oh my god! these were the words i uttered upon descending to the depths of burrow cafe in antipolo. the wooden door at the bottom of the 76-step journey opened to a sanctuary for the soul. it felt like a dream to be there as my relatives and i marveled on the scenery which was full of greens and natural elements. the structure itself was elegant and pleasing to the eyes. the sound of nature and water flowing tickled our senses. it was early in the morning when we arrived so the large windows were still opened and the early morning dew and wind were really evident. the menu as i know, changes every now and then. we ordered their tender beef tapa, beef short ribs with corn and green bean risotto, beef stroganoff pappardelle, eggs benedict with smoked salmon and bacon, nutella pancakes, coffee and fruit shakes. i personally liked the beef tapa best as it was really savory. the short ribs was a bit chewy for my liking but the risotto was really creamy and good. the papardelle was really heavy and creamy and the pasta noodles were done perfectly. service was exceptional! 😊

overrated.

the location, ambiance, and the place itself are good. it's chill and perfect for instagram, sure, until you try their food.

we ordered three (3) of their bestsellers and one (1) dessert namely (1) eggs benedict, smoked salmon, bacon jam; (2) lechon and gising gising bowl; (3) rigatoni, homemade italian sausage, spinach; and (4) creme brulee.

they could use some more seasoning 'cause the taste was disappointingly mediocre. serving is so so but it's a restaurant, or a cafe for that matter, and i know jollijeeps (karinderia) in makati that serve better food than them. nothing special or notable about it at all. food presentation is nice tho.

pricing, you're probably paying more for the place 'cause the food is truly not worth it's price.

save yourself and your money.

finally, after a month, i had time to make a review on burrow cafe. the service and food presentation are great! i can say that the place is worth visiting, but the food is a hit and miss.

lechon and gising gising rice bowl
- the lechon slices are crispy, not oily and seasoned well
- the best gising gising i've ever tasted

burrow burger
- delicious burger
- the camote chips on the side are way too salty

truffled cheese pizza
- i love the sourdough as the pizza bread. it gives a different texture and depth

shrimp, salmon, crabfat, adlai risotto
- definitely a hit!

salmon, ratatouille, pesto cream
- another hit!

black pancit
- not sure what to make of the taste, and i'm not sure why it's a bestseller. sorry

desserts
- dense and very sweet

this is a whole new fresh breath of air 🍃 if you want to take a break from the city lights, this is one of the good spots to go. nakakapagod nga lang yung steps lalo na pag paakyat but it's worth it! went here around 2pm and hindi mainit. sagana sila sa electric fan at may aircon din. as for the food, nagddoubt ako noong una dahil sa mga reviews na nabasa ko dito, at malaking factor na rin ang price. gusto ko talaga itry dito ang risotto, and it never disappoints! first time ko to try risotto (lagi ko lang napapanood to kay chef gordon ramsay haha) kaya excited talaga ko. and masarap sya bes. ninamnam ko bawat subo wala ako tinirang butil para sulit 🤣 as for the truffle pizza and crispy suman, masarap din sila so i don't understand bakit yung ibang reviews dito hindi maganda. well, we all have our own set of standards. but i truly enjoyed my stay here at burrow. only thing to comment on, matagal magpa-take out at bill out. yun lang!

to get to this picturesque location and enjoy good food, coffee & excellent calamansi pie, the first step is to reserve a couple of weeks in advance!

excellent watermelon & kesong puti salad. goof grilled chicken mushroom in bordelaise sauce & salisbury steak. slow drip coffee is good and calamansi pie a must-have. enjoy great views!!

the ratatouile pizza and slow cooked beef shanks with cauliflower are the bomb! love it!! 🥳 the ambiance and interiors were also good however, not recommended for senior citizens as they need to climb up the stairs but overall, it was a excellent experience.

my partner and i went here the first time recently during mecg. the place is peaceful and relaxing. the interior design looks old yet classy. we ordered their new menu from their all day lunch and pizza section which were the shrimp/salmon/crabfat/adlai risotto and truffled cheese pizza, respectively. they did not fail us. they were delicious.

i read the reviews before going here so, admittedly, i already wasn't expecting much. i was surprised to see the bad reviews to be honest because i've seen so many photos of this place on my feed. but we had a reservation already (from way earlier this year but kept rescheduling due to lockdowns) so we decided to just see for ourselves. we got there earlier than our reservation time but they were able to seat us immediately. was not expecting the stairs to be that -- what's the word? unkempt? -- but i guess it does the job. the restaurant itself looks and feels nice. very pinterest-esque. we were hungry so we placed our orders just shortly after viewing the menu. waiting time was decent... the salisbury steak took the longest. taste-wise, yes, nothing special. the dishes don't taste bad but they're not remarkable either so i think yes a bit overpriced. but the portions were good. service was also ok! maybe they read the reviews? but we didn't encounter anyone rude from the crew and one of them even asked if everything was in order, how the food was, etc. well, good for them. overall our experience was nice. would probably go back for dinner just to see what the place looks like at night. thanks, burrow!

just got back from having breakfast here today. i've read the reviews before going here and already tried to manage my expectations. i still wanted to push through because we waited for 2 months for this reservation.

i had one of the bestsellers - beef tapa. it was.. okay. sweet and tender, but forgettable. for the price, i was hoping for more. kanto freestyle has better tapa at a lower price.

fish and chips - i didn't like this at all, especially the breading. it tasted like a malangsa (sorry, what is it in english?!) skyflakes. malangsang skyflakes, yeah. haha.

the homebrew iced tea has a ginger taste to it. i'm guessing it's a lemongrass or wheatgrass thing. it was fine, just not what you would expect an iced tea to taste like.

the creamer and sugar that they served for the coffee seemed like it was there for a year. the creamer was hard and we had to scrape it off.

the lady servers seemed like they're tired of working there, at 8am. the guys were more friendly and energetic.

oh and my partner's dish was served after 10min of ordering. my beef tapa took around 30-40min more.

i personally think the ambience is not a redeeming factor too. it's cute, yes. but nothing else to see besides a river and some trees.

edit: just saw the receipt again. when it was presented to us at the table, the total was 1280. we then asked for the fish and chips to be wrapped up, and then gave my credit card. lo and behold, they added an additional charge of 20 pesos for the box. what irks me is that they did not even inform us of this, and charged my card 1300. and it's preposterous for a single kraft carton box to be costed at 20 pesos. can't believe they applied a mark-up for that.

i've never advised anyone to avoid a restaurant, until now. hope they're reading the multiple negative reviews here and improve for the better.

just for the experience.

i’ve read this restaurant several times on blogs as one of the must-try restaurants in antipolo, so we have it a go. went there as a walk-in and we have to wait for almost an hour to be seated. luckily, we were given the chance to dine in as you need to reserve a table at least 1 day ahead of your visit.

the place itself is something different, where you need to go down the steep stairs for over 90 steps. when you finally enter, you will see the outdoor green scenery of the restaurant. it was a lovely and unique location.

but after tasting the food on the menu, all of a sudden the joy that the greenery outside brings takes it all away. all the food we tried is just so so, nothing’s special at all. if they can improve the taste of the food, this place would be perfect.

the place is very relaxing and instagrammable.

they have big servings and super tasty too. i fell inlove with their desserts--keylime pie and suman! perfect combo with their espresso.

will come back to try other dishes.

however, they need to improve their comfort room.
