don mee

food ranged from poor to boring and theservicewasn't much better. clearly had been a good restaurant a3 one time, now just coasting

don mee and i. we order the delicious meal set for two. theservicewas fast. the food tasty, every mouthful was filled with exquisite flavors, most importantly it was not greasy, so it didn't give you that nasty heavy nor bloated feeling after you eat and my fortune cookie says "good time ahead"

when compared to our previous yum cha experience, don mee definitely has the tastier food and a more varied selection of dim sums. the standout dish was the glutinous rice - the chinese sausage was thick and juicy. my aunt and uncle loved the steamed sponge cake and i could understand why. it was light, fluffy, and with just a hint of sweetness, it punctuate through all the savoury dishes.

the siu mai and har gao still have quite a bit more to go before they reach peak deliciousness; both just weren't moist enough. the chicken feet was somewhat dull, and lacking the pungent savoury taste associated with this dish.

but what made the deepest impression was the service, or should i say the lack of service. the servers did their best to ignore you, and when you do manage to get someone's attention, they either pass your request to another or make you feel like you're inconveniencing them. theservicereally bring down the whole experience.

i grew up on this stuff. okay, it's not the fancy hong kong-style cantonese food but this is truly authentic chinese food for the immigrants that came to canada before the 1980s and 1990s, well before the recent waves of hong kong and china immigrants. we had really friendlyserviceand were happy to come here for dinner.

very good dim sum - on par with vancouver. good tea, good prices (the usual stamp card set up), only missing the lazy susan's. the women who serve the dim sum from the carts had such hussle, very goodserviceon a busy sunday afternoon. they were happy to let us know when our favourite items were coming out. would return to very often again. reminiscent of home.

what the hell ! that's a "chinese restaurant" ?! kidding me ! their awful food and unbelievable prices make me disgusted! plus, theserviceis bad bad bad! especially an old thin man. he behave odd and rude. what a xxxxxxx restaurant! environment doesn't match high price

overpriced dim sum:(. the dim sum was over cooked and overpriced compared with its quality. theservicewas slow and the waitress was not well trained. but other dishes were just ok~

rude. i would have to say we had quite an unfortunate experience with theserviceat don mee. first of all, we started with a nice waiter who was very engaging and friendly, he answered every question we had about the menu, and even talked with us personally. near the end of the meal, it seemed like our waiter had gone home or was on a break, because an older waitress came to check on our table and finish service. there was no explanation as to where he had gone, and she appeared quite unfriendly. finally, upon paying for the meal using a credit card and a portable machine, she hovered over watching as the buttons on the machine were pushed and when it came to a point to make a decision for a tip...after a few seconds of contemplating what to put, she said "here, let me help" and entered her own tip at $10.00! i couldn't believe that this lady, who we had only been dealing with for maybe 5 or 10 minutes had entered a $10.00 tip, on a $50 bill without even any instruction or consultation to do so! i will never go back to this restaurant again, which is unfortunate, because the nice young waiter left a good overall impression. the thing is i probably would have tipped with boy $10.00 if he had stayed as our waiter, because he deserved it. but there is no way i think that this was appropriate for this lady to do after only being around to refill our water only once before the end of the meal.

great for dim sum!. i love the dim sum carts! they are very good! i recommend the deep fried wontons! excellent. i ordered a combo and it was the smallest portion i have ever seen for a combo! i planned on sharing it with my boyfriend but he was starving enough to just eat it to himself let alone share. but theservicewas great. the girls with the carts were very helpful. id definitley go again.

pricey for such uninspired fare. the room is a lot nicer than it's neighbors. shimp was big and plentiful but the cooks were too lazy to devein most of them. (check picture)servicewas fine during dinner service. however the manager / cashier / host who was old and thin was not very pleasant.

tourist trap. this place takes poorserviceto a new level. rude and unhelpful though just plain ignoring you. huge queues, long waits and greasy unpleasant food. no, no, no. do yourself a favor, get out of the town center and go to the fountain or better yet (unbelievably), the jade fountain.
