the food is really unique and really good, and so are their martinis! just don't ever, ever try to go there on the weekend! we went on a friday night - got there at 7 and were told a 45 minute wait. we were made to wait outside for most of the time, and didn't actually get seated until 9:30!! people who came after us got seated immediately and given free drinks after complaining, while we were made to wait longer because of it. really, if the food wasn't so good, i would never come back after that experience.

steak, steak, steak. i am not a huge steak fan but i get it here every time, on anything! the steak tacos and steak enchiladas are perfection. this is a terrific place for a group of friends in the summer.

the restaurant itself is reminiscent of a mexican flea market; there’s stuff everywhere! don’t get me wrong, the atmosphere is incredible. the outside has market carts and colorful decorations, picnic tables, etc. it manages to be both a cozy and social environment. the real treat is inside. the place is dark, lit by punched tin lanterns and strings of colored lights. tables are separated by dyed cloths with day of the dead skeletons and eerie faces of workers picking plants in a field. even the restrooms stick to the eclectic theme. back to the steak taco

satisfying and worth the cost!. i'm not sure why these people are constantly mentioning the cost. if you want cheap, everyday mexican food, this is not your restaurant. you can find plenty of those all around raleigh. anyone that eats here knows that by reviewing the menu, so don't leave a message on here with a negative review because of that. this food is quality and the meats are from free roaming, local farms and organic fruits and vegetables. you pay for what you get! the food is outstanding and leaves you feeling satisfied, not weighed down. in a large city, this place would do so well. i highly recommend this place for the persons willing to pay the appropriate amount for the quality of their food.

not worth the hype!. this place was too dark and borderline creepy. the service was okay, but the food was terrible! our food was clearly heated in the microwave, it didn't taste fresh. and worst of all, they overmicrowaved the food! the refried beans were so burnt, they were hard. they comped one plate (i suffered through mine-btw, the cashier and server did not seem surprised or apologetic that the food came out in this condition). i ordered some kind of "popular", yet forgettable, steak dish. the steak was dry, my rice was dry, but my refried beans were not as badly overheated as my lunchmate (the food lacked the usual flavorful profile i expect from mexican cuisine). overall, this place was a horribly dissapointing experience. the lunch price was a bit high, but if the food had been good, the price might not have stood out as much. also, i could have sworn a spider fell from the ceiling-eek! maybe this was a really bad day, but i am not intrigued enough to give them a second glance or chance.

unchanged from last visit 3 years ago. decor remains dark and a bit freakish. menu is standard fare, and the food remains average. dt's was fun/convenient years ago, but there's so many newer/better options in the area now.

sunday brunch. on my first trip i had steak and eggs with beans, rice, plantains, and flour tortillas. the cheese and green chilies on the steak made it taste a little cartoony, but still good. the eggs were not cooked to order and quite disappointing. however, the steak was perfectly cooked and the beans were still firm and not the watery mush i get most places. and the plantains had a wonderful light char to them that really complemented the sweetness. i was overall satisfied. however, my second trip was absolutely awful. they were out of the tamales and eggs dish i wanted to try, so i settled for carnitas. they were quite bad. dry little fried pork nuggets that were absolutely tasteless. not sure if the place is worth a third try. the decor is awful and the chairs are mismatched things that are falling apart. it's also way too dim.

3 of 4 stars (good, casual dining).. (see explanation of ratings below)

funky, cluttered, dark interior. patio may be a better choice to sit (depending on the weather).

great margarita. salty lamb biria. chili relleno was too bitter.

they changed our favorite soup! different owners? different chef?

same friendly wait staff.

usually, this place is very busy. be prepared for a wait at peak times.

about my ratings:

i divide restaurants into three categories.

1) fast food and "fast-casual" (low-priced, no table service).

2) casual, mid-priced dining (table service, average entrée price: $10-$20).

3) fine, high-end dining (linen napkins, no plastic cups, no tv's in dining room, average entrée priced at more than $20, can vary depending on the city).

fine dining can earn a max of five stars. casual dining can earn a max of four stars. fast food can earn a max of three stars.

very funky atmosphere and fantastic, authentic food. not to be confused with dos taquitos centro (which is downtown), the north raleigh location has been in business for sixteen years and is still going strong! it really is unique and one of the triangle's very best. not fancy, mind you, but a very funky atmosphere and fantastic, authentic food.

some might be quick to call this "mexican" food, but there are several dishes which are more common south of mexico's border.

we've never had a bad meal here. it's one of those places that you really should take visitors because they probably have never been to any other place quite like it.

on our last visit, total bill was $97 (three diners, no dessert, one non-drinker, tip included).

these unique tacos were wrapped in corn tortillas, filled with pork seasoned with dried chilis and pineapple, and then topped with large chunks of fresh pineapple. with the side salad gently tucked into a corn chip bowl next to the tacos, this was a satisfying lunch option. i highly recommend the cilantro dressing on the salad.

this place used to be amazing now i would rate it as good not great. it's been sliding since the uncle left to start gonza. we have not been in some time. they used to do so amazing stuff. their special occasion dinners used to be quite something as well.

we were in raleigh for the weekend. dinner at dos taquitos on a thursday night: a bit of a wait, not terrible. restaurant was crowded and noisy and dim, but we liked the decor. the salsa was weirdly sweet and the sour cream sauce on one of my enchiladas was even sweeter! the refried beans were bland. everything else--black beans, steak fajitas, child's quesadilla--was delicious. so we went back for lunch on saturday and had the worst service i have ever had in a restaurant. the server who took our order basically stopped at our table snd said, "oh, i guess i'll take your order since no one else has." seriously? there were *maybe* three occupied tables beside ours and two servers working, and we couldn't get orders taken, drinks refilled, dessert ordered...it took forever. no fun with a 2-year-old! the food was still good but i'd hardly recommend the restaurant now.
