the fried chicken, catfish, and hush puppies were perfectly cooked (and tasted great). jennifer, out server, was appropriately friendly and attentive.

good stuff. the chicken here is really good with it's distinct and unique coating. the sides and sweet tea are really good as well. my only complaint would be they need to relocate to a bigger building because this one is too cramped!

good chicken.. the chicken here was very good and was indeed moist though out. the crust on the chicken was thinking that crispy / salty type that is made in a deep fryer. as other said the beans were good we with some onion thrown in...for me the slaw was mediocre and i too would suggest some other sides. this place is pretty tight in size so beware if you want to have any private conversation. price for quality was very good.

so good. this year we got a family meal which fed us all. madi loved her chicken legs. ha. and for dinner we went downtown to lupi's pizza. yum. we got a pepperoni and sausage which was yummy. a medium style hand tossed pizza crust. tangy sauce and amazing chunks of sausage.

a "must stop". if we are heading through or stopping for the night. this is a must for us. this time around we had the kiddos with us and it was still amazing. great food, spicy chicken (my 4 year old loved it, so not too hot) and the sides are all amazing. not too noisy even when crowded. my biggest complaint is they could use some new chairs. ha.

i have a 9 month old too and high chairs were easy to get. they offer family meals on the menu and i think that helped us a lot (no kid menu). but, you get enough food for you all at a good price. i think about $25 covered it all. yum. stop and love it.

disappointing. we visited champy's on sunday night, february 16, 2014. our server, christy, was the only bright spot in our visit. we sat down a few minutes after seven, ordering sweet tea for my wife and yuengling for me. we decided to try the fried green tomato appetizer, and for our main course order breast and wing for me and three wings for my wife. the drinks were served quickly, and i noticed i slightly musty taste to my beer. before i could think about it too much the fried green tomatoes were served.
the fried tomatoes, were good (really reminiscent of the fried wurzburg pickles served at the brewhaus), but the champy's sauce was nothing special.
and then we waited about 30 minutes for the mains. a long 30 minutes, the wait staff were obviously busy, refilling ice teas and taking garbage out, so it wasn't an inefficient wait staff. finally the main dishes arrived, and at the same time my second glass of yuengling. the musty taste was if anything more pronounced. so it wasn't a dirty glass, more likely a moldy tap.
the chicken pieces were huge, and piping hot; that was the positive. the chicken was very greasy, my wife described it as, "slimy." it was over seasoned, and cooked fully through in deep fat , hence the piping hot. it compares poorly against hair of the dog's fried chicken, bilo's fried chicken, heck even kfc has a better less greasy taste. the beans and cole slaw served with it was at best pedestrian , but were the best things on the plate.
we both ate a wing, and politely asked for a take away box for the other two wings and breasts along with the check. i mentioned the moldy tap to our server as we left.
driving away, i was looking forward to getting home for and alka seltzer, and a serious tooth brushing session. about half way back to red bank the smell of that left over chicken was turning my stomach, i ended up ditching it in a gas station trash can.

champy's weekly fix. champy's is the best chicken in the southeast. we have to go at least once a week to get our champy's fix. btw...the grilled chicken salad is extremely satisfying. i love the hot sauces - some great choices - specially, cholula's chipolte!

very good!. we visited this place while on vacation based by the reviews. it was not a let down! this simply might have been the best fried chicken i've ate. i had a 3-pc wing dinner with green beans and mashed potatoes w/gravy. the breading was super crunchy and perfectly seasoned. this is the place to go for some good chicken and a relaxed atmosphere. extra bonus: there's parking!

fried chicken done right !!. went for lunch, had the tamales and a three piece chicken plate with delicous baked beans and slaw. this chicken was probably the best fried chicken i've eaten in my 44 yrs. sorry to my mother, grandmothers and even my wife and bea's restaurant, but champy's gets my vote. the tamales were delicous as well. i'm 6'2 250 lbs and i couldn't finish my lunch, not even close. took enough home for dinner ! can't wait to go back for wings and a forty !!

i went to champys because i heard the fried chicken was "legendary". the rumors were true. the chicken was phenomenal. however while i was chewing on said chicken i did not appreciate the way the manager talked to my server. i heard him belittle her and her serving capabilities. being a server myself, i understand how busy and frantic a night shift can be and to hear the owner of a restaurant yell at an employee seems harsh and extreme. i do not wish to be treated the way i witnessed the owner treated the server. while the chicken was tender and warm... the owners personality seemed to contrast greatly
