in no particular order;  * parking  -  woefully insufficient* venue  - quaint , friendly and welcoming* staff  - pleasant , friendly and attentive *food-  we shared a lunch time seafood platter for 2 , it was underwhelming at best.  it took way too long, was overcooked, dry fish, insipid mussels, tasteless oily calamari... yuk.  we live next to the ocean, fresh mussels delivered to ct twice a week , why use frozen seafood ?  the fries were great and the lemon butter side sauce was superb.
major gripe .. box wine ??  really? we live in one of the best wine areas in the world.
this place has the potential to be a helderberg drawcard , and worth another try in the future , right now , you can do better in many within 1km radius.  step up folks!

what more can one ask for than an 'high tea' meetup that turns out to be more of a wine and snack tasting afternoon.
this was really a great way to end my week and the chelsea village courtyard was just the right setting too. the atmosphere is relaxed and homey, with a lot of plants and flowers giving it a somewhat tranquil and fresh feel. we were welcomed by champagne and a team of exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. the first 'course' of our afternoon tea consisted of a freshly baked baguette from stellenbosch's own schoon de companje bakery with a choice of thai green curry mayo and moroccan coriander pesto mayo. the bread was of course delicious, but the dipping sauces were out of this world!! they're homemade, fresh, and i feel like everyone should have some of these sauces in their fridge.
next, we decided to share a brie, tomato and beetroot chutney sandwich, a 'frenchie' toasted sandwich, the ny cheesecake, and the flourless chocolate cake. all were tasty, but the sandwiches definitely stood out for me. more specifically, it was the beetroot chutney one that really won me over. flavourful and interesting, this dish is comfortfoodat its best. paired with wines by delaire and waterkloof, these dishes were just perfect for a light afternoon snack. overall, a lovely and very relaxing afternoon.

we had a snacks and tea (wine) foodie meetup at chelsea café, and it truly was the perfect setting for a homey and somewhat girly afternoon. the café is beautifully decorated, with treats and pastries strategically placed around the restaurant to make anyone salivate upon arrival. to start off, we had some freshly baked baguette from schoon de companje bakery, served with a choice of thai green curry mayo and moroccan coriander pesto mayo. not taking anything away from the actualfoodto follow, but this was possibly my favourite part- if you find yourself stopping by, you have to try these dipping sauces. so delicious and home made! we then shared a few different savory and sweet dishes, namely, a brie, beetroot and tomato toastie, a "frenchy" with ham and melted cheddar (to die for), flourless chocolate cake and lastly, the ny baked cheesecake. the dishes were simple but tasty, with my only disappointment being the flourless chocolate cake. the meals were enjoyed with a choice of incredible wines from waterkloof and delaire.

chelsea cafe hosted a zomato meet up today and thefoodwas delicious, starting off with some local fresh sourdough, moroccan pesto and thai green curry mayo. this was followed by a toasted samie on fresh rye, also known as the 'frenchie' covered in delicious mornay sauce, ham, and healeys cheddar sprinkled with micro herbs. the quaint, fresh, airy cafe along with some good wine, yummy food, and great company ended up totaling into a brilliant day. everything from the hand written menus to the rose petals on the tables and the perfect red capp to finish off made the experience what it was. danica astra prout-jones

chelsea bean cafe, where have you been all my life and can we be best friends from now on?

i've been to this stunning restaurant twice now, and both times i have been blown away! from the beautiful setting to the gorgeous food, it's no surprise this one cute little granny spends most of her days there (the owner mentioned this - i'm not a creep)

on my first visit i tried out their chicken malay curry with cauliflower rice. my word! spot on absolute perfection. and paired with a little jar of their beetroot chutney - i left no evidence of a meal ever touching the bowl or jar.

second time round was with my zomato family for a meetup. starter was a cauliflower soup, main was the burger stack salad, and pudding was a slice of carrot cake. incredible! the soup was smooth and subtle but still so flavoursome. the burger stack salad was the perfect combination of healthy, fresh veggies with a tasty homemade patty drizzled with a vinegarette - the only negative was that the patty was a bit dense and overdone for my liking. and finally, the carrot cake. no words.

chelsea bean cafe is without a doubt a spot worth visiting. if the decor isn't enough to win you over, i guarantee the incrediblefoodand service will make sure you come back for more.

absolutely fell inlove with chelsea bean cafe. i was lucky enough to be invited to the zomato foodie meetup and with a table full of ladies and a delicious bottle of bubbly, the weekend was off to a fabulous start. thefoodis fresh and as organic as possible making thefoodhealthy and yummy. we started off with a delicate cauliflower soup, moved on to a choice of mains, i had the oxtail jus which reminded me of home and filled my soul with fuzzy feelings. the dessert.... as a sweet addict, the choice was beyond difficult... in other words i picked off of everyone's plates to try all the treats on offer. i had, however, chosen the chocolate torte which stole my taste buds and took them to heaven. overall, the setting is beautiful and compliments the menu perfectly.

i love chelsea cafe! they follow a wholesome philosophy of preparing simplefoodwith top-quality ingredients - which you can really taste in each dish. we were treated to the most divine cauliflower soup to start, with fresh ciabatta on the side (from schoon de companje, my absolute favourite bakery at the moment). i chose the caesar salad as my main, and i have to say it was one of the best i've ever had. loads of shredded chicken, anchovies, and a gooey poached egg on top = perfection. paired with graham beck rose, this went down a treat on a lazy friday afternoon. we finished off the meal with something sweet: i chose the carrot cake, which was delicious, and of course i snuck a taste of some of the other desserts too - my heart melts for the gluten-free chocolate torte. (which also literally melts in your mouth). although we were there for a #zomatomeetup, i've popped into chelsea before and had the most amazing lamb curry of my life - a dish you have to try when you visit. and i say "when", not "if", because it's only a matter of time before end up coming here every weekend.

i'm not one to miss my lectures, but when dominique andrea vieira invited me to this #zomatomeetup, it was an opportunity i simply couldn't miss... and it could not have been more worth it! chelsea bean café is a gorgeous little setup tucked away on bright street, and our table was specially set up in their open-plan, farmstyle seating area decorated with straw hanging from the window ceiling and firewood sitting in neat piles on the brick floor. stunning.

our farm-to-fork brunch began with a glass (or two) of bubbly each while the wonderful owner, francine, sat with us for some chit chat. she let us in on her healthy, fresh vision for chelsea bean as well as on some awesome cooking tips! first up was a cauliflower soup served with fresh artisan bread. the soup was rich and creamy so the little bowls were the perfect size! deciding on what main dish to order was so difficult! bombarded with options like a thai green lettuce wrap, eggs & baconnaise and an open lentil sandwich, we all struggled to make a choice!

i opted for the burger stack salad... which was honestly a stack of yumminess! the presentation was enough to get my tastebuds tingling but the taste and flavours took it to a whole new level! unfortunately, my beef patty was quite tough which was a bit of a disappointment but the complimentary flavours of the sautéed mushrooms and homemade coleslaw made it all delicious anyway! never mind that we were each also treated to a glass of wine to wash down the indulgence! winning!

to end off a stunning meal, one must simply have a cappuccino. i could taste that it was made with love and quality coffee!! if this wasn't enough, we got to choose a sweet treat from francine's favourites, and her description of the carrot cake made it irresistible not to go for! the cake was moist and fresh and was frosted with cream cheese using of perfect consistency👌🏼🍰

i was incredibly impressed with the all round high quality of this gorgeous little place, from thefoodto the ambience to the service to the set up- we were treated wonderfully and i walked out with a big smile and a full tummy!

moral of the story- if you're passing through somerset west, make a stop at chelsea bean!!💃🏼🍴❤️

this beautiful restaurant in somerset west makes you feel like you are eating in a green house. all thefoodis preservative free, and packed with the most delicious vegetables (a burger stack anyone). you sit amongst the plants and are kept warm by a fire.

we were treated to a 3 course meal starting off with a tall glasses of bubbly, followed by creamy cauliflower soup (try it! try it! try it!). i opted for egg and baconnaise (i mean how can resist something called baconnaise??) paired with graham becks "gorgeous" pinot noir chardonnay. i rounded of the meal with their traditional homemade milktart and coffee - the perfect end to a great meal.

the service was great! the owner fran was an absolute pleasure to talk to. would definitely take the family there or a group of friends for some cake and tea (of which they have the most decadent variety).

i was invited to the launch of an amazing little place called the chelsea bean, in somerset west. this is one of those places that is sort of tucked away, and if you didn’t know it was there you probably wouldn’t stumble upon it – but that is sort of what makes it so great. the chelsea bean is all about farm-to-table style fresh produce and the contents of their on-the-go menu are as delicious as they are wholesome. if you happen to be in the stellenbosch or somerset west it is most definitely worth the trip, and i can’t wait to go back. those people who know me know i love a good waffle (the real thing as well as the not-so-literal meaning of the word), but in this case i really have to let thefoodand pictures of the tasting market speak for themselves.

expensive? nope.
go there for: a breakfast of screamy eggs, toasties on rye or a lunch harvest table from 12:30-14:00 and delicious coffee, treats and wine. plan to spend a little extra on their retail products like home-made mayo, chilli jam or granola.
