oh my god! these were the words i uttered upon descending to the depths of burrow cafe in antipolo. the wooden door at the bottom of the 76-step journey opened to a sanctuary for the soul. it felt like a dream to be there as my relatives and i marveled on the scenery which was full of greens and natural elements. the structure itself was elegant and pleasing to the eyes. the sound of nature and water flowing tickled our senses. it was early in the morning when we arrived so the large windows were still opened and the early morning dew and wind were really evident. the menu as i know, changes every now and then. we ordered their tender beef tapa, beef short ribs with corn and green bean risotto, beef stroganoff pappardelle, eggs benedict with smoked salmon and bacon, nutella pancakes, coffee and fruit shakes. i personally liked the beeftapabest as it was really savory. the short ribs was a bit chewy for my liking but the risotto was really creamy and good. the papardelle was really heavy and creamy and the pasta noodles were done perfectly. service was exceptional! 😊

just got back from having breakfast here today. i've read the reviews before going here and already tried to manage my expectations. i still wanted to push through because we waited for 2 months for this reservation.

i had one of the bestsellers - beef tapa. it was.. okay. sweet and tender, but forgettable. for the price, i was hoping for more. kanto freestyle has bettertapaat a lower price.

fish and chips - i didn't like this at all, especially the breading. it tasted like a malangsa (sorry, what is it in english?!) skyflakes. malangsang skyflakes, yeah. haha.

the homebrew iced tea has a ginger taste to it. i'm guessing it's a lemongrass or wheatgrass thing. it was fine, just not what you would expect an iced tea to taste like.

the creamer and sugar that they served for the coffee seemed like it was there for a year. the creamer was hard and we had to scrape it off.

the lady servers seemed like they're tired of working there, at 8am. the guys were more friendly and energetic.

oh and my partner's dish was served after 10min of ordering. my beeftapatook around 30-40min more.

i personally think the ambience is not a redeeming factor too. it's cute, yes. but nothing else to see besides a river and some trees.

edit: just saw the receipt again. when it was presented to us at the table, the total was 1280. we then asked for the fish and chips to be wrapped up, and then gave my credit card. lo and behold, they added an additional charge of 20 pesos for the box. what irks me is that they did not even inform us of this, and charged my card 1300. and it's preposterous for a single kraft carton box to be costed at 20 pesos. can't believe they applied a mark-up for that.

i've never advised anyone to avoid a restaurant, until now. hope they're reading the multiple negative reviews here and improve for the better.

not overrated as i expected it to be!
reserve in advance! many people did not book a table and was politely escorted away because the tables were full!

ambience aside ('cause we all know how great the place is!), the food was above average in my opinion. :)

1) beeftaparice - good! although you might want to try their other dishes since you're already in rizal :)

2) grilled chicken with mushroom bourdelaise (option: rice or sweet potato mash) - really good! chicken breast was unexplainably juicy, though i think it wasn't really grilled. its sauce was superb. i can still remember the taste. at first you'll taste a tomato-ey caldereta flavor but then you'll experience an explosion of mushroom. it's unlike any other sauce i've ever tried. i chose the sweet potato mash and it was really smooth and silky rich! i chose this risky dish from the menu, not knowing what bourdelaise was 😂 and i'm so happy i took this risk!

3) home brewed iced tea - unexpectedly really good! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 it's also in pretty pink color 😍 like pomelo. i think they used honey instead of sugar?

4) dayap creme brulee - really nice! i admit that the creme brulee was not smooth but i took into consideration that the acid from the dayap made it that way. nevertheless, it wasn't unpleasant. it was actually really good that they paired dayap. i also loved the cute little sliced fruits on top! super picturesque! it also paired well with the dish! kudos to their chef for preparing this! it's my first time to hear of dayap (the waiter said it was like a filipino lime?) and i'm glad i got to taste it in this dish! i wish there was a bit more of the burnt sugar on top but i guess it's also good to have less calories 😂 but sweetness was just right ah! thank you for coming up with this dish!

ambience - really great! i lvoe their interior and choice of music. the huge windows were so helpful in making us feel relaxed because we got to see nature really close. and the sunlight wasn't harsh. just right! only thing i can suggest is that their restroom be cleaned more properly.

i saw that they are making an extension just outside, probably for private events so that's really exciting!

our drive from manila took only 1 hour getting there on a sunday. going home, there was a bit of traffic so better plan well!

good food and a view of nature. the ambience is so comforting. you'll be dinning underground, with a view of everything green, along side a river. super majestic vibe. the menu is okay, as i really appreciate a not so wide range of food selection.

my favorite was the lechon gising gising. the curried chicken rice bowl is also good. i find the fish of the fish and chips a bit fishy.

lechon and gising-gising rice bowl - php365
curried chicken rice bowl - php350
fish and chips - php420
tender beeftapa- php330
14 day corned beef brisket - php340

i now understand why the place is for reservation only! it was a normal wednesday, lunch time, and the place was packed.

i ordered their beef tapa. i wasn’t able to finish my order because it was a lot. very worth it for its price. however, the beeftapahad a lot of fat. half of it was just fat.

we also ordered their mushroom soup, chicken curry, crispy suman and keylime pie. for the drinks, we tried their coffee and iced tea.

the crispy suman was my favorite! it wasn’t too sweet, the taste was amazing, and the mango was just right.

the ambiance was so nice. it felt like we were in baguio. their electricity’s breaker kept resetting though. it didn’t really affect any of the customers, it was just something i noticed. the place isn’t pwd friendly as well. there’s a very steep set of stairs. they have a ramp-like structure too, but it’s too steep for a wheelchair. kids might also have a hard time going down and climbing back up from the place, especially after being so full from eating.

burrow, as in what you have to do to get to the quaint cafe.

all day breakfast served here, spearheaded by their yummytapaand bse (bacon, sausage, and egg). make sure you have a reservation, or else you might not have a spot once you arrive.

coffee is not exceptional, but certainly above the average coffee shop quality.

finally, the interiors make you feel like you're back at home with your mama. there's a scent of lavender that lingers in the air, and it makes for a very comfortable stay.

4/5 -- can be 5/5 if the coffee gets better! will absolutely be back!

amazing amazing ambiance! perfect for date nights or fancy out with friends and family.

the food though, was below average. the price, quite steep. we were all very underwhelmed with our orders. the only decent ones were the mushroom soup, tapaand salmon. the ribs risotto meat was so tough and the risotto was not well cooked and full of corn/veggies. the beef stroganoff pappardelle didn't taste or look like stroganoff and was too soupy. thetapawas ok, still on the sweet side. the mushroom soup was good. the fried suman and cheesecake was just okay. am so sorry! we really did want this to be a good meal because it was a christmas get together and the drive was pretty long.

really really really hope that they would revamp the menu and dishes. this place has very big potential for sure!

went here during the artis-artisan bazaar.
good thing we called in to reserve our seats for there were a lot of people who had to wait for seats. it was packed because it was lunch time.
we ordered beef tapa, roasted pork bowl, curried chicken rice bowl, the cheesecake, chocolate cake and their drip coffee latte. we had to wait for 30 minutes for the food to arrive. for the hefty price, the food is so-so. my husband was a little disappointed with thetapabecause there were a lot of fat. the roasted pork was good. i like the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.
one thing to really look forward is the place. maybe that’s why the food is so expensive?
oh, you also need to prepare your feet, for there’s a lot of walking down and up the stairs.
overall, good experience. the place is perfect if you like taking good picures.

boyfriend and i live in rizal so we tried this new underground cafe in antipolo for a breakfast date.

place: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
the place is gorgeous!! there are only around 7 tables that makes the place intimate and serene. there are windows overlooking a forest that make this cafe one of a kind.

food: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
food is normal and a little bit overprice but i didn’t mind because i know that i also paid for the place. i ordered the sausege-bacon-egg which is good. boyfriend got thetapawhich is a little sweet for my taste.

service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
the crews are friendly and accommodating. they ushered us to our table and refill our water from time to time. the food took some time (around 20 minutes) before it is served but there were freshly cooked and beautifully presented so i guess i’ll let that pass. :)

burrow cafe has one of the most unique location. located in the heart of taytay, rizal, it takes pride in its peaceful, earthy, and chill ambiance. the restaurant is inside a private subdivision and literally underground. there is a 1-2mins trek going down the cafe but it’s definitely worth it - might be hard for senior citizens though as the ramp/stairs going down is kinda steep.

we ordered the slow roast pork belly and beef tapa. the pork belly/lechon was okay..it was crispy but kinda bland. but the beeftapawas one of the best, if not the best, beeftapai have tasted. you might think that all beef tapas are more of less the same, but this is different. a must try.

the ambiance is good and the place is very ig friendly. they have hammocks where you can chill or take your photos. overall, the dining experience was great (except for the pork belly).
