catch is wilmington seafood!. if you wantseafoodin wilmington then you must visit catch! kieth has captured the essence of low country cooking. catch is the best place in wilmington to find fresh local caught shrimp and fish, bar none.
try to not go during the busy nights, but go when kieth has some time to work his magic and make you a special dish. kieth, thanks for taking care of my family and friends!

nom sod salad-wow. we had the nom sod salad and it was terrific. also, brazilianseafoodstew. the broth was delicious and i wish i could have had a gallon jug of it. i think that it is pricing itself out of the market, but it is good for now. maybe a move toward eastwood and the beach would help for attendance.

pretty good lunch. i had the friedseafoodplatter.the healthy sized portion of amber jack and nice plump oysters were delicious, my only complaint would be the hushpuppies, which were closer to the same-name shoe than the light, airy deliciousness i've grown up on in eastern nc. i look forward to trying them for dinner sometime.

simply, ahhhmazing. catch has, by far, the bestseafoodentrees i have ever eaten. however, don't dismiss his talents when it comes to preparing meat dishes. his pork nam sad or beef nam sad appetizer is ridiculously well prepared, and dances on your tongue. doesn't hurt when they grow their own hydroponic bib lettuce!!! the tempura fried scallops with lobster raviolis were to die for. they only had them on special once, but those are the best scallops i have ever eaten. the presentation is beautiful. the chef pays a lot of attention to what is going out on the plate. the waiters take the time to precisely tell you everything that is included for daily specials, and this is not an easy task. the ceviche changed my entire view on ceviche. it was the perfect start to a delicious meal. the decor is impecable, the service is outstanding. the draft beers are amazing (try the good vibes, it's local!). oh, one last suggestion, the shrimp n grits with chorizoo :)

bestseafoodin nc?. the good: probably the bestseafoodrestaurant in wilmington... possibly in north carolina. black owned (very unusual for a fine dining restaurant). relatively easy to get a table. easily accessible with plenty of parking. smooth atmosphere. true, gourmet, write home to mom cooking. extremely attentive chef (last time we were there -- he trashed all of the day's fresh fish delivery because he didn't like it, and sourced the day'sseafoodhimself). big appetizers, unique salads, melt in your mouth seafood. special desserts. good service. this is really the whole package. this is where you go to impress a date.

the bad: as with most "fine dining" restaurants, eating here is a 2.5 hour affair. it takes time to prepare food that well. expensive... our family of four enjoyed a three course meal and the bill with tip came to $145. it's located in a (nice) strip mall.

verdict: the best. really. even if you can only get here once a year, it's worth it!

i am hooked on catch!. oh my my my i went to catch restaurant last friday night and it was the bestseafoodexperience i have had in wilmington in a long long time. i am a frequent diner of catch on market and catch on princess st. i am also a loyal follower of chef rhodes, i have been dining on his food since he was executive chef at deluxe restaurant.

his food to myself, my family and friends is so thought out, delicious, healthy, pleasing to the eye and stomach. i can sincerely and honestly say that i have not had one meal there that i have disliked. my favorite is the nc sweet potato salad, miso salmon, and the fire cracker shrimp. my son's favorites are the friedseafoodand my friends adore the shrimp & grits. the one person with us who did not eatseafoodordered the lexington bbq ribs, so whoever said he sells nothing butseafoodmust have not throughly read the menu. i make a point to always order what is on special and that is variable depending upon season and market.

i really respect that chef rhodes outsources much of his seafood, poultry, meat and vegetables from local purveyors. he cares about the quality of his food and consistently seeds back into the local community. with that said, i am sure that every diner has not had my experience but more often than not most diners have had my experience. every night is not going to be perfect just like in every business but you go into with the right intention and effort and hope for the best. i saw where someone was annoyed that she went at 525 and he opens at 530 and would not let her in...i find that quite trivial that she would give him a bad review because she could/would not wait 5 minutes when you have upwards of a 15 min wait and above when you go to most any restaurant in the evenings to eat. the time it took for her to get back in her car and pull off the restaurant would have been open...silliness to me but i digress.

i strongly recommend all who travel and reside in wilmington to seriously give catch/chef rhodes a chance, you will not be disappointed.

don't get "angry" lobster. first, know that they only haveseafood(no chicken or beef dishes- i asked for my wife who is not a bigseafoodfan) and most dishes seem to have an asian fusion flare. she had sweet potato/blueberry salad- great and blackened catfish- great. i had cucumber/tomato/blue cheese salad- great and "angry" lobster- terrible, it was so sweet i only ate half of it. i usually like everything, but not "dessert-type" sweet lobster!! drive to carolina beach & eat at michael's (just south of bridge)- it is awesome seafood, chicken, and steaks.
