chips ahoy cookie shake, the d.u.k.e., and chicken & waffles

so this is probably the best place we ate at in montreal. this chips ahoy cookie shake i had ordered for takeout barely lasted seeing the outside of this diner. it even had a chips ahoy cookie in it so that’s a plus, because cookies are the tits. this duke burger though. so big and good, especially being hungover from the night before. it was comprised of grilled flat iron steak, topped with cheddar & monterey jack, thick cut black forest bacon, fried onion strings, bbq mayo and a fried egg on a brioche bun. if you think that doesn’t sound good then you are stupid. the best burgers have a fried egg with yolk spilling out the sides, and this was no exception. the chicken and waffles were pretty decent too, had a nice sweet syrup on it and the waffles were nice and fluffy. chicken was aight, it’s just deep fried chicken.

thisdineris also a bar and looked quite nice inside. kind of a new school meets old school feel. it also had a patio so that’s a plus and the service was pretty good as well. kind’ve expensive but a place to go if you’re in the neighborhood.

i had been to deville dinerbar about 4 years ago, shortly after it first opened, and had liked it then. while staying at a nearby hotel this week, i thought my two colleagues might enjoy having dinner there. i had described it to them as an upscale, modern diner. all three of us enjoyed a very nice meal.

we started out with a couple of appetizers. the first was seoul food lettuce tacos, which was a tasty fusion of mexican and mostly korean flavours. i particularly liked the shiitake sesame salsa. the second dish was salt and pepper calamari. the peruvian aji roja sauce provided a pleasant sweet and tangy balance to the salt and pepper batter on the calamari.

a couple of us had the blackened cajun salmon, with just enough heat to make it enjoyable.

not your typicaldinerfare. that's a good thing.

great concept! the perfect merger between adinerand a bar. the decor really sums up the concept and adds to the experience.

although some say it is pricey, the food here is of great value for money. they have some original menu items and great salads. i have tried a few of their salads and the general tao salad as well as their macho salad are phenomenal. their burgers could use a little bit of improvement though. oh, and don't forget to try their fried pickles! they are delicious, with the perfect accompanying sauces.

epic!. funky, hip resto that plays on thedinertheme a bit. this is not mel'sdinerwhere you go for fried eggs and coffee with a hang-over. this is a cool, trendy resto smack in the middle of downtown on stanley btwn ste-catherine and de maisonneuve. don't expectdinerprices cuz it is not a diner. with a bar, dark lighting with purple chandeliers, staff in black and cool deco, do not expect to see flo. i read some reviews before coming so i had an idea what to order. the prime rib dip was like a rostbeef dip sandwich but a 1000 times better. the roll was like melt in your mouth butter, and the meat was omg tender. came with a side of skinny fries. cooked to perfection. i tried to have just 1 but they were incredible and i had to eat them all. meal was huge, so no need for an entre. sandwich was $20 +/- but certainly reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients and the size. dishes on the menu include quality ingredients like prime rib, lobster and shrimp, so the prices were totally reasonable considering what you got. my friend had the tuna taco which she loved. for desert i had the deville food cake. $14 sounds crazy, but it was not a slice of cake, it was actually a whole cake + a scoop of ice cream. could easily feed 3-4 people and was the best chocolate cake ever. at 6'4" and 230lbs, i am a big guy with an appetite to match, but it was the 1st time in 20yrs that i did not (could not) finish my desert. budget $40 per person with no alcohol and pace yourself cuz everything is huge. if you think $20 for such a sandwich is expensive, then go to mcdonald's for a mcribb. resto is not that big so going as a big group would not be advised. 2-4 people per table is just perfect. 100 feet from peel metro, and 25 feet from indoor parking (it is downtown, so expect downtown parking prices). over-all it was awesome. know what to expect and you will love it. i repeat, this is not mel's diner

all the comforts of an old timedinerin a posh, moderndinerwith hot pink lighting. i am a fan of a round table or in this case, a semi circle booth. it's comfortable and easy to have a conversation with everyone at the table. there is an up stairs as well as a terrace so lots of options when choosing seating.

gooddinerfood, lots of drink specials. deville truly is a "diner" and a "bar". it's a hip, young joint that seemed to be filled with locals from the university. i'm sure the drink specials bring them in - there really are a lot of choices and some really creative concoctions! but that's not all folks... they really do have a wide-ranging menu too that's also very creative. honestly, the burgers are interesting, but the hamburger meat itself is quite average to me. it's all about the extras and condiments with these burgers. i tried the fat cat burger which contains a bbq shortrib- i tried that alone and it was packed with flavor and had a nice crunchy exterior. you will get messy eating these burgers - just check out the pics for how huge they are - a normal person cannot unhinge their jaw to eat it. the appetizers and sides we had were spectacular. the philly cheesesteak rolls had the best seasoned and extremely tender beef inside while the cheese sauce had a beer cheese taste to it. the crunchy wrap on the outside really worked well. and the mac n cheese was very good too. loaded with cheese and had a slight sweetness to it. but the star of the show was dessert - the beignets. i will dream of these. came out super hot and fresh. sort of like donut holes rolled in cinnamon and powdered sugar - but wayyy better! and the sauces that come on the side were great - chocolate and caramel. can't decide which? have both at the same time! service was slow, but not abnormal for the area.

fun spot!. we stopped in because our hotel was right around the fun corner and it was a fun suprise! very cool concept to combine traditionaldinerstyle food in a cool locationn. great cocktails and fun bites. great service, great atmosphere and buzz. we sat at the bar and had a couple of apps:philly cheesecake spring rlls melt in your mouth, fried pickles (i love pickles - they are cut in potato chip style and easier to bite into than the typical log you get in most pubs) and the crispy mac and cheese wonton rolls....a-mazing, still think about them, they were soo yummy!! fun place to stop in have a few drinks after dinner or pre, would love to go back and enjoy a full meal!

a moderndinerthat had already won us over with its revamped tacos, sandwiches and burgers has just scored extra points with its "b-side" of the menu. deville is a great downtown destination for either a fun night of pub grub or otherwise a more balanced, well-rounded meal. five years later, this retro/chic hotspot is still delivering a finer touch of diner.

the purple-tinged nouveaudinerwas packed and buzzing early on during this brutally-cold friday evening.

the never-ending menu lists page after page of reinvented comfort food/diner classics such as steaks, burgers, deli sandwiches, desserts and shakes; most of which we have gotten familiar with – and vouch for – over the years.

deville is a great downtown destination for either a fun night of pub grub or otherwise a more balanced, well-rounded meal.

deville dinerbar definitely has some very creative menu items, and for the most part, they do deliver quite well. there were some moments when i felt that the food was a bit dry and heavy, but the style is americandinercooking, after all. and beware: you'll definitely leave the restaurant feeling like the michelin tire man, because that's how they roll in american diners.

while a part of deville’s concept is a throwback to the 1950’s, the real idea is to be able to fantasize an old diner’s transformation into present times, a 21st century makeover redefining the classicdinerinto something new and refreshing, yet still having the ability to allure people to a truly beloved and nostalgic era. while they do feature a jukebox, they allow you to download an app on your iphone specifically designed for deville and choose the music that’s played in the restaurant – a pretty neat idea that is sure to impress a crowd. equally as impressive is the pink neon lights that permeate the interior, creating a theme that goes as far as influencing the tablemats. the décor is very stylish, with chandelier inspired lights and semi circular black and white booths that give it a nice edge and make it a comfortable place to enjoy the food.

montreal must. on my most recent business trip to montreal last year, i asked the concierge at the omni hotel where i could find a good meal. she recommended i go around the corner to the new deville diner. i found out this place is great! the friendly greeting and service for starters and the excellent food(where it counts)! there is definitely a feeling you get when you are in the diner. great for everyday lunch or dinner with family and friends. please bring devilledinerto chicago. why is it that the only awesome retro americandineris in canada? keep up the good work. see you on my next trip.

we visited devilles for the first time based on positive feedback from some friends of mine that had previously eaten here. great atmosphere, awesome decor, and fine attention to detail. the food was awesome, fantastic mix of comfort food, dinerfood, and bar food. we started with the hot dog sliders, which were made with nathans dogs, out of this world !!! along with the philly cheese steaks, and onion brick all of which were very good. we attempted for our main course to share the "big guy" burger which is 4 patties of beef sandwiched between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches, it was amazing !!! way too much even for 2 people, but what a sight to see, standing in at over a foot tall !!!! to wash it all down, had to get the marshmallow nutella milkshake, awesome !!! dessert was just spectacular, we went for the beignets served with a carmel sauce and a nutella/brandy whipped cream, made fresh to order, and the banana cream pie, which is like no other i've ever tried. great experience, with great food, huge portions ... definitely worth a try !!!
