  they have the world's only known pickle bar, and dr. brown's sodas are featured prominently. the stars of the show are most definitely the sandwiches. before i go on, there's something you must know about harold's. the portions are ludicrous. a regular size sandwich is really meant to feed two or three people depending on appetites. if you're a little crazy, a sandwich can be finished by a single person. the best option is the pure jewish original, the pastrami on rye. mustard, never mayo. the pastrami is right between fatty and lean, and smoked post brine to perfection. an egg cream (
