char restaurant

great service, high end dining. great atmosphere,goodfor a special occasion dinner. ordered fish, which wasgoodbut not incredible. appetizers and desserts were great, husband and father were impressed and it was a great dinner out!

i love agoodbenedict. the southern benny isgoodin concept but i think the execution was a little off that day. it was more than a little burnt. we would go back though.

good steak ... thats's all. started off with the wedge salad. it hadgoodflavor until i got to the bitter core of the lettuce. they need to remove the core. the steak, a rib eye was very tender, but a little over cooked. the side which was asparagus and mushroom au gratin had a lot to be desired. it was small ... maybe a 1/4 cup and was basically asparagus (all stem) a few mushrooms and shredded cheese on top and heated in the oven. go for the steak, but avoid everything else.

never can get into it.. last night was my third or fourth time going to char. i'll provide a pretty brief rundown of the evening.

i was there to meet a friend and her mother, who ordered the grilled chicken and the ribeye respectively, as well as an appetizer (the spinach crisp) and a cup of the black bean chilli. i ordered the black and bleu salad.

the black bean chilli wasgoodbut over salted. my salad was over dressed and the accoutrement of cheese and walnuts had settled down at the bottom of my plate. i had a disappointing amount of steak on top. my company's meals fared better as the chicken was verygoodand the steak was great.

which is the overall problem i have with char.

i've had their strip, ribeye, and filet. all incredibly good. char does steak well. it's everything else that i find lacking and keeps me from taking the restaurant "seriously".

like my friend, i'd bring my mother (or father) to char, but if i'm aiming to impress, or treating myself, i'll get dinner, and maybe even steak, some where else.

dinner at chat tonight was great. as usual the bone-in cowboy ribeye is awesome. fried green tomato appetizer on a bed of arugula salad with shrimps was delicious and the gumbo was great. what more can i say? place is clean, relaxing atmosphere and service staff are well groomed, neatly dress with clean uniforms. agoodplace to go for a relaxing dinner in jackson mississippi

very nice. every time i go to this restaurant i am always satisfied with the service and food. can you tell i frequent this restaurant? i never had a bad service or food in this restaurant

i just love this place. been there tons of times and i am never disappointed. i really love the jazz brunch on sundays. the food has beengoodevery time i've been there and truly spectacular on many occasions. i really love taking clients there for lunch. it is a great place for a business lunch. i will be back again sometime real soon.

great food, deplorable service. i understand a busy day and service can be off from time to time. i had a great pork roll stuffed with pork for lunch it was great, moist and really something different, the collard were spot on.

i returned on another night and got the filet and it was perfectly cooked, but the service was horrid, jacob was just bad, rude, and had a chip on his shoulder. it was agoodand fast way to ruin agoodsteak.

i really like the chocolate cake!

a+!. the bread loaf ahi tuna steak was excellent. at first intold the waitress i ordered the tuna, thinking theynjust served me a 16oz. filet. they assured me it was the tuna, and when i cut into it, you could see the freshness of fish. the horseradish mashed potatoes were so good, i try to make them regularly at home. nice atmosphere, great service,goodwine selection.

i enjoyed it,goodexperience, prices were reasonable, my only concern is the new chef is a bit too farm to table for the taste of some of the regulars. again, i liked it though, not everything needs to be coated in salt!

downward spiral.... char used to be one of my favorite spots when in jackson. the last few visits have been very disappointing. i understand that there has a been a change in management and head chefs.

the menu has been revamped, and some of my favorites are missing. i can live with that. but i stopped in for a light dinner last week and decided to have a salad and crab cakes. soooo disappointing! the salad was comprised mostly of iceberg lettuce (really?) and what tasted like bottled dressing. the crab cakes weregoodand mostly lump crab meat, but the taste (to me) was just "ok". it just seems that char is acting like one of those national chains, and that ain't good!

good but, dissappointed. i had the privilege of trying out the new menu at char this evening. the brussel sprouts were reallygoodand pungent! i was saddend to see that my favorite, the asparagus au gratin, was taken of the menu. also, i'd like to see the steak toppings back again (i.e. lump crab, shrimp and bernaise sauce). too many pork and corn dishes for our liking :(

agoodlunch. riding early and not as far to get to jackson i was able to enjoy a rare thing, namely a lunch that was not "on the road".
this is a nice place and while i'd have liked to sample the dinner menu to see how the steak stacked up to those back home in cowtown i was happy do something different today.
i ordered the crab claws and the steak and bleu salad.
the claws were a nice treat and i wish i'd had more of them. the sauce was nothing to write home about but on the whole i enjoyed this appie.
the salad was a mix of greens, pecans, onion and red pepper with tender beef covered with bleu cheese and a light fruity dressing. i found the flavours worked well and while not the salad to end all salads this is something i'm going to try and replicate at home.
the staff was not asgoodas i'd like but certainly average for many places i've dined.
finishing with my favourite dessert, namely pecan pie which was fairlygoodi left pleased with this recommendation and thinking of perhaps giving salads more chances.

char. great restaurant with a great atmosphere. goodfood -- to die for desserts. pricey, but worth it!!
