i'm picky as hell when it comes to my burgers and this place is awesome

what a shame...great outside dining environment and the burgers looked very good but service and attitude was awful! live music should and could have been a nice touch but the volume made it nearly impossible to speak without yelling. they have a list of beers they have available but 2 of the 5 listed they were out of but they could not trouble to update the chalk board list. $13 for nachos we got for the table like for an appetizer in texas that did not come with any salsa or tomatoes. we asked for salsa and they brought a 2 ounce plastic cup half filled that they ended up charging a $1 for. the waitresses would rarely come by and after dropping off the nachos, never came back to take our order. we finally had to go to the bar to get some to cash us out when we finally had enough.

a friend and i tried fred's texas cafe because i saw it on the show seiner driverins and dives. the waitstaff was very poor and the food was tasteless however invited the show to visit must have not eaten there . we won't be back.

airline pilot. i just wanted to say good things about the gourmet burrito. i love the food and enjoy every visit. the folks that run the shop are great and so is the food. if you have the need for a great burrito go and enjoy the better tastes of life.

average. good burger, very average fries and poor service. this is a bar. if you're looking for a crappy little bar that servers a descent burger, it's your spot. if you just want a good burger, go around the corner. make sure you have all your shots before going in there however. i don't think any health inspectors have ever been to fred's.

i'm new to the area, but after talking with some locals in-the-know, i've come to learn you can get more than burgers or drinks here if you know what i mean. that explains much now looking back on my experience there. people trafficking back and forth, some looking nervous etc.

in response to the previous fred's review. sounds like this person should just have gone to in-n-out. must have been awful being able to sip on a beer and listen to music while you waited for your food. if you wanted drinks quicker, maybe you should have waddled up to the bar in the middle of the patio for your drinks. as for the food, it is very good. yes, overpriced, but you are also paying for the atmosphere and the beer is cheap. bacon cheese fries: great. tacos: great. burgers: great, get the diablo. anyways i am glad that this person didn't like it because freds doesn't need patrons like you anyways, they are crowded enough with people who can appreciate a great place. take some sunflower seeds with you next time to get you through that painstaking wait. a+ for freds.

overhyped. every time i have gone here the burgers are just ok with nothing special about them, especially for the price. it is too crowded and too loud. i'd much rather go somewhere else for an average burger and pay much less. on the bright side it seems clean and if you like loud packed places it should be good for you.

this place is amazing!!! the burgers are cooked to perfection while your order is very rarely incorrect. i say best burger in fort worth.

you simply have to eat here is you want a burger. the diablo is the one to order...sit at the bar and watch them cook...this is texas and bless you fred's ( who is the owners dog name) for....love taking people there and love going...try to go once a quarter...41/2 buns on the burger scale....

a devil of a burger. been here before and was not thinking it was great....went back after it won an award for best burger....had a burger taste off with my wife and myself....the diablo was great....hot and spicy with a true mix of peppers that just did not involve throwing jalapenos on the meat....it is fun to watch them cook and the place has a texas party atmosphere...it was not the winner....beat out by m & o ....the burger was great and fries good and the service was very texan....damn but i am proud to be a citizen of this great state....you will like the place but be prepared to wait....4 3/4 of 5

mixed feelings...see below. ok maybe it was my expectations...i had heard it was being filmed for a segment on ddd on the food channel...the burgers were hand formed and cooked to order and they were pure fat free burgers...they just were not burgers...more steak burgers...i liked them and the fries were good...the service was great and fun...the price...was high...ready for the hollywood set maybe...i certainly will go a again and you should go...just not the best in town.

if you're a d-bag tcu rich kid that doesn't know any better, you might like this place. but if you grew up with your dad cooking great burgers in the back yard and you know the value of a dollar, prepare to be disappointed. burgers are decent but not worth 8-10 dollars. fries are par, so what's the big fuss about. you pay for the atmosphere which you can get cheaper elsewhere. i was really looking forward to going here needless to say i won't be back

tried this place three times because of the reviews. the chicken fried steak is by far the worst i have ever had! i could not eat more than a couple of bites! the burgers are mediocre at best. the booths are taped up with tape and so low to the ground you feel like your sitting in a child's seat and super cramped. this is a hole in the wall for food and way over priced for the food you are served! the live music is good though, but service is very bad. we felt really ripped off all three times we ate there! all the good reviews have to be fixed!!!

great burger with awesome music selection. blbe prepared to come with an empty stomach otherwise you won't be able to finish the burger, they are that big, the only downside was that the place was very cold

in my opinion, the best burger west of dallas!  i just love big hamburgers and they are definitely a fred tradition, the ratio of meat to bun becomes extraordinary when it reaches 3/4 pound!  medium seems to be the proper temperature, just slightly juicy... but not so much as to soak the bun into a non-edible mess.  get anything you want on them including peeners if you so desire a little heat.

i think they have other things on the menu, but must admit... i have never really looked!  the burgers are my reason to go to fred's texas cafe.  i believe that is why guy's triple d was there a few years ago, too.

they redid the outside patio not long ago and it makes it plenty desirable to eat out there now, however, we stayed inside with the small diner appeal.  the area outside used to be dirt floor and a wood fence, now it is truly a comfortable patio and even includes a stage.  not sure what or when the shows are scheduled, but it could make for an enjoyable weekend evening.

back to the food... did i mention they're the best burgers in fort worth?  the fries are very good as well, appear to be hand cut from real potatoes, maybe a little greasy... but what'd you go for in the first place!?!

this restaurant makes you feel like your in texas. some of the best food in fort worth and for a good price. staff was very helpful and friendly. guy was on top of his game when he visited this place on diners, drive-in's, and dives.

lamb stew. it's a lot like beef stew except is lamb. also, has a slight bit of fire to it, but i loved it!

customer service is everything.. fred's rudely yelled out in front of their entire restaurant for someone to move their car without even fully knowing where the person was destined to dine. they were barely out of their car. it is no wonder the person got in their car and left. parking will always be an issue in downtown locations but good customer service is apparently even harder to find at fred's.
