they have a new chef now and a seasonal fresh menu and the food is fantastic and theserviceis unbelievable great experience every time

wonderful!. i was taken to char on my birthday tuesday and had a great experience! starting with a top shelf margarita and fried crab claws leading to the original cowboy ribeye (cooked perfectly) and chicken piccata. our waitress was on top of everything from start to finish, ending with a surprise dessert (pecan caramel butter crunch) from our server! excellentserviceand superb food! truly one of my favorite spots in jackson.

my experience at char was incredible!! the atmosphere is great, the food was great and theservicewas even better! i had the pecan encrusted fish which was out of this world!! my server was very personable and friendly and had a very genuine concern that my experience was great! always ask for krysta! one of the best servers i've ever had!

simply put, i won’t be back. this was my first visit to char and i wasn’t impressed. compared to most fancy restaurants i’ve been to lately, the “free” bread was unimpressive. the meal was way too expensive for the small portions. theservicewas mediocre especially considering the price.

on the plus side, appetizers of gumbo and shrimp cocktail were good. the “special” of redfish was a small portion of slightly overcooked fish for $32 (more than any fish dish on the menu). also ordered was duck that was tough and chewy.

i really wanted dessert because #1 i was still hungry and #2 i wanted to see what a $10 piece of chocolate cake looked like. but char already had too much of my money so i left and had dessert elsewhere.

we enjoyed it. we went to char for the first time friday night and really enjoyed it. i had heard the bar could be a little loud but we were fine with our seating. not loud at all and theserviceand the food was fantastic. after crab claws we both had filets and finished off with a great apple crunch cake with ice cream. our first visit was fun and we will definitely be back. our bottle of wine was great and really lifted our spirits after a long work week.

dinner at chat tonight was great. as usual the bone-in cowboy ribeye is awesome. fried green tomato appetizer on a bed of arugula salad with shrimps was delicious and the gumbo was great. what more can i say? place is clean, relaxing atmosphere andservicestaff are well groomed, neatly dress with clean uniforms. a good place to go for a relaxing dinner in jackson mississippi

char always does a great job. whenever i want to impress a guest i always choose char. their food is consistently excellent and they have the best wait staff in jackson.

i love this place. it has recently become my favorite place to eat. the steaks and fish are the best you can find, the wine list is impressive and theserviceis top notch.

great food, deplorable service. i understand a busy day andservicecan be off from time to time. i had a great pork roll stuffed with pork for lunch it was great, moist and really something different, the collard were spot on.

i returned on another night and got the filet and it was perfectly cooked, but theservicewas horrid, jacob was just bad, rude, and had a chip on his shoulder. it was a good and fast way to ruin a good steak.

i really like the chocolate cake!

sunday menu is awesome! i love the new additions to lunch on sunday. it's a little heavy for everyday, but isn't most southern food? we've been back to back sundays and have yet to be disappointed.

i love this place. it really is relaxing especially when they're not really busy. our faves are spinach crisp, tuna melt, burger, beefeater, sin city bbq shrimp and of course their pecan pie! yum! we've had other things but these ate always great and really affordable, even for those on a modest budget.

really good. i'm soooo glad they brought the tuna melt back, it was always our favorite. we sat in bar area so ourservicefrom jason was great. we really missed coming here, i'm glad they are finally doing better.

char's service, for starter's is impeccable. personalable wait-staff with back waiter-your glass is never empty. not in your face, but there when you need them.

char has really stepped up their game lately. allen brosd. steaks cooked to order in their new 1800 degree broiler rather than the hardwood fire of old. melt in your m,outh aged butteriess to steraks dry-aged 40 days. super selection of sides and fresh fish flown in daily. sumptuous desserts.

local, location & love it!. char is now under the ownership of its long-time manager david joseph, executive chef schramkowsk and nashville-based amerigo manager doug hogrefe.

also back are the local high-quality vendors for beef and meats, fresh fish flown in daily and break baked especially for char by broad street bakery.

a new energy has hit the restaurant as locals have flocked back to one of jackson's most popular eateries.

my fiancee and i recently had a stupendous dinner the night of a recent book signing by mystery greats elmore leonard and michael connelly..

we shared the incomparable flash-fried crab claws, an iceberg wedge with bleu cheese and the western dry-aged sirloin strip. magnificent!

theservicewas a+. our server was david, who is as near perfect a waiter as the come.

move over palm. char is back!

nice brunch. enjoyed char for the first time last weekend! had a late lunch/brunch on sunday. the food andservicewas very nice. we had a group of 20+ and they totally took care of us! would definitely recommend char!

worth it! greatservice(except for the elderly snooty hostess)! yummy food!. my husband and i visited char for lunch one day and it was definitely worth it! i got the pecan chicken with garlic grits and stuffing with gravy. the pecan chicken was good, the stuffing yummy, but the grits were rather bland to me. loved the little french breads with butter! my husband tried the seafood gumbo and loved it. his meal was shrimp and grits which he replied the shrimp were fresh and very well prepared (not rubbery or raw) ...perfectly done. the sauce was delicious, not overpowering and mixed well with his garlic grits. theservicewas outstanding, although the elderly female hostess was rather snooty and gave a poor first impression...rather made us feel as if we were not "good enough" for her little establishment. other than that snooty chic, char is pricey, but well worth it.

my first char experience was overall great! with the exception of the rude hostess on the phone when i called to get the lunch hours. as the manager of a fine dining restaurant, i observe everything about the restaurant in which i dine.. first,servicewas quick, friendly, and to the point. we (my girlfriend and i) were offered a couple of the days specials. i had one, the scallop special while crystal had the sin-city shrimp.. both were perfectly portioned for lunch and the taste was superb. someone in the kitchen cares! we also learned that a few of the desserts come in "2$ bite" sizes, which is a novel idea. we tried all three that came in that size as sort of a sampler. our favorite was the pecan pie, but all three were good.. the praline ice cream stood out to me as well.. try char, i wouldn't suggest calling tho, the young lady on the phone just wasn't up to par.
