mother. the variety of food allowed everyone in our party of nine to find something to their liking. none of the food was very special though. the food was set-out all over the dinner room though which meant lots of walking around to get the food. the service was poor. it was a champagne brunch yet getting the server to refill everyone's glass each time around was a chore. the mothers in our party were given gift cards to the restaurant....nice touch until we got home and found that all of the gift cards had zero balance. emails to castaway about the gift cards have gone unanswered.

mother's day brucnh. the variety of food allowed for everyone in our party of nice something to eat. the service was poor though...it was a champagne brunch yet getting the server to refill my glass was a chore. the food was set out all over the large dinner room which meant lots of walking around to get food. the mothers in our party were given gift cards to the restaurant, nice touch until we got home and found the balance on them was zero. emails to castaways asking about the gift cards have gone unanswered.
theviewis spectacular but the food and service certainly isn't.

theviewis incredible, and worth the trip alone! the food is a little pricy, but it's damn good. (i recommend signing up for their rewards program on the website before you arrive for a free reward) the service is slow so plan on being there a few hours and check your receipt if you're in a large group for an automatic tip charge.

castaway restaurant blows me away every time. theviewis breathtaking,the service is always friendly and the food is delicious. castaway is a great place to kick back and unwind. they also offer a great menu selection and a full bar with many exotic cocktails. highly recommended! must try restaurant.

great view, happy hour and sunset menu were perfect. as everyone else mentions, theviewtruly is amazing. i surprised my husband and took him to this hidden gem for his birthday. sitting on the patio around 5pm is very relaxing, especially when you have happy hour prices to enjoy a glass of wine (some wines $6 a glass, domestic beers $3). we also were able to enjoy an appetizer for $6 that is a must try. it was the best spinach artichoke dip i've ever had. they also gave us bread with butter and the best pesto dip to spread. the prices on the main menu were high, but i had looked at the sunset menu before our visit and was not disappointed. for about $22 per person you get a three course meal, which is a great deal! for the first course my husband got the salad and i ordered the chicken tortilla soup, both of which were delicious. for the main course i had salmon and my husband had the prime rib. both were just right. the sauce on the salmon was great and it was served with quinoa and broccoli cooked just right. the mash potatoes that came with the prime rib were also great! the third course is a piece of cheesecake, which was the perfect way to end our meal.
side note *if you are used to fine dining or work in fine dining, you will notice that the building could use some updating, as well as a few other things, but that didn't make my experience bad :)

a nice place to dine. it was my first time there and i was surprised by the selection of food. the menu had something for everyone and the food portions were huge. compared to other fine dining spots i have been,, the prices of the dishes were lower as the food was abundant. you also cannot beat theviewif you dine outside, it is breathtaking as you can see much of the city, and the sunset was wonderful. i will return with friends.

new owners bad food. the history of the restaurant was great food and great view. we have been going there for over 20 years on and off usually for a special occasion.the new owners or management still has a greatviewbut the quality of the food is poor at best. we tried the prime rib(overcooked and dry with little flavor), filet (over tenderized and tasted like mush), overall poor food quality. the server didn't know how to open a bottle of wine correctly that i brought with me and ended up pushing the cork and its pieces into the bottle of wine which resulted in pieces of cork in my good bottle of wine.

this was the most wonderful dining experience. made same day reservations (friday), arrived 15 minutes early and was seated immediately on the terrace with a wonderfulviewof la. the staff was extremely accommodating by moving heat lamps and agreeing to preparing dishes not offered on the menu. food was hot, delicious and plentiful. drinks were generous and service was timely. we can't wait to return.

great place with a view!. i came here with my mentor for dinner. i had a great time. theviewwas phenomenal in the evening. the pesto spread came with the bread was salty and tasty. i had the grilled mahi mahi and my mentor had the chilean sea bass. portions were good - not too large, but not small either. we were both pretty stuffed. the banana bread pudding to share was a nice sweet ending to the meal. the service was perfect as we chatting away the evening over the meal. then we got to walk out on the terrace to enjoy the nigh lights. i would come here again with my husband to enjoy!

great view, mediocre food, slow service. i've eaten at castaway twice - both times bc they were someone else's choice. i'd describe it as wedding banquet food - unimaginative, as if it were cooked hours ahead of time and kept in a warmer somewhere.

theviewon the back patio, however, is killer. love coming here on a cool night - they have fire pits and heat lamps. get a relatively inexpensive wine (their mixed drinks are limp), put your feet up at a fire pit, enjoy the view...and eat somewhere else!

great service, great food.. i went for my one year anniversary. my husband and i enjoyed it very much. our server was prompt and even made some conversation with us. theviewwas breathtaking. i guess it depends on what you order, but the food we had was delicious. the calamari was crisp and was not chewy. i highly recommend it. my husband ordered the prime rib, and i ordered the new york strip. they were both cooked well...it melted in our mouths. on top of that, the server gave us a complimentary strawberry cheesecake to celebrate our anniversary. overall, a wonderful experience. we plan on going back every year.
