great place! went again last night and watched the coyotes eat the scraps that were thrown outside. had the 14 ounce ribeye. it was very good, but not as good as the cowboy t-bone i had last time. beans and cole slaw's also very good. service was friendly, helpful, and quick. nexttimei plan to order the rack of ribs. they look great.

way out in the desert, but worth the drive. i had the ladies 7 ounce filet that was the best tasting steak i've had in years. had dinner with a group and the meals were served family style with bowls of cole slaw, baked beans and bread kept filled by attentive servers. will definitely make the effort to get back here nexttimei'm in the area.

this location offers more than just a meal. the scenic views and the steak are amazing. bring the family midday to early afternoon and take advantage of exploring the grounds, with all the historical items, the petting zoo and enjoy a tractor tour of their famous movie sets.

the winding dirt roads don't allow for speeds higher than 55, it's a bumpy two-way to the front entrance. if you're here for a meal, be sure to bring a large appetite (meaning you probably skipped breakfast and lunch, only eating a small snack before arriving). they do not take reservations but parking is generous for larger vehicles, as they have a gentleman guiding the vehicles in to the correct lot, so you don't have to spend muchtimehunting for a parking.

try the steak and lobster meal if you don't mind splurging—worth a "king's ransom," expect to spend double digits, but it is well worth it. they do cater if you need.

so, bring a camera, some sunscreen, and a water bottle.

i will start by saying that cattleman's always represented the best of el paso to me! i would proudly proclaim to all of my friends and colleagues that the best steakhouse in texas was from el paso. i grew up going to cattleman's to celebrate momentous occasions in our life, birthday's, graduation's, wedding's, .....and always the meal was an experience from the beautiful scenery to the professionalism of the waitstaff.

however, all of this paled in comparison to the cowboy steak they served! it was heaven on earth!!!cattleman's was an institution that any native el pasoan can rely on for great service and an even better steak. unfortunately, after giving them the benefit of the doubt the last 3 times i have been there, tonight was the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back. i had to share with anyone the 1-star quality of service they have instead of the 4-5 star they are hoping to receive. especially when contemplating spending their hard earned money in this economic climate at a restaurant that is less than a shadow of it's former self!!!

the service was beyond horrendous! the waiter tried to convince me that the blue rare steak he served me was medium rare. that the t-bone steak with less than a 1/2" tenderloin was a porterhouse steak! i made the idiotic decision to return the steak and have him reheat it and done right, but to no avail;(

the waiter ruined one of the greatest pleasures i used to have in life, having a great steak that i was proud of promoting to the entire world when he erroneously told me a rare steak is only cooked 10-15 seconds per side just to justify his mistake. son, not even a blue rare is cooked for less than 2 minutes per side!!! google it!!!!!!!

btw to the young man who served me, do not blame the expediter in the kitchen... you are the one whom i entrust to bring me the correct steak and if you cannot even tell the difference between a blue rare and medium rare, i think it istimeto move on and do something else. it is a crying shame cattleman's has allowed such incompetence to be a part of what once was a great institution!

save your money! there are better restaurants in el paso where pride and quality still matters. cattleman's has been relegated to nothing more than an expensive mediocre restaurant with less than average service and okay steaks. for the firsttimei left cattleman's hungry and thinking of stopping for a burger after spending a couple of c-notes!!! sad, very sad;(((

terrible customer consideration. we went for a nephew's birthday and it was a large party. they would not sit us until every member of the party was there. i was fine with that policy even though the restaurant was more than half empty but as we waited for everyone to show there was some very small kids who are very hungryand we could not even order appetizers for them until everyone showed and this is per the manager. the service was not friendly the food was not very warm and the burger was very sloppily done. this restaurant has garnered national attention but it seems now that they are resting on that and not continuing their tradition of quality food and service. at anytimewe try to make any changes to our order they said we couldn't. i would not go back there if my meal was free. something aboutpoor service, poor quality of food,0 friendlinessand 0 accommodation just rubbed me the wrong way.

my goodness, that food. we are in town picking up my sister who flew into fort bliss after deployment. we had 4 different people tell us that we must try this place before we left. i must say, i was not disappointed. we had the sausage and shrimp cocktail for appetizers, which themselves were excellent (the shrimp cocktail has a very unique and excellent flavor). my mom had the shrimp-filet kabobs, my sis and her army buddy the t-bone, and her other buddy and myself had the filet. we also had some of the mushrooms. first bite, we were in love. by thetimewe were done and thoroughly full, we were quite happy. it took them a little longer than average to bring the checks, but the food will make you easily overlook that minor issue. hands down best food. especially those daggum mushrooms! we begged several times for the recipe, to no avail. i wish we were able to explore the grounds, but we were just so full and content we all were snoring (minus the driver) by thetimewe hit 10 again. well worth the far drive out of el paso.timeto go into a food coma now!

food good/service bad. i can't understand why a place with such delicious food has terrible service at best.
the food is pricey but good. we had a huge t-bone steak that was so tender it actually cut with the fork without a knife. the mushrooms are delicious and the coleslaw and beans are super good. the bread is hot and delicious too.

the service on the other hand is not that good. our waiter took forever to bring us our food and even drinks. they seem to be focused on playing around and telling jokes than doing their job. if you need a drink refill, you would be better off getting up and getting it yourself -which i did.

when i paid my tab, i was asked how was my meal. i told management about my experience at their establishment. instead of acknowledging the issue with thetimeto get our food and lack of service, they became defensive. they really shouldn't ask questions they don't want to hear the answer to.

not just for cattlemen. coming from el paso, it's a little bit of a drive. but nothing like a little drive through the desert at nite to whet your appetite. deep in the heart of texas, the stars at nite are big and bright and really light up the sky as you approach the ranch. then, the lights of the restaurant slowly steal the nighttimeshow as you get closer and find a place to park among all the pick up trucks (and cars as well).

nothing but wood smoke and grilled meats . . . just how good can that smell?!? the answer was inside as we were escorted after a 30 minute wait to our table . . . and the answer is, "plenty damn good". i felt a little sheepish (don't say that word around a cattleman) about ordering a "cowgirl" instead of a "cowboy" steak. but at one and a half lbs. i mean, come on!! this cowboy was ready to handle a cowgirl (double entendre intended), but the man vs food size of the cowboy at 2 lbs. was way too much.

man, i felt like fred when they slapped that dinosaur sized steak down in front of me. long story short, i consumed more red meat that nite than i had in the two weeks previous.

i have been hard pressed since to find as good a steak for its flavor, tenderness, and texture. that was a steak just too good to be true. maybe i just imagined the whole thing and it was just an altered state caused by someone slipping in a little peyote into my margarita that nite. wrong!! it was that good and i was still picking beef out of my teeth all the next day like a dog savoring a good bone. tmi (too much information) i know, but you get the picture.

wow! a must try!!. my husband travels the country for work and thus is always eating out. i often travel with him and we search for good bbq and steaks. rare to find both in the same place. but here we have. we have tried hundreds of steakhouses and bbq places but none compares to cattleman's. i ordered the ribeye and it was cooked perfectly to my request. i had my steak with the herbed butter and it simply melted in my mouth. the pineapple coleslaw was also very good. we eat here every singletimewe visit el paso. since our son lives here we visit for pleasure also. after many trips to this restaurant we have been amazed every single time. this last trip was thanksgiving day and although they were absolutely packed and service was not great it was still very good. after all each server only has two hands :-) we will continue to eat at cattleman's every visit!!!!

rule 51 - sometimes you're wrong!. a couple of years ago, i tried the cattleman and was less than happy. well, everyone can have a bad night so on my latest trip to el paso, my partner and i stopped at the cattleman to give it another try.

first - the service. from adriana (the hostess) to daniela (the beverage server) to ericka (our server) - outstanding! friendly, attentive without being intrusive and they made great suggestions for our meals.

and the meals - we both went with the wagonmaster which is a one and a quarter pound t-bone. cattleman is running customer appreciation days through the end of november and to get a perfectly cooked (medium rare) texas tbone for $22.95 is a steal. sides (baked potato, beans and great coleslaw) were all very flavorful.

wine list is fairly priced and the desserts (pecan pie!!) were outstanding.

the service was so good that i stopped by to thank mark, the manager.

ericka, daniela and adriana - thanks for a great meal at the cattleman.

disappointing dinner. while in el paso on travel, i went to the cattleman's steakhouse (cs) with high expectations: great write-ups on the 'spoon, great reviews and great recommendations from locals.

the cs is a bit of drive from downtown el paso. the grounds are stunning, especially for sunset facing west.

ribeye, medium rare, recommended by the server as the house speciality should not be a major challenge for the kitchen. the firsttimeit came out well-done and the second time, it came out rare.

service was mixed (thanks cindy - but your partner could use some of your personality and your attention to customers).

that said, my high expectations were not met.

simple done right. if you are accustomed to white collar steakhouses, this is not one of them. very laid back atmosphere and simple meals done right. i ordered the wagon master(medium rare) and it came out perfect. the side dishes are served family style to include baked potato, coleslaw, ranch style beans and bread/butter. the only downside(which i cannot hold against them) is that it is about a 45min trip from the center of ep. i will definitely venture here one lasttimebefore i move.

against the grain. sorry folks but my last 2 trips to catteman's have been extremely dissapointing. first of all, if you are charging premium prices for "premium" food then you are entitled as a paying customer to premium service. this was far from the truth on my last visit despite the fact that we had 6 in our party. additionally, my gf's brisket was bone dry and the 2 out of the 3 rib eyes at my table were salty and dry. there will not be a nexttimefor me or for the members of my party.

service should be better.. this was my first (and probably last)timevisiting cattleman's. i only ordered sides for myself, but was able to try several dishes, including some of the steaks available, from members of my party. though the food was decent, i have to say that i was not at all pleased with the service. our waiter made several unnecessary/rude comments while waiting on us, and the "happy birthday" song we requested for the family member whose birthday we were celebrating was never performed, though three other tables did receive it. when eating at a restaurant, i expect the service to be on par with the price of the meal, and $200+ deserves better!

strange place, awesome filet. was stop # 2 on my "filet fridays" tour. i understand that its an elp icon and truly had a tx feel (although i am undecided on the local wildlife). the filet was outstanding. the portions - generous. taste was terrific. service seemed to have it down to an art/science. i was so full i had a hardtimemaking the drive back to town.
