excellent food. i wish i hadn't waited so long to visit! almost everything for our table of four was perfect - the steak tartare (which may have been a special) was a standout, as was the duck breast, on the most perfect spaetzle. i found the tuna in a jar a little too sweet/candied lemony for me, but it was still good, and the service was attentive without being overbearing.

i also found the portions sizes quite reasonable for the prices.

my only complaint is the room itself - i see from previous comments they have tried to do something about the noise, but it is not enough. i don't know how loud it was before, but for me (in my mid-thirties, and well beyond my night-club years) i am not happy when i can't hear the waitress or dining companions. maybe some fabric on the walls would held? also, the ac was definitely not up to the task for a warm august. i never went here when it was fuel, but if i recall, one of their issues was the strangeness of the space. however, the food is worth, i'll just wait till the weather cools down.

my friend said.. the parfait is what dreams are made of.. service: friendly and attentive wait staff, could hold a conversation without sounding overly salesman-y. i didn’t have to ask to have my water replenished more than once. the server was enthusiastic when it came to the food and would readily give recommendations, we tried the canned tuna that he recommended and it was marvelous.

food: we had 1 appy (canned tuna) 2 entrees (the duck breast and another no longer on the menu) 2 desserts (lemon meringue parfait and blueberry lavender tart). we finished the crostinis that came with the canned tuna and they gave us more so we could polish the tuna off. wow, the tuna was good. the duck breast was a little disappointing as it was a bit chewier than anticipated through the flavor was good but the cabbage a little saltier than i would’ve liked. my friend had the entrée that was the 63 slow poached egg with the pea puree. the pea puree was surprisingly refreshing. dessert was fabulous, my friend is a bit of a lemon meringue snob and she absolutely loved the lemon meringue parfait. i know that she’s been back a few times already and has ordered it each time. overall for our meal + 1 drink it came our meal came to just under $100.

ambience: the restaurant was packed, and quite loud. they had interesting décor with a chalkboard full of specials and artwork hung up along the walls. it was great that the kitchen/bar area was open and you could watch what the chefs in the kitchen were doing. seating was a bit tight but i guess there’s not a choice since there’s just so many people wanting to come in!

definitely would return again and bring new people with me!

fable hosts a lovely meal - the service is warm and the ambiance is inviting. our dinner started with the renowned canned tuna - a citrusy mix of albacore, potatoes, and olive oil. unique and certainly worth trying. the slow cooked spring salmon was undoubtedly fresh, but nothing on the plate impressed me. the salmon was slightly under-seasoned and the spring cassoulet did not add to the dish. i did, however, enjoy the tempura mushrooms that garnished the plate. the "p" gnocchi with pork belly was a star. the gnocchi came perfectly-cooked and the flavours well-complemented one another. to finish, we had the blueberry lavender tart. i appreciated the mild sweetness and the use of fresh berries. my preference leans toward a tart shell that is more light and flaky, but, when combined with the vanilla ice cream, you have delicious spoonfuls to end the meal.

for my main course i chose the steak frites -medium rare. triple cooked potatoes are cut into small wedges, boiled and then twice deep-fried to make them "fluffy" on the inside and crisp on the outside. they were so wickedly good that i broke my rule of tasting rather than devouring and nary a fragment of potato could be found on my plate when finished. the steak which was cooked perfectly to medium-rare, also comes with buttered spinach and flavourful mushrooms that added a hint of sweetness and acidity to the dish.

overrated. for premium-priced breakfast, they under-delivered. the hollandaise sauce had a very vinegary taste that wasn't to our liking. when we mentioned it to our waitress (at the end of the meal, since we just wanted to know if it was normal), she said she word check with the chef. however, when she came back to run our card through, she made no mention of the sauce. all we were hoping for was some clarification/acknowledgment that we had a sub-par experience. because of this experience, we won't be going back.

the next stop was at fable restaurant, which opened its doors last summer. click here to check out our blog post from their grand opening. if you haven’t been here yet, i highly recommend that you check them out. their dinner menu is always fantastic, and they have great boozey brunches with excellent drink specials every last sunday of the month.

disappointing duck. the mocktail was great, the asparagus salad was tasty - worth it for the flavour of the bacon vinaigrette - but tiny for $12, and the duck on a bed of creamed cabbage with a side of terrine on a tart/cracker with rhubarb was nothing special. the rhubarb was quite sour and didn't work with anything on the plate, the duck was very chewy, and the cracker and creamed cabbage was flavourless. the terrine was very good. overall, surprisingly disappointing for the second most expensive item, at $25, on the menu. will probably go back to try something else.

i loved the food and the whole meal experience. what makes fable brunch special? i think its the execution of the dishes, the attention to detail, and the quality ingredients. they even give you delightful (and warm) complimentary cookies when they bring you the bill. service was efficient, friendly, and attentive. more than just good food, a great experience.

lovely! went with my boyfriend for his birthday and was very impressed with the food and service. the dining area is a bit too squished for my liking, but hopefully they will expand in the future. value is definitely there, as i ordered the asparagus salad and the p gnocchi and couldn't finish either, never mind the dessert! casual setting with attentive service. will be coming back!

great food, great service!. i came here for my graduation dinner and it was amazing! our server (nick) was so attentive - we never had to ask to have our glasses refilled, and he explained every dish with great detail. we had the set menu with family style second course and dessert. needless to say, we were full by the second course and every one of us had to pack our entrees! leaving for calgary the next day, i have to say - the food kept well :)

we were one of the last tables that night and we saw all the kitchen staff promptly cleaning the kitchen. my aunt (who has a thing for cleanliness) was extremely impressed.

the night ended with me taking a picture with trevor - he is just such an enthusiastic and friendly guy. nick held the door open for us as we left and you could just tell that the entire staff loves working there!

highly recommend it to anyone! and i will be sure to go back whenever i go back to vancouver!!

warm and hearty meal. came here for a family style dinner event that was for charity so there were off menu items that i unfortunately cannot rename :( but everything put in front of me was absolutely delicious. we were served so much food i thought my date was going to pass out. aha! the highlight of the night was definitely the desserts- not a huge fan of macarons but they were brilliant here and the lemon dessert (some sort of custard and sorbet) was the best lemon dessert i have ever had. i usually opt for chocolate or coffee but this one was delish! will definitely be back.

the room is comfortable and inviting with exposed brick walls, wood beams and a bar with views into the kitchen. lunch is a casual affair with fresh sandwiches, soups and salads, while dinner is a more intense with an ever-changing menu including items such an asparagus salad with fresh ricotta and bacon vinaigrette, their signature canned tuna, slow cooked spring salmon or potato crusted chicken. weekend brunch is a hit. welcoming service, great cocktails and a great - see more at: http://goodlifevancouver.com/fable-restaurant/#sthash.namvdck4.dpuf
