our first day there we went to a restaurant called champy’s chicken...the decor of champy’s is very interesting it reminds me of several of the oyster bars along the florida coast with the dollar bills and the beer signs on the walls.  as soon as you walk in you see people drinking 40 oz beers.  now don’t get me wrong, i do love my beer but you don’t usually see people drinking a 40 oz beer out of the bottle at a restaurant.  i soon found out that champy’s slogan is “forty’s and fowl”, hence the forties on the tables.   after taking in the atmosphere, it was time to get down to business...

save your money.... this place has good chicken, but aside from that it's not much for the money. i don't see what all the fuss is about. the chicken was super greasy and though fried well, it didn't have too much flavor to it. if you like greasy fatty chicken and spending more than you should for such..than by all means go for it. i wasn't impressed at all.

meh. it's ok i guess if this is your scene.. i think if you are into sports, etc. this would be a great place atmosphere wise. folding chairs, concrete floor, the casual end of casual. you can yell at the game and not worry about spilling your beer.

chicken is good and fresh - but with such a limited menu it is kinda hard to mess up.
i was most pleased with the basket of battered fried jalapeno slices. decent beer, service very courteous and thoughtful.

must love sports, chicken and fried food to truly enjoy this place. nothing fancy - easy place to hang.

worth the wait. run of the mill cole slaw, run of the mill baked beans, and it took forever (40minutes) to get our food, but damn...that fried chicken was totally worth it.

good bird, hope service is better for regulars.. we dined here on a recent visit based on the urbanspoon reviews. the décor is nicely campy. our chicken was good fried chicken. they don't have a hot chicken option, they just stick to regular, but do it well. generous portion and we enjoyed the left overs cold. slaw and fries were also good. we were there at a very slack time, and hope our poor service was not typical. our waitress was occupied with talking on her phone and we were unable to get drink refills without getting up and getting her attention. then, she brought me the wrong order. since she just dropped off the food and left without a check back, it required another walk to get her attention and get my order put right. later, yet again, trouble with drink refills and took forever to get the check. why is it you always get the worst service when there's only one or two tables occupied? liked the food, hope the regular service is better.

review. great tasting food but horrible service. the waitresses hover over folks who they know or they think has money and the rest of the community is left out.hope they improve because i would love to make it my favorite place.

great food and atmosphere. i love their chicken but i wish their prices were just a slight bit cheaper. i like to sit outside. it's in a weird location but they pull it off. bring a dollar so you can sign it and stick it on the wall.

can't miss favorite with out-of-town guests. two relatives (the good kind) called early in the morning and wanted to meet in chattanooga for lunch. they'd been here several times before and we'd made the rounds of several restaurants that are my favorites. nikki's for shrimp, tremont tavern for burgers, 212 for fancy-pants sit-down, brewhaus for brats and kraut, and public house for upscale meat-and-three, and champy's for chicken

before i could finish asking where to meet the answer was a loud "champy's" for fried chicken. even better they were buying!

i had the 3 piece chicken with no-slaw or beans but double fries. j. and m. had wings, a three-piece, slaw, beans, and an order of tamales.

while i hadn't tried the tamales since my first visit, they were better this time. spicier! the chicken breasts were huge, the sides generous, and fries were hot from the fryer.

service was excellent. the server was friendly, unobtrusive yet checked on us at least four times with more water for me, and moved fast and efficiently. champy's has the consistently best servers of any place in town. i've never encountered anything but smiles. this is one place where i happily tip 25% or more.

as billvol said, this is the diamond in a sea of fugazi joints for chattanooga food.

another good meal at champy's. while i avoid arriving at most restaurants between noon and 1 pm we decided to take a chance at getting a table at champy's for lunch at 12:05pm. the place was already packed. we grabbed a table inside as someone was leaving. immediately a server came by and said she'd be back to clean the table. two minutes later she was there. cleaned off table, wiped it down, took our drink orders, and was back in less than two minutes with drinks. took our chicken orders, advised it would be about 5 minutes. in less than five minutes we had our food.

white meat chicken with fries, baked beans, slaw. delicious.

i rarely repeat visits to restaurants this quickly, but this was my fifth visit to champy's in two months. it's hard to beat for service, value, and well-prepared food. clients like it, it's affordable, and some of the best service anywhere.

i always plan on trying something else besides the fried chicken, but the chicken is just so good i change my mind and get the fried chicken again and i'm happy.

good work, champy's!

good chicken, great service, smiling faces. my first trip to champy's. i arrived early and set in bar area waiting for my lunch companion. friendly server with suggestions for appetizers.

we split an order of mississippi-style tamales. ok, but need more spices for my taste. not heat, just up the level of spices.

then the chicken arrived. crispy-fried breast and wing. juicy, flavorful, and large. better than anywhere in chattanooga (with the possible exception of lamar's). i substituted fries for the baked beans. fries were hot, crispy, and delicious. even after they got cold during lunch (my friend and i are talkers) they were good.

i must comment on the quality of the servers. all were friendly, polite, and personable without the all-too-common fake smiles and condescension found elsewhere.

and the servers work! never had to hunt for a server to refill glasses or take away the finished plates. best wait staff i've seen in a long time.

congratulations to the chattanooga champy's. good food, great service, smiling faces. other restaurants could learn from you.
