wonderful! i got agreatappetizer oaxacan chile relleno that was filled with goat cheese, fried with a flaky, crunchy batter and covered in green chili sauce and pumpkin seeds. be sure to order this! i got the mescal margarita which was yummy. not too tart. the loaded baked potato was ridiculously big but so tasty. my main course was just good- not great. i got the game steak. it was missing seasoning in the meat- the gravy was good though.

beer is yummy!! food was great!!!! music set agreatmood! def coming back!

not impressed!. interesting to read other comments about how poor the service was here! the service at this place was disgraceful, possibly the worst i've ever experienced!
in 25 minutes, i sat and waited, then went to the hostess and asked for a menu, then waited, then went back to the hostess to ask for service, then waited, then ordered a beer which never came, then ordered it again, then waited, then left.
dear owners, please take note: your service staff is killing your business.
aside from the non-existent service, the place was rundown and dirty. could use a good scrub, or a hose! and you may want to consider not allowing dogs in an establishment that serves food. there were 2 there during my "visit".
there are lots ofgreatplaces in santa fe to eat. give this one a pass!

come on people...this place has all natural beef for hamburgers and i had a delicious natural sirloin cooked perfect medium. it is only my second time to eat here but everyone i was with enjoyed their meal. the sirloin i had came on a bed of caramelized onions and with a roasted green chili on top. service was great. one of my dining companions i was with said the gumbo was better than what she had in new orleans. besides where are you gonna go at 11:00 pm on a thursday for somegreatnosh. so lighten up on the cowgirl and enjoy it for what it is.

bad cow girls!!. i have tried eating at cow girls exactly three times since 2007 while visiting, then a second time visiting and most recent a third time after moving to santa fe. each and every time i found the food to be among the most horrid, bland, mediocre, ill prepared foods i think i have ever had at any establishment i have been to and we go out to eat agreatdeal of the time, probably 90% of our meals are taken out? i ordered the babyback ribs and a side salad with ranch dressing. beans and a veggie came on the side. the ribs were posibly the worst prepared, worst bbq sauce i have ever tasted? they had been smoked or cooked until the meat was mushy, and fell apart with a fork, (not in a good way) the bbq sauce was bland, tasteless and almost un-ettable? the entire entree was cold and tasted terrible. even the side salad was bad, lettuce wilted and too much onion and other junk on top along with a very cheap quality ranch dressing, (probably from some restaurant supply house?) i cannot recall one item i found even good. it was so bad i called for a manager and sent it back, (something i almost never have done before) the manager did deduct the un-eaten meal from our check and offered to get me something else, my appetite was gone by then and i just waited for breakfast to eat again. this place calls itself a bbq joint? if they did not have a liquer license i suspect they would not remain in business for very long on the merits of their food? its basically a pool hall hangout for the younger crowd and holligans? the place across the street, "whole hogg" is far, far better if you want bbq, even then they are not perfect, but way better than cowgirls bbq?

food and service were finely me. very friendly waiter and agreatshrimp tamale= happy diner. the music was awful but one cannot expect much from random local acts.

the cowgirl burger.....wow. the best burger i have ever laid my teeth into. i live in albuquerque but will drive here just to eat this burger. place was unique, cozy, andgreatfood. if you are a burger person, this place is a must. it was a black angus burger, juicy, cooked to medium perfection and nothing but yum, yum, yum!

gluten free bbq. the chef has celiac and one of the owner's daughters is gluten sensitive so the kitchen and waitstaff were very good about knowing what was in everything. the bbq and jerk sauces were gluten free and fantastic. everything was very good though how hot things were was not always accurately labeled. we had a fantastic time.

a few notes though. this place has the reputation of being child-friendly and i would not say it is. my kids had agreattime but that was because we hit it off with the owner and his family. at night, this is a loud and rowdy place (i went there without my kids another time to drink so don't think this was just because we were there on new years eve). also, we had reservations and were first seated in the bar area in front of a door to an outside area where people were smoking. when we asked for a different table because it was freezing and loud and smoky, the waitress was a total bitch. i had to go to the hostess and complain strongly. we were then moved to an appropriate place. but it was still on the way to the pool room and my ten year old had something odd said to him by an obviously intoxicated person. so, no, not kid-friendly for dinner.

our second wait person was quite good, though i think our having clearly bonded with the owner during our meal helped assure good service.

all in all, fantastic food and agreatrelief to those with gluten and dairy limitations. but loud.

we had a second dinner a few nights later. this time we were brought immediately to a dining room far from both the bar and the pool hall with other families. our waitress was the nasty one from our first night. she clearly recognized us and was on her very best behavior. the food was again fantastic. so i would modify my statement about the restaurant not being kid-friendly. as long as it isn't new years eve and are not seated anywhere near the bar (which was still quite loud the second night, particularly after the live music started).

giddy up!. good food &greatatmosphere. live music - i am not sure if is was scheduled or just some guys who happened to have their guitars...either way it was fun.greatplace to take a break, kick back, & watch santa fe flow by.

a local landmark. this is classic local santa fe with the best casual atmosphere and consistantlygreatfood. one of our favorites is the game burger on agreatsalad--an atkin's dieter's dream. good basic red wine. quintessential santa fe.

great beef dishes! live music.. at scheduled times, they have live music, but, sometimes, a patron will pull out his or her guitar and play. the ambiance isgreatand their portions of food and drinks are huge! if you're a veggie, you'll find beans and alternative dishes, e.g., artichokes, but they are known for their beef.

bad service, bad food. i've been to this restaurant twice and both times the food was not thatgreatand over priced for what it was. and service was pretty bad as well. very slow and unfriendly servers.
