such a lovely night spending time and enjoying the drinks with my sister, the drinks are spot on, just what we wanting to have. i had one of the drink which is almond flavour, that was absolutely delicious. definitely go back again.

like something out of a movie. you walk downstairs to find what literally looks like a caretaker's office until you open the door and step inside you're surprised with this gorgeous cocktail bar. it's quite dark & mysterious and has such an old school vibe. there's no menu - a mixologist will approach you & establish your preferred spirits & flavour profile by asking you a series of questions and then conjure something up based on your answers (our mixologist by the way did an amazing job with our concoction). there's no bar quite like this one, when you leave you'll feel like you stumbled upon something special that only a few elite "chosen" ones know about.........or maybe it was the whiskey that had me feeling like the "chosen one"?

reluctant to review this, because once you find it you want to keep it secret and all to yourself! the caretaker is based upon the experience one has when attending this quiet gem. excellent service and fantastic cocktails made to suit your palette. not a party type location, more of a speak easy and relax vibe going on. will become a regular of this place in no time.

awesome place, friendly and knowledgeable staff. awesome dark and dingy atmosphere and moody lighting, really transports you away to another world.

only issue was our drinks were finished but the staff never asked if we wanted another round.

service was amazing, atmospheres was awesome, perfect for a date night but alright for group hangouts as it was abit dark there but overall it was awesome

they focus on making classic cocktails and spinoffs of classic cocktails using basic ingredients. quality>quantity.

they ask a set of questions to get a grasp of what you are in the mood for, what you like and what you dislike. it can be a hit or miss depending on your answers so make sure to think it through in order to get the best out of your experience.

friendly crew. ambiance is great! it's like a speakeasy.

any cocktail is $19. it's on the pricier side but their cocktails have a generous amount of alcohol compared to other cocktails which usually cost around $15-$20.

if you value a good cocktail, you will like this place!

incredible. accomodating, spectacular customer service and very classy. caretaker is a classic cocktail bar. they have a preset menu but like to not show customers and instead make drinks custom to how you're feeling and wanting. if you don't like it, they will make you another one.

price : all drinks are 19 dollars. it's steep, but you're paying for quality, atmosphere, class and service. to compare, this is not a 3 dollar smirnoff from bar 101.

on saturday night it was a great underground vibe and on sunday it was a chill after work quiet time.

i got a vodka based drink with a lime wedge in a margarita style in the first photo. second photo i got a "great jack port". refreshing taste and valence between sweet, sour and citrus.

if you're a regular then they give you a little book specific for you so that if you want to refer back to a drink you've had you can easily find it.

came here on a friend's recommendation and i enjoyed the experience. i love that they customise the drinks for your preference and you can get your drinks remade until you're happy. i ended up getting something short and citrusy and friends got a variety of other drinks.

it was super busy when we went and since we had a semi-large group, we decided to wait for a bigger table to open up so we could sit together. we left and they called us once a place was open, which took about 45 minutes (on a saturday night).

one of my favourite places in auckland, absolutely beautiful decor, the ambience is to die for the staff are welcoming and friendly. i was so blown away by how talented the bartenders where, their creations where flawless and so well designed for every person in my group. fair prices and a hospo discount which is always so appreciated i've really enjoyed the few times i've been able to come here and i will most definitely keep coming back!

the caretaker is an awesome underground bar in britomart that may just be the new king of cocktails in auckland city! what other bar tailors every drink to your mood and taste? they're phenomenal! not to mention the decor and vibes make you feel like you've stepped back into an old school speak easy!

this is very first time that i have been here.
i was introduced by friend of mine.
i thought to check it out.
their cocktail are pretty amazing. basically you tell them what you really like and they make it for you.
however don't recommend to go on weekends.
i did and i wish choose different night to have fun .
we had our first round pretty fast.
how ever we had to wait 35 min to get our second round.
wish i could try few cocktail however by the time we had our second round it was 11pm.and we got there at 9pm.
but customer service were on point.
friendly staff and nice atmosphere there.
if you are cocktail lover and you got a time give it try.

really neat bar , great cocktails, atmosphere and set up.  wait staff super friendly and did the best customized cocktails.  only issue was finding the place, needs more signage/information of where it is on roukai lane. had to ask staff at orleans.

firstly, the question where is this place? perhaps it's location is the reason why not many know about this place. it's underground, dark, aesthetically vintage and has everything that will get you drooling as you make your way by taking the staircase by the orleans down to this hidden gem. can't recommend it enough to everyone i come across. they specialise in cocktails, no menu. all you need to do is say what you feel like and the bartender will make you the same with their twist. we got new york sour, orange martini, another dry gingerale sour and a twist on singapore sling. except for singapore sling, everything came out pretty well, honestly haven't had a decent sling in nz till now so can't expect any different. all drinks are $19 so yeah its more of a cocktail bar perfect for a couple of drinks. but the experience was epic. i hope this place picks up, though it was quite full already so it is gaining popularity with word of mouth.

poor racquet bar. when we asked for directions to caretaker (through the big orange doors turn left and down the stairs) the barman at racquet said"if i had a dollar for everyone who asked me for directions....".
worth the hunt however, the caretaker atmosphere is as appealing as the reviews described, adorned with hundreds of broom handles nailed across the roof.

the girl behind the bar didn't acknowledge us when we sat down, but 10 minutes later alistair (who we later realised was one of the owners) put everything to rights and proceeded to meet all expectations as one of auckland's master mixologists. there was no menu(although i understand they are there if you ask), you tell alistair your likes and dislikes and he dishes up a sensation. the only downside was that because they were reasonably busy, service was a little slow, but the cocktails are worth the wait.
