horrible service!. our party of 11 had a reso for 5:30, we ordered at 5:45. after being told that most of what we wanted was only available at lunch, we settled for several dishes. we were starving! 1.5 hrs later we had two of our 8 dishes. several tables had all their food, lots of food, and they were seated a good half hour after us! the difference they were all chinese and we were not. when we expressed our disappointment, the server waved her hand, mumbled something in chinese and walked away. argggh what a horrible experience! i don't know if i will ever go back. needless to say, i was not happy to pay for our hefty bill! brutal, major fail.

don mee and i. we order the delicious meal set for two. the service was fast. the food tasty, every mouthful was filled with exquisite flavors, most importantly it was not greasy, so it didn't give you that nasty heavy nor bloated feeling after you eat and my fortune cookie says "good time ahead"

mediocre. went for dim sum - tasteless. tourist wonder; i.e., tourists wonder why they went...

i've been coming here since the day i was born. not quite an exaggeration. they're pricier but one of the few/only places that still pushes dimsum out on a cart and serve long-time favourites. the dimsum is one of the better quality ones you can find in the city so definitely quality over quantity/price here.

i don’t go for dim sum often but jumped at the chance when we were meeting up with some friends for saturday brunch. we arrived at 11:30am and put our name down. only had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a table. it got pretty busy at noon so i suggest going earlier. seems like the tour buses bring people here too.

had christmas day brunch there this year. hey, it was just my partner and i for the holidays and we figured we would do something different.
a really good experience and based on previous visits i have to relate this is a consistantly run dim sum restaurant you can count on. big room, not crowded, clean, good staff, and lots of choices on the food tables being brough@t around regularily.
im always happy with the experience of trying new and different foods when i eat dim sum.
and also always reminded that it is consistantly rather pricey when i go to pay.
no different here.
so, 1 point off for that,...but thats it.
this place is really good.
xo to youz.

when compared to our previous yum cha experience, don mee definitely has the tastier food and a more varied selection of dim sums. the standout dish was the glutinous rice - the chinese sausage was thick and juicy. my aunt and uncle loved the steamed sponge cake and i could understand why. it was light, fluffy, and with just a hint of sweetness, it punctuate through all the savoury dishes.

the siu mai and har gao still have quite a bit more to go before they reach peak deliciousness; both just weren't moist enough. the chicken feet was somewhat dull, and lacking the pungent savoury taste associated with this dish.

but what made the deepest impression was the service, or should i say the lack of service. the servers did their best to ignore you, and when you do manage to get someone's attention, they either pass your request to another or make you feel like you're inconveniencing them. the service really bring down the whole experience.

a retro chinese dim sum restaurant in victoria chinatown. the style of their dimsum is really old fashion, but acceptable quality. of course, you cannot compare to what we can get from metro vancouver.

went here recently for dim sum lunch. no real complaints, most of it was pretty good. dim sum is always a bit of a crap shoot for me but over all it was what we expected, greasy, saucy, spice and quick. i went with my filipino co-worker and he liked it a lot. maybe i don't do dim sum enough to be the best judge... i would go again but honestly for $20 i can think of better china town options that are more fitting my tastes.

i was initially quite skeptical about don mee because it didn’t have the highest ratings on popular sites such as yelp and zomato. my husband had tried the restaurant before with a few of his friends a few years back and he said he quite enjoyed it – enough to go back at least. as the restaurant had been in business for over 80 years, i was pretty curious to see how their dim sum was.
as we finally got seated, the table was clean and we were ready to order. because dim sum here is fully on carts, there is no menu. you just ask the servers for a plate of whatever you like that they have and they mark it down on the paper which later becomes your bill.

we tried a few things, but we ended up ordering a few plates more than we anticipated (that’s what happens when you’re hungry) so we had to take some home.

i grew up on this stuff. okay, it's not the fancy hong kong-style cantonese food but this is truly authentic chinese food for the immigrants that came to canada before the 1980s and 1990s, well before the recent waves of hong kong and china immigrants. we had really friendly service and were happy to come here for dinner.

we waited 30 minutes for a table for two. reasonable i suppose for they had only about six tabled for two. but when we were finally seated it took ten minutes for them to bring us a lunch menu as we didn't want dim sum. we waited another 20 minutes and no one came. i've never been ignored at a restaurant before. we finally just left empty handed. i guess there is a first time for everything.

as a friend recently told me, don mee isn’t for chinese, it is for caucasians who like western style chinese cuisine. perhaps there is a ring of truth. after ed and i had finished dining there for chinese new year, what we ate wasn’t close to authentic. he’s been to shanghai and sampled the cuisine around this region. back in victoria, however, i’ve heard there’s food you can order off the menu but perhaps if i had prior knowledge, it would’ve made for some wiser decisions.
