average. good burger, very averagefriesand poor service. this is a bar. if you're looking for a crappy little bar that servers a descent burger, it's your spot. if you just want a good burger, go around the corner. make sure you have all your shots before going in there however. i don't think any health inspectors have ever been to fred's.

i'm new to the area, but after talking with some locals in-the-know, i've come to learn you can get more than burgers or drinks here if you know what i mean. that explains much now looking back on my experience there. people trafficking back and forth, some looking nervous etc.

you simply have to eat here is you want a burger. the diablo is the one to order...sit at the bar and watch them cook...this is texas and bless you fred's ( who is the owners dog name) for....love taking people there and love going...try to go once a quarter...41/2 buns on the burger scale....

a devil of a burger. been here before and was not thinking it was great....went back after it won an award for best burger....had a burger taste off with my wife and myself....the diablo was great....hot and spicy with a true mix of peppers that just did not involve throwing jalapenos on the meat....it is fun to watch them cook and the place has a texas party atmosphere...it was not the winner....beat out by m & o ....the burger was great andfriesgood and the service was very texan....damn but i am proud to be a citizen of this great state....you will like the place but be prepared to wait....4 3/4 of 5

mixed feelings...see below. ok maybe it was my expectations...i had heard it was being filmed for a segment on ddd on the food channel...the burgers were hand formed and cooked to order and they were pure fat free burgers...they just were not burgers...more steak burgers...i liked them and thefrieswere good...the service was great and fun...the price...was high...ready for the hollywood set maybe...i certainly will go a again and you should go...just not the best in town.

if you're a d-bag tcu rich kid that doesn't know any better, you might like this place. but if you grew up with your dad cooking great burgers in the back yard and you know the value of a dollar, prepare to be disappointed. burgers are decent but not worth 8-10 dollars.friesare par, so what's the big fuss about. you pay for the atmosphere which you can get cheaper elsewhere. i was really looking forward to going here needless to say i won't be back

in my opinion, the best burger west of dallas!  i just love big hamburgers and they are definitely a fred tradition, the ratio of meat to bun becomes extraordinary when it reaches 3/4 pound!  medium seems to be the proper temperature, just slightly juicy... but not so much as to soak the bun into a non-edible mess.  get anything you want on them including peeners if you so desire a little heat.

i think they have other things on the menu, but must admit... i have never really looked!  the burgers are my reason to go to fred's texas cafe.  i believe that is why guy's triple d was there a few years ago, too.

they redid the outside patio not long ago and it makes it plenty desirable to eat out there now, however, we stayed inside with the small diner appeal.  the area outside used to be dirt floor and a wood fence, now it is truly a comfortable patio and even includes a stage.  not sure what or when the shows are scheduled, but it could make for an enjoyable weekend evening.

back to the food... did i mention they're the best burgers in fort worth?  thefriesare very good as well, appear to be hand cut from real potatoes, maybe a little greasy... but what'd you go for in the first place!?!

great cfs and great service!. stopped by fred's today to grab a bite with the family while touring the museums for spring break. the service was fast and friendly. my wife and i ordered cfs; our chicken fried steaks were fork tender and delicious. my daughter ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which she declared was "yummy!". the home-stylefrieswere a perfect side to these dishes. couldn't ask for better diner-style food in fort worth. we will be back. :-d

change of heart. husband and i have been big fans of fred's until recently, when our bill made us have a change of heart. their prices have gone up noticably. after several beers and 2 burgers, our bill after tax and tip was about $60! we love fred's burgers but if they're going to start charging $12 for a burger, they're putting themselves in a different burger playing field and falling miserably behind. if i'm going to pay that much for a burger, i'd rather go to dutch's. or even the new rodeo goat. we have no less love for fred's than we did before but their prices have ended the honeymoon phase. time to find a new favorite.

laid back atmosphere, great burger. fred's is pretty much a country-western style dive bar/restaraunt. i've been twice and the burger was great both times. thefrieswere too limp the first time i went but the second time they were nice and crispy. good, ice cold bud light on tap. this isn't a place to go for wine or a wide beer selection. the inside is cramped but tolerable and the outside is nice. they have big fans blowing in the summer to keep you cool and live music playing both times i've been. it's a good place for laid back music, laid back atmosphere, ice cold beer and one of the best burgers you'll find. i highly recommend fred's if you're the laid back, down to earth type. i love it, just wish i lived closer. this is not a place for the high maintenance type though. i want a fred's burger right now!

one of the best burgers i've had. party of two went to fred's for the first time on a saturday afternoon around 3 pm. found parking less than a block away after driving around the block a couple of times. got right in to the dining room. got a seat at a booth. it was kind of like orgnaized chaos, but it didn't bother us. we got served in a reasonable amount of time, and the food didn't take too long to come out. the staff was very welcoming. we orders a fred's burger with cheese andfriesto share. the burger was extremely juicy and flavorful. nothing gourmet, but wonderful. thefrieswere good old fashioned fries, withe the right amount of seasoning and crunch. splitting the meal worked out great, because it was just the right amount. we would definitely go back.

so-so burgers. my hubby and i ate here the other evening. we ate in the covered "overflow" seating which wasn't too bad. we each ordered a burger- me, the swiss mushroom, he the regular "fredburger". mine was okay, but the bun literally broke in half after a few bites. the meat wasn't really that flavorful at all. the prices were also quite high for the quality. thefrieswere good, but not that good. long story short, we probably won't be back.

nothing to rave about.. well, there is obviously a lot of buzz about this place. being a non-drinker these days, my wife and i decided to pick up a cheeseburger, take it home, and see if it lived up to the hype.

the burgers were substantial (1/2 lb) and pretty good. the meat did not seem very juicy or flavorful though. i am still looking for a killer burger in fort worth. my wife put it best: "put a dutch's burger on a fred's bun and you'll have an excellent burger." that is to say: the burgers at dutch's have a better flavor. thefrieswere greasy and good, but overall i was underwhelmed. sad me :(

fantastic!. the burgerman says this is still one of the very best burgers you will find in dfw! i'm amazed every time i go. the burgers are big, and cooked to perfection. the flavor is great and it ranks as one of the very top burger places i've ever been to. fried pickles orfriesare great too! fred's is probably my favorite place to go to in fort worth, just for the music, food, and fun!

rudist server ever!!!!. absolutely the rudist and most unpleasant dinner service i have ever experienced. one thing we know as texans, we like our tea, and it is a must have for all restaurants . at fred's, 30 minutes before dinner service was closed, the wait staff decides to dump the tea out and not make any more. when we asked why?.... the waitress decided to make it personal. she was extremely ugly...to the point of walking away and calling a guest at my table a b----. as a side note, do not ask for extra crispyfriesor they will be burnt. one guest at our table did this and all thefriesserved to our table were burnt. the "gotta have it" ribeye with chipolte brown butter was just an average cut of meat and the butter sauce tasted like it was scraped off the bottom of a pan. needless to say, management stepped in and we did not pay for our dining experience...sorry fred, you will never get another penny from me. my vote is to kick fred's cafe to the curb!!!

far from the best burger in fort worth let alone texas! over rated, over priced, marginal service. reading the reviews on urbanspoon i would have to say fred's is undisputedly one of the most controversial restaurants in fort worth. you either love it or you hate it. in my case it was the later (hate). having been to fred's about a year ago on a friday night for some drinks i ordered the loadedfrieswhich were good for a late night bite. i had heard that this was on food network's ddd and thought i would try the diablo burger. as a arrived i was lucky enough to find a spot in the front but parking is definitely an issue here. i arrived right before noon and it was already packed inside. the interior is a small sardine can and holds about 15 tables along with bar seating. on this particular day there was only 2 servers for the 15 tables and they were less than attentive or helpful. they also have a nice patio area that is ideal for cooler weather, but on this day temps were in the mid 90's. i ordered 2 diablo burgers and a beer. the order came in out in what seemed to be an eternity probably in actuality 30-40 minutes but that is extreme for a burger and fries. only just before the burger came out did our server speak to us to let us know that the burger was on its way. once the burger arrived the diablo burger was less than spectacular. i can handle hot but in this case the chipotle peppers completely overwhelmed the burger with spiciness and took away from the natural flavors of the hamburger meat. the burger was decent in size maybe 1/3 lb and includedfriesbut not worthy of a $11.25 price tag. when i was ready for a second beer i had to literally flag our server down to get one and when i did it didn't come right away.

simply stated fred's is a good place to grab a friday or saturday night beer with average bar food, but is not a good restaurant, with a top notch burger. fred's is far from the best burger in fort worth let alone texas!
