delicious lunch spot and great choices if you want to be healthy or indulge!. the lunch menu was fantastic and i wanted to order everything on it. they have a lot of salad and healthy options as well as several fishes they prepare with olive oil and tomatoes. the pastas looked very appealing but we opted for the lighter options which were perfectly prepared and delicious. i would love to go back sometime and try the pastas. te dessert was ok but nexttimei would go to dolcezza for gelato instead.

i recently stepped into casa luca dc for the firsttimeas i was researching sustainable restaurant practices in the dc area for immersion travel magazine.  not only did i get to sample some great vegetarian dishes which made me think “if i had a chef who cooked this type of food at home, i would totally be a vegetarian” but chef erin clarke was kind enough to share her delicious broccolini with toasted pine nut pane fritto & broccoli “pesto” recipe with the dining traveler readers.  the broccolini is sourced from path valley farms in pennsylvania and uses every single part of the vegetable for this dish, to include the stems to create a “pesto”.

great experience at the casa luca. i was in washington, dc for business. my birthday happened to land on this trip and i brought my adult daughter along with me.
we decided to try casa luca for my birthday dinner. it was the perfect choice!! it all started with a great waiter who explained the menu items. he even got the chef to make a dish which wasn't currently shown on the menu. the food was fantastic and the service was even better. from topping up the water and wine glasses to the special birthday coffee cake, after dinner liqueur and a personalized birthday card signed by the staff. the general manager even popped by to make sure all was well.
i highly recommend casa luca and will definitely return nexttimei'm in town.

glacial kitchen. i had high hope for casa luca, and i still maintain them, but my first visit today was a rocky start. food was adequate to excellent, service was very good, but kitchen was terribly slow.

i went for a friday lunch to eat at the bar by myself. jameson, the bartender, is competent and provided good service. i had an hour before i had to leave, so i didn't think there would be any problem. i was wrong.

i ordered the sockeye salmon crudo, which was outstanding, and the spaghetti carbonara which was ok, but not a signature dish worthy of its $26 price tag. a first glass of the on-tap house italian chardonnay, which was pleasant, then another after the food still hadn't arrived. for two dishes that barely had to be cooked, it took forever. over 30 minutes for the first course, and the second arrived about 3 minutes before my drop-dead departure time, and only after i had warned jameson that i was leaving. i then had to woof it down, and it really wasn't that great, so i left almost half. the spaghetti was all stuck together, sauce was good, but again, nothing special.

there's really no excuse for a downtown dc restaurant not to be able to turn out such simple dishes in a reasonable amount oftimeon a week day. dining alone at the bar, it's not like i was looking to linger.

tab with tip came to $82, an expensive meal for a "quick lunch". at that rate i would have liked to have the thetimeto savor the meal. staff apologized, but they can't control the kitchen. were i serving, i would have at least made the second glass of wine free to compensate partially, but i paid full fare-not a problem-but they did nothing to try to redeem the poor performance.

i'm a fan of fiola, and hoped to like luca even more, but the price tag was more fiola-like and the kitchen performance did not live up to their standards.

the washington, d.c. dining scene was changed for the better when chef fabio trabocchi and his wife maria moved to town and opened fiola . it’s a beautiful and classy restaurant that delivers fine dining at its best. this friday, july 5th they will open their second restaurant casa luca in the old againn space located at 1099 new york avenue nw. the restaurant is named after their son luca, and is supposed to be a family gathering place, similar to the meals the trabocchi’s enjoy at home on sunday’s with their own family. a few friends and i were able to get a sneak preview yesterday as they kindly extended an invitation for us to try the food during “friends and family” week. after close to 3 hours of plowing through the extensive menu, i can confidently declare that casa luca will be great success just like its sister restaurant fiola. the space: for those who spenttimeat againn, you’ll immediately be surprised at how they were able to transform the interior. what used to be a dark
