the owner can be rather short tempered when stressed-which is often! we were very unhappy with a breadedchickendish but the owner did not offer to change it etc. overall the food is generally good. the prawn dish has shrunk by half since we started going there but the price has gone up.

this food was amazing. so far my best experience in victoria for chinese food. sweet and sourchickenballs, shrimp chow main, crispy ginger beef and spring rolls. we ordered for take out well worth every penny. thank you for a great dinner.

tough reviewers, but good food!. i usually check reviews before going to a restaurant to see what i can expect, and i can tell you that thanks to the poor reviews on here, i was pleasantly surprised.

i ordered (for take out) thechickenchow mein, sweet and sour pork, breaded almond chicken, veggie chop suey and spring rolls. i loved the chow mein - the most flavourful i've ever tasted, and the portion was awesome. the pork was tender and the sauce excellent, but the almondchickenwas the only item i wouldn't order again. it needs a side sauce! the waitress said they didn't have one for it, which is a shame because without it, it's simply deep friedchickenwith no flavour.

maybe i have a naive palate, or previous reviewers have sky-high standards, but i think that if you are looking for some good chinese take-out, this is a fine place to choose.

tl;dr if you like fairway chinese, you'll like this place!

disappointed. seeing this place so highly ranked makes me wonder where people have been eating. we ate here and it was a disappointment. it was more expensive than it should have been, perhaps if it was cheaper and had it tasted better we would have been less disappointed.
i found that the salt and pepper squid was soggy and had corn starch aftertaste. the kung paochickenwas decent. the noodle dish(shanghai noodles) was plain and lacking in flavour. there were insufficient spices on the food. i am from vancouver and am used to flavorful chinese food with interesting textures. it was not as spicy as we could have hoped for.
will not go back here, despite knowing friends who go here once a week. not worth the price either.
edit:
also, i do not work for the competition, as a previous review mentioned. i just have a different opinion, so there is no need to get people's backs up.

doesn't live up to the reviews for us- salt and pepper squid breading left a mushy cornstarch aftertaste, ginger beef was okay (could be more gingery- they should use real ginger in addition to powdered). the shanghai noodle sauce was not spicy as described (i wanted a singapore fun/udon noodle dish so this came close) so we added more chili garlic paste at home and it was okay. kung powchickenwas good. not sure why this place has such a high rating- will go to wing's next time because their food is better and hella cheaper.

a really busy place. the green beans (not listed on the menu) were incredible. also really enjoyed the crispy honger friedchickenand mandarin prawns. lots of food. small bowl of soup easily provided 6 bowlfuls. will definitely be back.

best chinese in victoria so far. in fact, it might even be the best chinese i've had in vancouver too. fantastic food. my personal favourites are the sweet and sour pork (the texture and crispiness of the pork is unreal), the spicy beans, and thechickenballs, which are by far the best i've ever had.

this is exactly what a small, family run restaurant should be. good, personal service with awesome food and an obvious desire to keep you as a customer.

the gingerchickenhad a great sauce that was not overly gooey or sweet, just right. the sweet and sour pork was tender and had just the right balance of sweet and vinegar without the use of too much thickening corn starch.
