this is one of two restaurants in vancouver i've given a 5.0. fable is truly spectacular. it's really honestly incredible on all fronts without being pretentious. the food was prepared with so much love. i had the tagliatelle with chorizo. it was perfectly balanced and bursting with flavor. the service was incredible. this is hands down my favorite restaurant in kitsilano now. i'm going to try everything on their menu!

the smoked duck breast was tender, juicy, and well seasoned. the fat portion was just right and did not leave much greasy aftertaste. the quinoa, cranberries, cauliflower, and apple purée was an interesting and refreshing combination. i quite enjoy looking at the open kitchen that's close to the door. it's a busy restaurant with tight seating and quite loud as well. service was friendly. will be back.

visited for sunday brunch, even though the place was busy, the service was efficient and the food came really quickly.
mushroom polenta: really, really salty. however, if you can get over how salty it was, it's still a nice dish. it had a comfy food vibe with a mixture of mushroom, kale, poached eggs, and fine cornmeal.
egg benny (cod special): the poached eggs were just the right consistency for me. slightly runny but not the type that will leak all over the plate. the cod special egg benny simply had some lemon-y cod mushed over the english muffins. the flavors were really nice but i wish they gave more fish than just a thin spread.

it was 10:25 am on a saturday, and there was already a line up of about 15 people outside of the restaurant. nevertheless, we were still able to grab a table shortly after at 10:35. the interior of fable kitchen was quite spacious, and the atmosphere was pretty laid back. their kitchen was also completely open for everyone to see.

house made tomato soup: for the appetizers, this is the one we had to come back for. there was a scare when we thought it would not return for this year, but thankfully it did.

it’s a generously sized portion, and comes topped with two pieces of their grilled cheese. rich and thick, creamy, velvety smooth, and delicious.

duck carpaccio: this was a feature that night, and we were sold the minute we were introduced to it.

i went here with a friend of mine once. so please read my review with that in mind. i went for lunch and was surprised by the price on the menu. i had no idea this place was so expensive. but the food i did order was good. not the best and definitely not worth the money i paid but good enough. probably won't visit again tho since i could get better food for bette price.

fable is a farm to table gem in kitsilano that is a must visit for brunch. they have a great atmosphere and an open kitchen, so if you are seated at the bar, you can watch the chefs at work! i had the brunch sandwich: between two slices of crusty buttered bread was the creamiest scrambled eggs i have ever had, house made sausage, cheddar, tomato jam, arugula and their house made black pepper jam. it was served with a side salad and a rosti - a crispy potato patty topped with a dollop of chive cream. that rosti was amazing and i could honestly just eat an entire plate of just rostis!

had the pleasure of eating at fable yesterday with my work team and we had a blast. what a wonderful spot. from the moment we walked in, we loved it. the service was excellent so say the least; our server was warm, knowledgable about everything on the menu and clearly passionate. the food - what can i even say? every bite of every course we had was complex and delicious; there was not one thing we did not like... seriously, not one. we started with the charcuterie board which was wonderful down to the pickled vegetables. we were not embarrassed to announced we cleaned the board. my favourite item was the german sausage and it is so impressive that they make them in house every day. i then had the gnocchi with squash and pulled pork. i'm a gnocchi junkie and fable's was light and fluffy as well as juicy and crisp. the squash was grilled to perfection and complimented the gnocchi perfectly. the pulled pork was so flavourful and the burnt onions added a whole new layer of flavour. i got got to also try the meatball pasta - astounding - the duck - like silky butter - and the pork tenderloin - simply delicious.

with friendly staff and a welcoming interior, fable not only serves comfort food, but is a place of comfort. it boasts farm-to-table and actually delivers. they come at you with opening arms, filling your tummy and listening to your suggestions. i can’t wait until the next time i get to return for dinner, or try out their brunches just so i can indulge in another taste of their bacon without feeling weird to order it for dessert.

it was brunch time on remembrance day and the place was quite bustlin' and hustlin'. we initially wanted to go to sophie's but that line was even longer. and it is always cool to try something new. . i thought that the ambience was really nice but personally, while it was pretty yummy....

this is one of my favourite recommends on west 4th. during my initial visit i was so impressed by their unique offerings and their thorough service, even during a busy dinner set. so when my guest and i were looking for a solid place for a quick stop and a quick bite, this was my go to. not to mention, that she herself has had a good experience here and wanted to go.

a few years ago i overheard my supervisor mention to another coworker that she always lets her kids stay home from school on their birthday. my ears perked up, and i immediately shot out of my seat and asked whether that meant that she was cool with me not showing up on my birthday as well. i’d caught her in a trap, and she had no way of backing out. mua ha ha! food wench for the win! ever since then, i’ve always made a point of not showing up to the lab on my birthday (because there’s nothing like a failed western blot to give you the birthday blues). instead i usually book myself a massage, and find some friends who also have the day off to help me consume copious amounts of food and wine. and so a couple of days before this year’s birthday, i scrolled through my contacts to find a friend that would have the friday off of work. and kept scrolling, and scrolling, and scrolling. dammit! i realised that all my friends now work weekday jobs. damn careers. even my teacher friends were already back at work, since it was the last week of august. food wench fail. but then inspiration struck. drunken master “works” from home multiple days a week. also he’s a monster that can’t say no to food. perfect!

fable, probably the best casual dining experience i've had in a while. i went with a date and managed to scoop the last walk in table. i ordered many things, the special: baguette with i think it was chili mayo... canned tuna, cauliflower, duck meatball and tagliatelle, gnocchi with pulled pork, duck and special: halibut. for dessert we ordered the "oops! i dropped the dessert"

baguette: twas the bomb... freshly baked bread is always awesome!

canned tuna: pretty solid dish. i would order it again

duck meatball: best! best! best dish in the restaurant. the meatball had a great crust and was very nice and juicy on the inside. the sauce was pretty on point too. if you synergized the baguette with the meatballs... wow, what an amazing sandwich youd have!

cauliflower: mediocre, it tasted okay but its only worth having once.

gnocchi with pulled pork: the sleeper hold of a dish. eating this will put you to bed...

duck: macadamia nuts.. interesting... the dish needed a jus or a sauce to go with the duck. duck itself was well cooked

halibut: lots of green. it was okay all together but it wasnt the outstanding star

oops i dropped the dessert: great dessert! the waffle cone, the ice cream... it was a creative, whimsical dish. i loved it.

chef trevor is doing a great job at fable. it is definitely a must go to, destination restaurant in vancity. it is the epitome of casual, home style cooking. i recall tipping 40%...definitely worth the experience!

was randomly walking past the restaurant and decided to go in. the food is savoury and rich in favour, yet well balanced. for some dishes, the simple description on the menu actually doesn't help you visualise the experience you would have when eating in fable kitchen.

the best dish we has was the octopus salad - on par with the best roast potato i've ever had. sometimes it's through the simplest things that you could appreciate the chef's attention to detail. the roasted potato is crispy on the outside and so soft when you bite into it. the octopus is grilled to the right timings, preserving it's freshness yet giving that roasted taste. overall every bite is a challenge to your taste buds. it's full of flavour - sour, sweet, salty, fresh, yet it's all very well balanced.
