cafe lemontree is a unique take on korean food and for the most part, succeeds in doing so. while certainly areas to improve upon, the base cuisine is decidedly authentically korean and should be on the radar for anyone looking forgoodkorean, especially if you are in the area or are tired of the usual offerings.

the atmosphere was wonderful, very cozy but not cramped. the menu had agoodspread of korean, japanese and western options and the food was delicious! i got the chicken apple sandwich and my friend got the korean bbq skillet; both were generously portioned for the price. my only complaint was that it appeared to be one man working the front and kitchen and several customers came in after us so he was busy with them. we would have liked to get dessert too, but after an hour of waiting for him to come back and check on us we decided to leave. i’d love to visit again so hopefully next time we’ll be able to try the bingsu like we wanted!

order: korean ramen (lunch special), spicy pork skillet, takoyaki, popcorn chicken.

korean ramen:
i was very excited to try this ramen! it wasgoodat the beginning but i started to recognize the flavour. from my experience it tasted like shin ramyun, i believe that's what it might have been. if i had known i was getting instant noodles i would not have spent $10 for a bowl of ramen i could make at home for $3. the dumplings were not amazing in opinion. they were very doughy, and didn't have a lot of filling. there also a few chunks that were hard. thegoodthing about this ramen were the rice cakes! i wish it had come with more!

spicy pork skillet:
the spicy pork was a bit different from what we were expecting, but it wasn't bad. this was very filling and had a lot of different components! if we were to go again, we would probably get a different meat!

popcorn chicken:
this appetizer was not visually attractive. they basically put popcorn chicken and deep fried rice cakes on a plate and threw some sweet and sour sauce on it. i personally don't like that sauce and was not aware it would be on there...i think their menus lack some information, so be sure to ask questions if you have any concerns! the popcorn chicken tasted like your average kfc popcorn chicken, was expecting a bit more. as for the rice cakes, they weregoodbut from the plate there was probably only 5 tiny slices of rice cakes...which is not a lot.

takoyaki:
i can give a real review of this because it never came! we didn't get charged for it, but the waiter just didn't put it in our order. it was fine because at that point we were full. i didn't appreciate the fact that they didn't apologize for their mistake though.

overall my experience was okay. i would only go back to try their popular dessert but not for anything else. the restaurant itself is really cute though! customer service was ok.

had the beef bulging. loved it. generous portions and the flavour was incredible. beef was so tender. the restaurant is so cute and well decorated. one wall has chalkboard paint where they have a lot of their menu. love the tea cups and teapots that decorate the shelves. con: service when i was there was super slow and disorganized. i understand some waitresses are
better that others there. ps. skip the dishes was there 4 times while we were there. that would be agoodoption

i was here yesterday with a friend and quite enjoyed the cutesy/kitschy atmosphere. it is definitely unique in that there are korean dishes on the menu along with western baked goods, teas and waffles. my friend and i both had a salad as we are eating light, and i really liked the crispy salmon salad i had, and i liked that it had berries and a variety of lettuce and kale, and no cheese in sight. the salmon was almost like salmon skin, because i didn't taste meat, just the crispy batter and a burst of salmon flavour you usually get from the skin. the service wasgoodand polite. i'll be back to try a waffle and some tea at some point on a cheat day for my diet.

ok winnipeg !!!! the honey bread dessert. wherever you live in the city, take a drive some evening for a coffee or tea and the honey bread dessert. the original is carmel, they offer a chocolate version. in my opinion, this original carmel honey bread dessert is amazing ! think of a large piece of a toasted cinnamon bun cooked to perfection (crunchy on the outside soft on the inside) then cover it with the lightest and most flavourful whipped cream with drizzled carmel. i contemplated trying it because i thought it might be too sweet and i am not a fan of "honey flavoured" desserts, but it is the perfect combo of sweet and crunchy. can't say enough howgoodit is. lovely cafe atmosphere. you will be pleased you made the drive - it is something quite different and surprisingly so great than anything else you will get anywhere in winnipeg, that's for sure.

this place is quite unique and different not to mention the service is very prompt. however the food is not verygoodat all, i ordered a stirfry with glass noodles and upon leaving the restaurant my boyfriend and i felt very nauseous. we both puked out the food as it was just not settling well. so proceed this place with caution, if you wanna for a cup of tea or something is great, however the food is awful.

i have been to a number of cafes like this in the city, and honestly, cafe lemon tree is the best! the food is excellent, the prices aregoodand best of all the service is prompt and polite. every time i go, i hear customers from around the area raving about how much they like it and how nice it is to have it close by.

the bbq skillet is excellent and such a huge portion. same goes for the okonomiyaki, it is definitely a full meal set alone!

the teas and drinks are all wonderful, i especially love the caramel mocha. i don't know if they still have the honey bread, but if they do, definitely try it! it's sooo good. the servers are so cute and sweet. it has something for everyone and a very relaxing atmosphere. the only thing i would change is the tables & chairs, but otherwise it's perfect!

cafe lemon tree is a fabulous place in south st. vital.  you have to go there!

cafe lemon tree has a calming and inviting demeanor.  from the moment you walk in, you feel transported to a different world:  somewhere between a tea house and a gift shop.  the decor is simple but appealing, with cute and unique cups, salt and pepper shakers, and knickknacks that remind you of a simpler time.  (a few interesting korean items are for sale.)

our server was lovely!  she was so sweet and kind.  clearly she received as much joy from helping us, as we did in experiencing her delightful personality.

the menu is varied, with skillets, tempura, wraps, salads, sandwiches, bbq, and korean specials.  there is also a wide selection of coffees, from plain to decadent,  in addition to waffles, ice-cream, and cheesecake desserts.  prices are reasonable.

we had korean bbq skillets:  the dak-galbi (chicken and veggies in a spicy pepper sauce), and the tofu steak.  both were beautifully presented in piping hot skillets, and served with fresh grilled pineapple, fries, kim-chi, and rice, in addition to dainty bowls of tasty pickled, and sweet cabbage.

everything was fresh and delicious.

to top everything off, is agoodluck tradition of writing your wishes on a lemon shaped paper which is then hung up either on a large garland that sweeps one side of the room, or on a tree near the door.  when you write them down, your wishes will come true, so we did just that, and added ours to the growing number of bright, cheery papers that adorn the room.

we arrived with great anticipation.  we were made to feel incredibly comfortable and welcome, and we left feeling uplifted and happy.  thank you cafe lemon tree for making our whole experience at a delight.!   :-)

we will be back.

read about this place on this site & drove by it after work so decided to stop in for an early supper i was the only one there my server was very friendly. the inside of this place is strange but in agoodway the different chairs at each table, the different nick nakes on the walls & figurine salt & pepper shakers might seem just slapped together but in my opinion is brilliant. i had the dak galbi which is chicken & rice cake with veg fried in a chili paste. it was spicy goodness i have never tried it before but loved it & now writing about it want it again.
