our next stop was cafe du monde. everyone and their mother recommended we go there for one of their famous beignets. cafe du monde only really serves two things: the beignets and coffee. i, unfortunately, am not a coffee drinker so i didn’t get to experience their famous coffe au lait (coffee mixed with half hot milk) but i did dig into a beignet and chased it down with a cold chocolate milk. it was good but not earth-shattering good. maybe my expectations were too high? honestly, i think i had better beignets in savannah ! don’t get me wrong. i enjoyed them but next time i won’t wait on the excessively long line for some simple fried dough with powdered sugar. it reminded me of  voodoo donut in portland . good, not great, but the reputation has grown so much it’s a must try for yourself when you visit. cochon we met local friends from baton rouge  at this lovely restaurant who highly recommended it. thankfully we had reservation as it was packed to the rim! the atmosphere was casual and fun but a little loud. i loved the small plate options on the menu and we decided to order a bunch to share. i didn’t take many photos. i was enjoying the company and conversation too much but i did pause when my entree came out. that’s rabbit and dumplings and it was amazing! i’m normally not a dumpling girl but i made an exception as this was a menu item i’ve never seen before. the whole meal was fabulous and our waiter was super nice even though he seemed stretched too thin at this busy dinner spot. apolline based on yet another recommendation (thank you brandi !) we had to go to apolline for brunch. it  was a cute littleplacein uptown new orleans. small but cozy. a little loud but that may have only been because we were seated next to the most annoying group on the planet. before i even get into my entrée i have two words for you: cinnamon bacon.

delicious!. fast, efficient service for aplacethis busy (and it's busy all the time, even at 10pm!) we got two iced cafe-au-laits and a plate (3) of fresh beignets, which were simple but perfect. the powdered sugar sticks to the hot oil, and the outside is crispy, while the inside is just on the good side of undercookes without being doughy.

great ambience, great views, cheap and refreshing.

overrated. after standing in line for 30 minutes, we sat in a jammed packed environment with a horrible odor coming from the floor. thisplaceneeds to be pressure washed with bleach.
been there and done that.

the oneplaceyou have to visit in new orleans is cafe du monde. i don't really know why, but it's the most famous spot in the city, and i don't think my trip would have been complete without it. the original cafe du monde coffee stand was established in 1862 in the new orleans french market. the cafe is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. it closes only on christmas day and on the day an occasional hurricane passes too close to new orleans.

the five of us visited café du monde on a sunday morning around 9am. at the time, the line was not too long, but by the time we left by 10, the line was more than double. the line did more well. during the wait, we listened to the street musicians. once we were seated, the waitress came by and took our order. this morning’s breakfast consisted of beignets & cafe au lait. the food and service were great. the only negative is that the seating area was tight. all and all, as a tourist, thisplaceis aplaceyou must visit.

a new orleans tradition. remember theplacealways has a 10-15 minute wait. it is chaotic and not much of an experience. but the freshly fried beignets are worth the wait. prices are reasonable too. we had a long wait to get a table and a equally long wait to get our food. it was a crazy busy day with all diners packed as sardines.
hot chocolate 👍
coffee 👍👍
beignets 👍👍👍👍

thisplaceis a must see while visiting new orleans. open 24/7 and totally packed with people during a day. it takes a while to get a table, but you should be patient, especially if want to seat outside. coffee is kind of plain, but the beignets are just outstanding. freshly fried, they come hot on a plate, covered with powder sugar. you can share a standard portion of three or take it all if you are hungry. this is addicting dessert, so we came again the day after. this time left theplacewith a plastic bag full of local pecan pralines. they are simply amazing.

can’t visit new orleans without checking out french quarter.  so full from lunch still so just needed a hot chocolate and coffee for the others.  i saw thisplacehad good reviews so we managed to get a park and walked down.  there was a bit of a line, obviously a popular place.  we finally got a seat, the waiters are a bit all over the place, i know it’s busy but still.  ordered a hot chocolate, coffees, juice and two beignets (you get an order of 3).  the hot chocolate was really good, loved it.  coffee was decent but just doesn’t cut the coffee you get in aus/nz, so i’ve been told – i don’t drink coffee.  anyway, the beignets – they were tasty, but would have been good to have a filling, maybe custard.  that would have really made it pop.  still enjoyed it and the atmosphere, although busy, was nice.  we ordered two of the souvenir mugs – and once we got back saw that the waitress had given us both the wrong colour.  i have to say the only thing annoying was the service, everything else was great.

went here last month, they actually have these in japan aswell but i didn't actually realise what is was at time. luckily though i got to try original, as a tourist you can't pass up opportunity to try beignets it's famous for.

there's actually takeout window; if you can't be bothered waiting for a seat (it gets really packed; and we had large group so waiting for tables wasn't on cards). beignets come in little bags of three enough to fill you up but i ended up buying a big f/#&off bag of them (probably like 30) and it only lasted till end of day so that's saying something. my only beef was with snarky asian lady at takeout window but meh like i said if your a tourist do not pass thisplaceup try it, you won't regret it.

it's an iconicplaceand a must stop for anyone visiting new orleans for the first time. the coffee is great and the beignets come with plenty of confectioners sugar. best enjoyed there at a table. be prepared to pay in cash, and if it's not a off season time there will be a wait.

this is theplaceyou need to go.  it is a can't miss for new orleans history, cafe au lait and beignets.  it is an experience that is pleasant and close enough to get the vibe of whatever is happening on the street.
