... ricotta gnudi w pulled pork, bc vine tomatoes, basil pesto, yellowfoot chantrelles... really tender and juicy pulled pork; gnudi (essentially gnocchi but w just ricotta & flour) firm but bouncy, lovely; could have used a tad more sauce though

dropped by for brunch. service was wonderful and drinks were tasty. the benedict and steak and egg entrees were just normal, and if we had stopped there, the review may have been borderline negative due to the high price. however, as we had just came in from some intense exercise, we felt the need to order a third entree, the pulled pork jack cakes; my god. the exquisite taste and texture of this dish single handedly lifted fable back up to being a positive experience.

in summary: not the most consistent across all dishes, but when you order the right thing, you'll be wow'd away.

...food is good but prices are frightful for the portion -- like $29 for this lump of halibut my friend ordered. you have been warned. menu changes according to what is available, but likely the lemon meringue parfait will always be there.

if you are in and around west 4th, i recommend you check out fable , a restaurant focusing on serving it up 'farm to table'.    the food is unpretentious as is the setting with approachable, quality ingredients. a nice spot to bring your mom or mom-in-law. we went for brunch and had the fable stew and fable muffin.  i think what sets this place above most places is their attention to details like the house made tomato jam. nice place, reasonable wait times, accommodating staff, casual setting, acceptable prices.

the food isn’t unlike what you’ll find here in toronto. i like how fable kitchen does their own take on classic favourites—and does them well. sharing wasn’t a problem at all (except for the lemon meringue parfait) and while the dining room was packed as expected, we could still hold a conversation without having to raise our voices. the food was a bit pricier than i’d expected but it was good. i’ll definitely come back next time i’m in vancouver, which cross my fingers will be soon! :d

love the innovative menu, friendly staff, cozy atmosphere. 'canned tuna' is the best!

memorable and delicious. these guys really take pride in their food. from the presentation to quality to sustainability this is a dining experience to remember. the servers know their stuff! i go here for every special occasion and get the canned tuna. i also always get dessert and i'm not a dessert fan usually. trevor came to my table each visit to get feedback on his dishes. i really feel like dining here is a must for anyone in vancouver who likes good quality food and lots of flavour in a comfortable higher end restaurant. oh sit at the counter on a date and watch your food being prepared

we also ordered the lemon meringue parfait with tarragon ice cream and streusel. it’s a very big and impressive looking dessert! the meringue was nice and light and then there was a scoop of tarragon ice cream underneath.

vancouver would have a real food scene if people ran their restaurants this way.. instead it has a few gems in a haystack....and fable is one of them.

sitting down with the lady for a birthday dinner, we opted for the kitchen bar (as i always will as retired trade in the industry).

service was extremely friendly and attentive without being overbearing. menu was smart and terse and not a novel where you have to wonder 'what's good?' ' can you recommend something?'.

wine list full of young wines and overall very uninteresting, which is ok i guess since its a food first restaurant.

started with a quail special and the canned tuna. both were quite tasty although the qual was fried whole and a little bit under. i mentioned that and immediately trevor came over and asked. i provided some feedback and he thanked me for it and the constructive criticism and went immediately back to the line to make adjustments. wow.

main we shared the squash gnocchi with ricotta and almonds. really different but balanced, well seasoned. we had a side of broccolini which was by no means an afterthought. perfectly blanched, cooked and seasoned and not doused in butter to produce flavour.

for dessert, we went for the cheesecake with chai caramel and pickled apples. every item on the plate was perfect but the cheesecake portion was really small.

after the meal, trevor approached me again and was happy to hear feedback.

this is the type of person who cares about the food and your experience and if it continues will be as successful as a restaurant as it wants to be. it's a refreshing change to see this level of skill and competence without the arrogance.

would return for as long as it stays this way.

my first experience at fable was lunch. i had an awesome eggplant parmesan sandwich with walnut pesto, pea shoots, pickled onion and raita sauce with a masala spiced soup. months later, i was treated to a belated birthday brunch that was equally awesome. when i got an email about a work-related dinner at fable, i was excited to round out the meal "trifecta. "

the interior is marked by a large exposed brick wall that runs the depth of the restaurant and it’s noticeably loud with the din of the other diners.

pretty good brunch. brunch is pretty reasonable compared to other places in the area (sophie's, abigail's, etc). thought the portions were a little stingy, though that's always true in pricier restaurants. service was really friendly though, and the vibe was great. we had the salami eggs benedict that was on special and it was pretty good - nothing to blow me out of the water though.
