fred's texas cafe

a friend and i triedfred'stexas cafe because i saw it on the show seiner driverins and dives. the waitstaff was very poor and the food was tasteless however invited the show to visit must have not eaten there . we won't be back.

in response to the previousfred'sreview. sounds like this person should just have gone to in-n-out. must have been awful being able to sip on a beer and listen to music while you waited for your food. if you wanted drinks quicker, maybe you should have waddled up to the bar in the middle of the patio for your drinks. as for the food, it is very good. yes, overpriced, but you are also paying for the atmosphere and the beer is cheap. bacon cheese fries: great. tacos: great. burgers: great, get the diablo. anyways i am glad that this person didn't like it because freds doesn't need patrons like you anyways, they are crowded enough with people who can appreciate a great place. take some sunflower seeds with you next time to get you through that painstaking wait. a+ for freds.

you simply have to eat here is you want a burger. the diablo is the one to order...sit at the bar and watch them cook...this is texas and bless youfred's( who is the owners dog name) for....love taking people there and love going...try to go once a quarter...41/2 buns on the burger scale....

a devil of a burger. been here before and was not thinking it was great....went back after it won an award for best burger....had a burger taste off with my wife and myself....the diablo was great....hot and spicy with a true mix of peppers that just did not involve throwing jalapenos on the meat....it is fun to watch them cook and the place has a texas party atmosphere...it was not the winner....beat out by m & o ....the burger was great and fries good and the service was very texan....damn but i am proud to be a citizen of this great state....you will like the place but be prepared to wait....4 3/4 of 5

mixed feelings...see below. ok maybe it was my expectations...i had heard it was being filmed for a segment on ddd on the food channel...the burgers were hand formed and cooked to order and they were pure fat free burgers...they just were not burgers...more steak burgers...i liked them and the fries were good...the service was great and fun...the price...was high...ready for the hollywood set maybe...i certainly will go a again and you should go...just not the best in town.

in my opinion, the best burger west of dallas!  i just love big hamburgers and they are definitely a fred tradition, the ratio of meat to bun becomes extraordinary when it reaches 3/4 pound!  medium seems to be the proper temperature, just slightly juicy... but not so much as to soak the bun into a non-edible mess.  get anything you want on them including peeners if you so desire a little heat.

i think they have other things on the menu, but must admit... i have never really looked!  the burgers are my reason to go tofred'stexas cafe.  i believe that is why guy's triple d was there a few years ago, too.

they redid the outside patio not long ago and it makes it plenty desirable to eat out there now, however, we stayed inside with the small diner appeal.  the area outside used to be dirt floor and a wood fence, now it is truly a comfortable patio and even includes a stage.  not sure what or when the shows are scheduled, but it could make for an enjoyable weekend evening.

back to the food... did i mention they're the best burgers in fort worth?  the fries are very good as well, appear to be hand cut from real potatoes, maybe a little greasy... but what'd you go for in the first place!?!

customer service is everything..fred'srudely yelled out in front of their entire restaurant for someone to move their car without even fully knowing where the person was destined to dine. they were barely out of their car. it is no wonder the person got in their car and left. parking will always be an issue in downtown locations but good customer service is apparently even harder to find at fred's.

great cfs and great service!. stopped byfred'stoday to grab a bite with the family while touring the museums for spring break. the service was fast and friendly. my wife and i ordered cfs; our chicken fried steaks were fork tender and delicious. my daughter ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which she declared was "yummy!". the home-style fries were a perfect side to these dishes. couldn't ask for better diner-style food in fort worth. we will be back. :-d

for hamburger places, you should rate them not on how many stars do they get but on how many napkins you need.fred'sis a 5-napkin restaurant. try the spicy diablo burger and hand-cut fries. messy but excellent.

atmosphere. okay, the food is good - certainly above edible. but the atmosphere makes this old place. i've been dining here for longer than i care to admit and honestly go back for the cold beer on the patio. the food is just the icing on the cake.fred'smakes fort worth home.

change of heart. husband and i have been big fans offred'suntil recently, when our bill made us have a change of heart. their prices have gone up noticably. after several beers and 2 burgers, our bill after tax and tip was about $60! we lovefred'sburgers but if they're going to start charging $12 for a burger, they're putting themselves in a different burger playing field and falling miserably behind. if i'm going to pay that much for a burger, i'd rather go to dutch's. or even the new rodeo goat. we have no less love forfred'sthan we did before but their prices have ended the honeymoon phase. time to find a new favorite.
p.s. tacking on $2.75 for adding cheese to my fries is laaaame

s-l-o-w. i would recommend to anybody going tofred'sto eat ask their server how long you can expect your order to take.fred'skitchen for the small cafe attached to the open air beer garden was never expanded for the beer garden. so 30 minute or longer waits for a burger are not uncommon. so ya have to know, you could place your order at fred's, drive down camp bowie to kincaid's, order, eat, and be back in the 7th st area before ya ever see your food at fred's.

i finally triedfred'sand it's to die for! the burger is juicy but not to where it's dripping all over your lap. it's one of my favorite burgers of all time for sure.

don't waste your time. we at atfred'son a saturday around 1:30, thinking allot of the crowd would be gone...they were full, but definitively not crowded. first problem we had was even getting a rude waitress to come take our drink order...we waited almost 20 min just for that. second problem is the placement of the speakers, the music was great and i enjoy good music, but the dude running the music board is clueless and the placement of the speakers is, well, stupid if your trying to play music on a patio. the third issue was after we finally got a food order taken, it took over an hour to get our food and when we finally got our food,it was ok....not great...just o.k. the chicken sandwich was so dry you would choke on it and in fact we could have gone across the street to in and out burger and probably got a burger just as good, but way less expensive. oh yea that's the other thing, the food is expensive for what you get. so in my opinion,fred'sis way overrated and i would not return again. peace!

laid back atmosphere, great burger.fred'sis pretty much a country-western style dive bar/restaraunt. i've been twice and the burger was great both times. the fries were too limp the first time i went but the second time they were nice and crispy. good, ice cold bud light on tap. this isn't a place to go for wine or a wide beer selection. the inside is cramped but tolerable and the outside is nice. they have big fans blowing in the summer to keep you cool and live music playing both times i've been. it's a good place for laid back music, laid back atmosphere, ice cold beer and one of the best burgers you'll find. i highly recommendfred'sif you're the laid back, down to earth type. i love it, just wish i lived closer. this is not a place for the high maintenance type though. i want afred'sburger right now!

burgers... but don't forget brunch. you should get over tofred'sfor the burgers for sure... i have had the fred and the spicy diablo. both are great. but if you haven't been there for brunch you are missing out. we have only been on sundays, (not sure if they offer it other days...) and it a great way to start the day, a plate of migas or huevos racherors or the eggs and quail and a scooner of beer or bloody mary. the servers are always friendly and quick we havent checked out the newfred'sin nfw but the original is worth the trip.
