charlie & jake's bar-b-que

beach side charlie and jakes is not the same. i have to say my last experience at charlie and jakes on beachside was terrible.
the ribs were tuff,,not falling off the bone like it use to be.. the rub they used was to spicy hot
the beans tasted like campbell.s pork and beans with some of there pulled pork in it.
there chicken was dry. what happened?
i use to go frequently. but since it has been under new ownership he has changed everything that made charlie and jakes great!
what happened to charlie and jakes when you couldn't even get in the door. you need to get that back and go back to basis.

great food and always consistent. taylor took great care of us!

taylor gave us awesome service and the food was good too! we will become regular patrons.

i wanted to love this place. i do enjoy eating at the charlie and jakes on wickham, but this one is closer to home. different owner, but the same name. ever since gators closed, i wanted someone to come into this location and replace what was a great place to eat. it hadn’t happened yet, but i had high hopes for this new restaurant. so we went there this evening. because the restaurant was rather cold inside, we decided to sit at a high-top in the outside bar area. our first impression was of a foul odor, like you would smell from sewer gases. not sure if it originates from the restaurant or from nearby, but it was pretty constant throughout our meal. my husband ordered a beer and i ordered a glass of wine. now, i order wine in every restaurant we go to, and the amount served varies from place to place, but most places used to pour 6 ounces, and today, many pour about 5 ounces. tonight i was served about 3.5 ounces, maybe 4. i will say it was 4, and i paid $9 for it. unusual, considering the price. it wasn’t anything special. as for dinner, my husband ordered a combo of bbq and i ordered a salad with fried chicken. his meal was acceptable. mine was not. i had a metal bowl with very dark green romaine, a pile of huge, and i mean huge, wedges of partially ripe tomatoes, and about half a pound of shredded cheese. mixed in were a few bits of fried chicken. it was almost impossible to see the actual chicken…inside the coating it ranged from non-existent to about 1/3 of an inch thick. i though it must be a joke. i often order this kind of salad. the charlie and jakes on wickham has an awesome one with lots of chicken, eggs, diced tomatoes, bacon, etc. and texas roadhouse, right across the street, is fabulous, too. i could not believe i was charged $11 for this meal. the wait staff was good. they asked if we enjoyed the meal and we were honest with them. it was not their fault and we told them so. well…we tried this place…we hoped to like it a lot…we didn’t and, we will never go there again. next time, texas roadhouse. yum.

new place opened across the street from old place.  too big, very loud.  not vegetarian-friendly at all.  the only thing i could eat non-meat was the shrimp which was way too fried and took way too long to come out.  ok i get it this is a barbeque place and there's lots of meat but when you are w/ a group there's bound to be a vegetarian.  take note charlie n jakes !!  i won't be back if the menu does not change and the service does not speed it up.

enjoyable experience. really enjoyed this restaurant. service, food, and atmosphere were all enjoyable. had the combo plate and although all of my selections were really good i felt like the portions were small for the price.

great food and wonderful service. my husband and i had a wonderful meal of pulled pork, green beans and sweet potatoes. yum. hannah was so very attentive to us, super pleasant and "cute as a
button", as is said. would highly recommend this local gem of a restaurant.

weary wonderland. just finished moving into our new place. we took a break at jake's & charlie's and what a smart choice. service was spit on, food was excellent and the beer was ice cold and at a great special price.

i think we found our new hangout...

great meat!. vacationing from new england. wanted to try a little bit of everything . got the mini combo with pulled pork, ribs and pulled turkey. loved the pork and ribs.. turkey was good but a bit to fatty for my taste. hush puppies ... yum! homemade baked beans delicious! will def come back 1 more time before heading home.

amazing bbq! huge portions of tender, mouth watering smoked meats! try the smoked prime rib on thursday night's - it's insane...know what i'm sayin!

good bbq and good prices. nothing more, nothing less.

i stopped here on my way home from the beach and got a pulled pork sandwich which was delicious but not quite as good as my waitress erin she was the sweetest girl and made sure everything was to my liking and she had the prettiest big blue eyes and i really enjoyed her as my server and i look forward to coming next time!

the best. i live only right down the street so this place is a must! last time i was in i had a server named elizabeth. she didn't miss a beat. i recommend this place.

everytime i come i get the pulled pork sandwich and that's just simply because its the best. get stephanie as your server and you won't be dissapointed.

awesome. fantastic food awesome service best bbq on the beach. ate there couple weeks ago had a server named lindsey, great service got my good fast best smoked meat around i suggest it to everyone
