chubby's tacos

a bravo . everything goodfood,prices,employees, and clean restaurant. a delight to visit. they give good portions on the plate. and parking is not a problem.

a unique little dive that never disappoints as far as thefoodis concerned. the place could be a little tidier, but there is such a turn over of diners  that i'm sure it is hard to keep up with. the cost is very reasonable and the salsa bar is my favorite feature.

quick and good. we love this little "hole in the wall". don't let this small and dark place make you leave. we go to this location at least 3/month and we would go more if it wasn'the so far away. you have to order at the counter and they will bring thefoodto you. most of the items are bought individeally but combos are available. chips are all you eat and there's a large salsa bar. we like the tacos overy the burritos because you can have a few different ones. each taco is generous with the toppings so we just order two each. we've tried most of the tacos but continually go back to the same ones. we do prefer the tacos on flour rather than corn, but you'll have to request the flour. no extra charge and the tacos tasteuch better. my husband likes the carnitas and baja shrimp tacos. he asks for lime and squeezes it ovet his shrimp. the baja shrimp are breaded and fried. i like al pastor (pork chunks and pineapples with a bit of spicy sauce) and grilled tilapia (a generous piece). this place is very busy and if the tables are full, they should open up when you order, because the service is fast. so for under $20.00, we get 2 drinks, 4 tacos, all you can eat chips with salsa, and plantains (without the sauce.) we have always had great and fulfilling food, and good and fast service.

love this place!. i can not think of a better low end mexican restaurant! a real guilty pleasurefoodis great!

meh. nothing special.. people rave about this place. it's nothing special. it has a great salsa bar, but i think you have to have an emotional attachment to think thefoodis great. it's just a taco and burrito bar.

hands down the best mexican restaurant. the tacos are delicious. the salsa are delicious. i have introduced many mexicanfoodsnobs to chubby's and they all melt when they taste the food.

excellent. this is so much better than el dorado, rancherita, tres mageuys and all the other local chains. thefoodis fresh, full of flavor. the staff are friendly. the atmosphere reminds me of places i used to eat at in dallas, phoenix and la. this place is what mexicanfoodis about!

good food, interesting crowd, friendly staff and a cool interior make this a top mexican eatery in the area.

absolutely wonderfulfood& great prices! my only complaint is that there aren't enough tables for the huge crowds. consider getting takeout.

chubby's in north raleigh!. my tacos were perfect. the carnitas taco was light and fresh with a nice balance of cilantro and lime juice. the shrimp taco was marvelous with the chipotle sour cream adding a nice counterpoint the shrimp and tomatoes. her imperial majesty's burrito was a massively over-stuffed thing that we - meaning both of us - could only manage to finish half. it was delicious with the spicy tinga nicely complemented by the crispy lettuce and the just wilted spinach. in retrospect, we probably should have approached it with a knife and fork.

just like the other locations, thefoodwas well prepared, relatively cheap and quite tasty. service was swift. is it an asset to north raleigh? yes. is it a reason to visit north raleigh? only if our chubby's is closer than yours. will it make north raleigh fashionable? no, but it's a heck of a start.

goodfoodand selection.. i had to update my original review of chubby's. originally i was quite pleased with the vegetarian selection. as time went on, however, i have found that the allure of this place has worn off. i've found that their vegetarian fillings are a bit oily for my taste and haven't been back in a while. when out in rtp i used to go to the chubby's out there, but now i go over to screaming coyote just across the street. i might go back to chubby's in the future to see i still feel the same, but then again i might not.

pretty darn good. just went today for the first time and really enjoyed the atmosphere and service. thefoodwas fantastic and the salsa bar is kept up really well- full and fresh. also- had fun sitting at the bar watching the large flour tortillas for burritos being made. had the chicken tinga taco which was very nice and the barbacoa taco- which was not my favorite barbacoa (can't beat la vaquita here) but definitely good.

fantastic. i had the pleasure of trying chubby's for the first time at the grand opening of the new museum of art--- all i can say is wow!
i love tacos, and not the hard shell kind you find at thefoodlion, nor the soft shell taco bell--- but real streetfoodfrom the taquerias del mexico--- feliciataciones!!! nice job, chubby's! this is the best mexicanfoodin raleigh. muchas gracias.

yes.. i just discovered chubby's a couple of months ago. nothing fancy, just really goodfoodand a great value. my favorite taco bar in raleigh, so many choices....

really enjoyed the tilapia and shrimp tacos as well as the barbacoa and carnitas burritos (ok, one time the barbacoa was a little dry...but the next time it was outstanding). the salsa bar is excellent, the staff very friendly and accommodating...and the pre-mixed margarita's are surprisingly good. "make it a meal for $2" (additional) and you are guaranteed to not leave hungry.

what a cool place, especially in this challenging economy.
