menu is very good, prices are very affordable, staff is very friendly and efficient but the food....is the best feature! it is a good thing we were a large party of six so we could play the sample game! will definitely go back when i find myself in charlotte again!

basic done well. when in doubt in plaza midwood, this is where we go. you can't go wrong with the chicken and dumplings or meatloaf. every guest i've taken there loves the place.

we really wanted to love "dish" because of the other reviews on urbanspoon, but our experience was mostly mediocre. a good, solid offering was chicken & dumplings and key lime pie. everything else, not so much. that includes the pot roast (a little salty), the mashed sweet potatoes (bland), the collards side, the biscuits (dry and bland), and the collard dip. very good service.

this restaurant can become your go to place! one of my favorite things about the plaza midwood neighborhood here in charlotte is that it’s home to some really awesome restaurants (soul, zada jane’s, bistro la bon). one staple neighborhood restaurant which i also like to frequent is dish. i

the potato poppers are amazing.

i won't be going back to dish. the restaurant was very busy which was good for their business, but our waitress had to serve this one whole section all by herself with no help. there were other staff members there, but no one was helping her take orders. i had the chicken & dumplings which was good, but i had a huge clump of dumpling that took up most of the bowl and it was raw on the inside due to the size of it. the greens were basically raw just blanched. they needed to be cooked a lot longer. the deviled eggs were ok, served too warm for me but they were fine. my partner had the special which was fried perch and said it wasn't seasoned at all, just fish fried. the biscuit was really good. the sweet potato pie was gross and over priced, don't bother. our waitress was amazing and she did an awesome job especially considering the circumstances.

this place is amazing. great home cooked food at super low prices. must try the meatloaf, zuccini bisque, chicken dumplings and bisquits.

nice place!. we had dinner here this past saturday night. saw it on the show diners, drive-ins and dives so figured we give it a try. really nice, comfortable restaurant with very attentive but not overbearing service. we started with the potato poppers and fried green tomatoes. they were both good especially the poppers. also, both dishes were fried but not greasy or overly salted. the entrees were the chicken with dumplings, salmon patties and the blackened tilapia sandwich. all three dishes were excellent especially the tilapia. my daughter loved the chicken with dumplings and my wife liked the salmon patties. can't wait to return!

i love this place!. this is one of my fav. go to places in charlotte. the food is amazing! the service is always amazing! and it's just a down-home kind of place with a higher end quality with great prices. please give dish a try! oh, and the breakfast is amazing too!

i love the meatloaf!!!!!. had the cajun spiced meatloaf with mashed potatoes. great flavour, and home made mashed potatoes. my daughter had the chicken and dumplings, smothered in a fantastic gravy. my wife ate the salmon cakes, which were a nice twist to the traditional fish cake and was served with collard greens. the hamburger my son ate was also delicious. the one item that blew me away were the biscuits. my aunts make delicious biscuits, but these were the best buscuits i have had in a long time. i would love to be able to go back to dish soon.

from a real southern girl...this is real southern food, and done right! my husband had chicken & dumplings and claimed they were better than my grandmothers family recipe! i had country fried steak that literally melted in your mouth and traditional chunky mashed potatoes. not to mention the biscuits drizzled with honey and banana pudding to die for! friendly, fast service in a non pretentious, cozy setting.

my friends and i went here for dinner and we all ordered our meals and it took forever even though it wasn't busy. then one of them wanted to order dessert, so he asked the waitress's recommendation. she recommended the bourbon pecan pie. when he got it, he told us it tasted so much like bourbon it was edible. we tried and agreed. when he brought it up to the waitress and asked if might be able to switch it out for something else, she told him "it's the gamble you take when you come here". needless to say that was the gamble she took with her tip. service is terrible here! don't go!!! there are way better places in charlotte.

great for breakfast!. 3.5 stars overall. i've been to dish for both dinner and breakfast, and i have to say i preferred their breakfast. the prices are very reasonable for how much food you get, and i enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere. but service can be attentive or not, depending on who is waiting on you. and the food can be hit or miss, depending on what you like.

dinner gets 3 stars. the black eyed pea hummus was an interesting concept, but the hummus was too thick to be able to scoop it out of the bowl with just a pita wedge - a fork was definitely needed here! it was also very filling.

their chicken and dumplings (made famous from an episode of diners, drive-ins, and dives) could have used more dumplings and less chicken. (i know, i'm probably the only person who would think that.) the gravy was quite thick, and i am not a fan of dark meat, so i probably won't get it again. their mac 'n cheese was quite good, though, as were their biscuits and deviled eggs.

my hubby is a real fan of salmon patties, and he liked their version. he also enjoyed their collards and squash casserole.

their breakfast is a real bargain, and the food was a notch above dinner, so i would give them 4 stars here. i had the downhome breakfast served with eggs, hash brown casserole or grits, bacon, sausage, or soy sausage, biscuit, and tea or coffee. everything was really good, and the hash brown casserole was a good choice over the grits (it was yummy!). and all this was just $5!

my hubby had the carolina country breakfast, which had both grits and the hash brown casserole, and also had a bowl of pepper gravy for $6.50. the gravy was peppery, just the right consistency, and really good on the biscuit and eggs.

we know we'll be back again soon for breakfast. even the coffee was strong enough to satisfy us. i only wish they would open earlier than 10am!

simply put, just really good food. neighborhood gem. the waiting staff is always extremely courteous. its hard not to notice such a diverse group of customers. there are just as many grandparents as there are hs and college kids. chicken & dumplings and the salmon patties leave me speechless every time. great place to go for down home food. they serve a deviled egg and biscuit with every meal, you cant go wrong!!!

dish is a funky spot in plaza midwood that turns out great food including wonderful vegetables. recently my mom and i had lunch here and truly enjoyed going meatless with the wide selection on the veggie menu. i particularly enjoyed the tomato soup and the green beans and the deviled egg and biscuit really added an extra touch. dish also has plenty of options for carnivores including burgers (veggie available), sandwiches such as fish, grilled eggplant and grilled pimento cheese, entrees like meatloaf, shrimp & grits and chicken & dumplings, a variety of salads and "south of the border" items like nachos, burritos and quesadillas. desserts are also offered including a wonderful sounding vanilla bourbon sweet potato pie - yum! i look forward to returning to dish again soon. in addition to lunch and dinner service, breakfast is also served on saturday from 10-3.
