i’ve been following this season’s top chef canada pretty closely, so when i found out that trevor and curtis were opening a restaurant in vancouver, i knew i had to pay fable a visit. i can go on and on about how much i adore both chefs. kay, my top chef buddy, and i stalked their twitter account daily, counting down the days until their opening. so when the day finally came, i reserved a table for 6 via twitter. word got around and our party grew. i felt kind of bad for being a party of 8 in a 60-seater restaurant. as i wasn’t planning on blogging about this visit at the time, i did not take any pictures. all pictures in this post were taken by laura , who is a way better photographer than i am anyway. thanks to their open kitchen by the window, i spotted curtis before even walking into the restaurant and believe me, i was squealing so hard inside. the restaurant had a rustic decor which i loved. again, i wish i had a picture to add. we were led to a table in the back and once i sat d

fable is for real!. only a couple of weeks into a soft launch and this place really has its act together already, especially in the kitchen. every dish stood on its own, heaps of flavour and originality. highlight probably the duck meatball tagliatelle. great to see a new creative force emerge in kits and would give anyone in gastown a run for their money too. prediction - it could be hard to get a table here in about a month, so go now!

we came, we saw and we enjoyed.  trevor promised and he delivered!  an exceptional meal from a great team of chefs, servers and restauranteurs.  curtis your desserts were a knock-out. thanks, rob for saving us from a gastronomic faux pas, pizza could never compare.  you are destined to be one of vancouver's premier restaurants. it was a true dining pleasure.

this ain't no story~ you walk along west 4th and a large restaurant window filled with quick moving bodies catches your eye. this is "fable", a new restaurant built where "fuel" and "refuel" use to live. much has changed in the last two years. you are free to stand on the sidewalk and watch as masterful chefs bring organic and local proteins and vegetables together, or you can come in and experience their vibrant as whimsical dishes in person.   "from farm to table" is their slogan, and they take their theme seriously. this idea is the brain child of trevor bird, a contestant on "top chef canada", season 2. (i am a food network junkie). the idea came on an episode where contestants had to come up with a restaurant concept to wow the judges. farm fresh "fable" was trevor's. he returned home, and by the looks of it was able to successfully turn this idea into reality.   they offer top quality foods without any pretentions that may accompany it. you are made to feel right at home with a g

great atmosphere and staff. i really liked the staff and service i received here today when i came for lunch with my friend. we didn't catch the name of our server but she was very warm, motherly and friendly... i immediately felt comfortable and at ease. she was very diligent in refilling our drinks and waters as necessary and wasn't obtrusive in any way. unfortunately at 12:30pm they were already sold out of their daily feature, so we both settled on the burger with daily soup (creamy tomato) instead. the patty was cooked medium rare which was perfect, and the bun was crispy and flavourful. the soup was so delicious, just like our server promised! i think a restaurant's atmosphere is a real deal-maker or breaker for me and fable kitchen definitely won me over.

my sandwich had all your food freshness in it. but my sandwich choice (eggplant parmesan) was too greasy and salty for my poor aging body.

i truly recommend that you get down to fable kitchen and try what is sure to be one of those happy shuddering culinary moments for you!

as i have mentioned before we are so very fortunate to have a culinary disneyland unfolding more and more each day in the vancouver lower mainland. trevor bird – one of top chef canada’s top competitors opened fable in approx april 2012. the restaurant is is the perfect size and laid out in a comfortable way for you to enjoy food and drinks with friends or co-workers as well as a nice romantic dinner with your love.
if you are fortunate enough to be able to sit at the “chefs wood” then you are in for a treat.
whether you see chef trevor bird or any of his team commanding the kitchen you will see the workings of a well oiled (olive probably) kitchen machine.

fabulous fable kitchen!. best-food-ever! this place is hard to get a seat but we came right at 5pm and got seated right away. service was friendly, atmosphere casual and menu was short...but everything on it is amazing! we got three appetizers...kept ordering more as each one was so good and we couldn't decide...chickpea fritters with curry mayo, smoked salmon on cornbread pancake and the house-made cornbread with miso butter...freshest food i have ever tasted...the flavours were incredible....mmmmm! for dinner i decided to be bold and try duck for the first time in my life...it was served smoked, with applesauce and rhubarb, presented on top of quinoa laden with hazelnuts and dried fruit...it was the most delectable thing i have ever tasted! my mouth exploded with all the fresh flavours and textures. my husband got the butcher's cut steak served with house fries and black pepper jam...he loved it and would not share with me, it was so good! the only bad thing is we were so full by the end of this delicious meal that we had no room for their mouth-watering dessert list. we will definitely be back to try that next time. can't wait!!

lives up to the hype. five friends had a fantastic dinner there. the food was exceptional. both imaginative and unpretentious. not to mention great cocktails and wonderful service. it's a little spendy but the portions are generous. the one drawback was our entrees took a while to come out (more than 30 mins after the appetizer) so if it's really busy i recommend getting an appy and a stiff drink or two to tide you over. reservations a must. i was ready to go back a week later

i have heard so many good things about this place and every word is true!!!!! our waitress recommended me the scrambled eggs and it is awesome!!!!! my friend had the french toast and he also said it was one of the better french toasts in the city.  the service was spectacular, the portions was perfect. i have a tendency to over eat to the point it makes me sick, but because they portioned i am left perfectly satisfied and at the same time i won't feel like my belly is about to explode :)

birthday dinner with close friends and boyfriend. restaurant was full when we got there. waitress was very attentive and friendly! i shared a spaghetti with duck meatball, gnocchi, and of course lemon meringue parfait with girlfriend 😊. i stole some of boyfriend's smoked duck breast. the lemon meringue was sweeter than i imagined and girlfriend complained about the little amount of ice cream in the parfait 😂. overall was a good dinner :)

each and every menu item we ate was unique and delicious. the chickpea fritters were the best and the sides were really good too. even my husband who doesn’t love adventurous vegetables loved our zucchini flower and oyster mushroom side dishes.

we were on vacation and visited this restaurant on the recommendation of a local. it’s outside of the downtown area and we were quite happy we gave it a try. it was well worth the short cab ride.

their special for the night was some type of pasta...it was great, you could taste the difference that fresh hand made pasta makes. also, ordered their duck which was exceptional. going to come back for sure!

i was wandering why i was having difficulties describing how i felt about this place and then i realized that i simply didnt have a lot of feelings for it. i visited 3 or 4 times and every time i felt the same. the food was good, a little flat on taste and flavor, but still good. for some reason i didnt feel that i would want to come back for it soon. the service was friendly but friendly is probably the only word i can find to describe it.

one thing i noticed on my every visit was that communication between the floor and the kitchen staff was a bit indescreet and loud. we had to listen to them throwing personal remarks at each other which, i thought, was somewhat disrespectful to the people they are serving.

every time i try a different wine but never had an urge to find out more about it to, may be, pick up a bottle later at a local wine store. good sommelier cares about quality of a glass his selection is served in... these glasses are definitely not the finest.

the place was not disappointing but i never heard from my party "let's do fable kitchen again!"
