what more can one ask for than an 'high tea' meetup that turns out to be more of a wine and snack tasting afternoon.
this was really a great way to end my week and the chelsea village courtyard was just the rightsettingtoo. the atmosphere is relaxed and homey, with a lot of plants and flowers giving it a somewhat tranquil and fresh feel. we were welcomed by champagne and a team of exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. the first 'course' of our afternoon tea consisted of a freshly baked baguette from stellenbosch's own schoon de companje bakery with a choice of thai green curry mayo and moroccan coriander pesto mayo. the bread was of course delicious, but the dipping sauces were out of this world!! they're homemade, fresh, and i feel like everyone should have some of these sauces in their fridge.
next, we decided to share a brie, tomato and beetroot chutney sandwich, a 'frenchie' toasted sandwich, the ny cheesecake, and the flourless chocolate cake. all were tasty, but the sandwiches definitely stood out for me. more specifically, it was the beetroot chutney one that really won me over. flavourful and interesting, this dish is comfort food at its best. paired with wines by delaire and waterkloof, these dishes were just perfect for a light afternoon snack. overall, a lovely and very relaxing afternoon.
