mother. the variety of food allowed everyone in our party of nine to find something to their liking. none of the food was very special though. the food was set-out all over the dinner room though which meant lots of walking around to get the food. the service was poor. it was a champagne brunch yet getting the server to refill everyone's glass each time around was a chore. the mothers in our party were given gift cards to the restaurant....nice touch until we got home and found that all of the gift cards had zero balance. emails to castaway about the gift cards have gone unanswered.

mother's day brucnh. the variety of food allowed for everyone in our party of nice something to eat. the service was poor though...it was a champagne brunch yet getting the server to refill my glass was a chore. the food was set out all over the large dinner room which meant lots of walking around to get food. the mothers in our party were given gift cards to the restaurant, nice touch until we got home and found the balance on them was zero. emails to castaways asking about the gift cards have gone unanswered.
the view is spectacular but the food and service certainly isn't.

valet parking service very bad.. first, the waiting to be served is very long. out of 5 dinner plates one was left behind for 5 minutes and we all had to wait; by then our food was cold!
when we left the restaurant and walked towards the valet parking, we noticed our car was left at the same place with the key right on the door. the guy never parked it and the key was never put away. anyone had access to the car, someone could've taken it. of course there was no need to give the valet ticket as they did not have the keys secured. very irresponsible!!

do not even bother with this circus called a restaurant!!!!! i’m 6 months pregnant and went to have a nice meal with my best friend before baby comes. this was one of the worst experiences at an expensive restaurant i’ve ever had. we were seated quickly, the waiter was nice and came to take our drink order. my gf ordered a cocktail and i ordered a soda and appetizers. the appetizers came out about 30 min after ordering them by the time her cocktail came we had already finished the appetizers. why does a cocktail take 40+ min to make? our actual meal didn’t come out for about another 30 min after that. reservations time was 615, it was 740 by the time i was receiving my meal. by that point i had filled up on bread and appetizers so i was no longer hungry and asked that they bring to go boxes. the whole experience of things taking entirely longer then they should have had me ask for the manager. he was awful! told me every excuse in the book, told me it wasn’t his staffs fault the food and drinks took so long (so whose fault was it? mine? ha!) and he was disgustingly rude about it. i demanded a discount because i was not going to pay over 200$ for the worst experience and meal of my life. i explained to him i would now have to go home and recook the leftovers which will make everything over cooked. so why am i paying for a meal i didn’t get to enjoy? he tried to take 1 steak off. i demanded he take both steaks off. why are u being stingy as if you pay for this meal out of your pocket? then upon leaving he was in an actual physical encounter with another guest bc she too was complaining. i went over to let him know that during covid they had no soap in any of the dispensers in their bathroom. he got mad at that. he was throwing the other guest out and had called police. you shouldnt be a manager!!! you clearly don’t know how to accommodate or communicate with your guests and you take zero accountability for the way you are running your restaurant. honestly just an awful experience through and through.

i figured for valentine's weekend, it's good to post about this restaurant with a view, right? castaway in burbank has quite the romantic setting, especially around sunset time. castaway has been around for years but they had a major remodeling in 2018. the cocktail menu was more interesting than what i had expected. i started with a don pedro old fashioned (ilegal mezcal, spiced bourbon reduction, px nectar - $15). it was a nice mezcal old fashioned, and look at that view!

where do i begin.....this place is an absolute dining experience. every single person encountered was a professional. the staff clearly enjoys what they do. the los angeles views are spectacular yet familiar. everything we experienced on the menu was great. if you live in the burbank area or visiting the los angeles this is a must visit.

the view is incredible, and worth the trip alone! the food is a little pricy, but it's damn good. (i recommend signing up for their rewards program on the website before you arrive for a free reward) the service is slow so plan on being there a few hours and check your receipt if you're in a large group for an automatic tip charge.

castaway restaurant blows me away every time. the view is breathtaking, the service is always friendly and the food is delicious. castaway is a great place to kick back and unwind. they also offer a great menu selection and a full bar with many exotic cocktails. highly recommended! must try restaurant.

messy, dirty, disorganized, overpriced. we went for the sunday brunch and had made reservations. the restaurant was packed and had many guest still waiting to be seated but the hosts seems disorganized. the buffet had mostly empty trays when it was only 1:30 and nothing was refilled. everything was in disarray whether it be the food or the set-up. it looks dirty, distasteful and very very messy! when the bill came and we only then found out it was $40 a head, we were quite blown away considering how everything was, it should only be worth nothing above $20. will never go back !

worst service ever. they sat us at a plastic table outside with no silverware or napkins - or anything at all. and nobody even looked at us for over 10 minutes so we left. saw other tables looking like they were waiting for a check or staff of some kind - and nobody came to them either. complained to the host and he did nothing. will never go back.

father's day: cold, overpriced, and leftovers.. i sent in this letter to management. i did hear back from phillip, one of the managers at this location who seemed to be making a sincere effort to resolve the serious concerns i addressed in my letter. however, it has now been a week since my last contact and although he promised to call me it has yet to occur, even after i called and left a message yesterday. if i hear back i will update my review accordingly, but for now all i can say is as of now i absolutely do not recommend eating here. also, upon looking at other reviews [on yelp], it feels as if the food issue occurs quite often and my experience was not an isolated one.

"i visited your establishment this father's day, june 15, 2014, for a 7:00 p.m. reservation and our experience was not only an absolute disappointment, it was astonishing to me how a restaurant would offer a buffet of such poor quality to their patrons.

i have visited your restaurant many times, most recently to celebrate my birthday and i have always been exceptionally happy with the service, food and attention i received at castaway. for this reason i thought it would be a great place to celebrate father's day.

your father's day buffet was an entirely different story. your establishment could not be bothered to keep the food hot, the buffet areas clean or keep the food well stocked. i was charged the same amount per buffet as guests who arrived at 9 a.m. and i expected the same quality or at the bare minimal a similar quality as your earlier guests. instead the condition of the food and buffet areas not only sub-par, it felt belittling to be served it and expected to enjoy it like nothing was wrong.

i had a serving of lamb from the carving station and upon taking my first bite i realized it was cold. not warm, cold. the gravy and biscuits were so cold and the biscuit so hard, i literally could not eat it because i felt i may lose a tooth in the process. my sister's eggs benedict may possibly have been delicious warm but cold were a different story. my honey-glazed ham was so cold it was sitting on a mixture of what looked like a thick syrup of pineapple glaze and was inedible. the wild rice was cold and hard as were the majority of your other available food items, including but hardly limited to your waffles, fried chicken, potatoes, baked beans, bbq brisket etc.

the only foods i found of somewhat acceptable quality were a salmon dish (which was served warm, definitely not hot) and a plate of pasta from your pasta station. at minimum the pasta was hot but still disappointing as you were all out of any sauces, other than pesto, and your pasta looked as if it had been sitting in the bowl for disconcerting length of time. by the time we made it to dessert the churros were cold and rock solid and there no cappuccino in the bin for my father to enjoy. at this point we were told by your staff that the buffet was on "last call" and that if we wanted anything else it was our last chance, at approximately 8:20 p.m.

it appeared that the castaway staff stopped bothering to restock food items well before our reservation time of 7p.m., leaving us with a buffet of what appeared to be and tasted like left-overs. we were not even allowed the opportunity to try some items on your menu because you were already "out" and felt the last guests were not deserving of these food options. if castaway had absolutely no problems with accepting reservations for specific time, 7 p.m., there is a reasonable expectation that we would at the very least be served hot food and not the entire day's leftovers, cold leftovers at that.

not only was the quality of food in a poor state the buffet display and presentation itself was in disarray. there was food spilled everywhere from previous guests that no one had even bothered to tidy up, and i noticed many of the "sterno" heat cans under your food stuff were out (likely the reason your food was already cold). despite these issues that were obviously in need of attention, staff members stood around buffet areas chit chatting. this observation is not inclusive of our server, a young blonde woman who was exceptionally bright, helpful and accommodating despite obvious dissatisfactions with everything else.

we should have walked through the buffet before we sat down, or perhaps even walked out after we realized the state your buffet was in, but my father was too polite to say much as this was our "treat" to him. on the other hand, i was too embarrassed to bring it up and instead hoped the buffet would improve and that our first impressions were wrong. needless to say it didn't and my father's day consisted of me apologizing for the way your establishment chose to conduct itself that night. i spent $200 on a meal for 4 people and felt that i could have paid much less elsewhere and at the very least enjoyed hot food. great view, happy hour and sunset menu were perfect. as everyone else mentions, the view truly is amazing. i surprised my husband and took him to this hidden gem for his birthday. sitting on the patio around 5pm is very relaxing, especially when you have happy hour prices to enjoy a glass of wine (some wines $6 a glass, domestic beers $3). we also were able to enjoy an appetizer for $6 that is a must try. it was the best spinach artichoke dip i've ever had. they also gave us bread with butter and the best pesto dip to spread. the prices on the main menu were high, but i had looked at the sunset menu before our visit and was not disappointed. for about $22 per person you get a three course meal, which is a great deal! for the first course my husband got the salad and i ordered the chicken tortilla soup, both of which were delicious. for the main course i had salmon and my husband had the prime rib. both were just right. the sauce on the salmon was great and it was served with quinoa and broccoli cooked just right. the mash potatoes that came with the prime rib were also great! the third course is a piece of cheesecake, which was the perfect way to end our meal.
side note *if you are used to fine dining or work in fine dining, you will notice that the building could use some updating, as well as a few other things, but that didn't make my experience bad :)

30th wedding anniversay. to not go into too much detail.....reservation for a party of 40 on the patio, was given 4 tables of 4. when questioned seating manager (cindy) said the rest of my guests can just "stand and mingle" then she was overheard by my son saying "what does she want me to do, pull tables out of my ass!" no i expect you to do your job and honor a reservation that was made weeks in advance (that you charged me $100 to hold) and if you couldn't do that let me know so i can move my celebration!

not as good as it used to be.. we were celebrating our anniversary and ordered steak and lobster. the price was very high for the quality. the lobster was tasteless. the waitress did not ask if we were celebrating anything, and did not acknowledge our anniversary even though it was stated when our reservations were made. very disappointing meal. i made a note in my calendar to go to a different restaurant when we celebrate next year. we have gone to castaway several times for our anniversary over the last 15 years, but will not again.

for our anniversary we felt we were basically ignored. both the reservationist and waiter asked us about it but why i don't know. we received no special acknowledgement or even dessert. we left feeling disappointed. i would not recommend the place for celebrating any special occasion.
