bub's burgers & ice cream

owner is great!. we've been to bub's cafe and bub's burgers and both time had the owner ask us how our food was and check in on us several times. the food alone is great, but the customer serive and fact that the owner is active and involved makes this a place i will visit frequently!

don't sit inside...loud and service slow. ok for an outdoor snack in the summer if you aren't in a hurry. mahi-mahi sandwich better than the burgers. or just get some ice cream to-go.

never disappointed. it's always good and the prices are competitive.
i think some people just have too great of expectations, jeez loweez, it's just a burger! but it's a good one. i wouldn't wait on anything, that gives me a bad mood right there. i only go when i can get right in.

during the summer, nothing beats the atmosphere of the outdoor seating. great service, yummy food & ice cream for dessert!

service fail!. fail! the service was definitely the worst i have ever experienced! we literally waited over an hour to get served a hotdog (they screwed the order up too) a hamburger, and a peanut butter & jelly! it finally became a joke to see how bad the twits working there could screw it up! when we first got there they said it would be about a 15 minute wait. (fail - more like a 30+ wait in the end) we put our name in for a table and i took my son to get some ice cream in their ice cream shop. there was only one customer ahead of us in the ice cream shop. apparently scooping 3 scoops of ice cream into a single dish is equivalent to launching the space shuttle. at one point there were three people working in the ice cream shop bouncing around into one another like a pin-ball machine...then all of a sudden, all three of them left the ice cream shop altogether for several minutes! lol! the line of customers grew and grew. finally one of the workers came back and eventually figured out how to scoop ice cream in a dish. probably took a total of 15+ minutes. we go back to look for my wife who i figured would be sitting at a table by now. wrong - she is still sitting and waiting outside! finally after about 45 minutes of waiting for our food to arrive i went to the hostess and told her that we were going to just go ahead and leave and go across the street to bazbueax pizza. she convinced me to wait there for her manager. she was just a teenager girl working the hostess stand and i could tell she was kind of freaked out so i decided to wait for the manager. i had to wait 10 minutes or so for the manager to even show up!! what a joke! the manager comped our meal that eventually our food did show up - wrong though! they ended up screwing up the order! one other thing, their menu says everything is made from scratch - bs! it was all frozen food that was either nuked in a microwave or slapped on a grill. the place is a joke. go to bazbaux or the new place across the bike path called the detour. i would avoid this dump. it looks like it would be a cool place to stop off at on the monon trail, but there are a lot of other choices now.

simply one of the best medium rare burgers i've had in 10 years.

home of the “big ugly”. this was a test run. ordered the 1/2 pounder. it was enough but i should have went for the “big ugly” (1 lb). next trip to indy, it’s done. great taste, staff was super efficient. a landmark in carmel, indiana.

i'm amazed by this place. best burger i've ever had. the server with the arm tattoo was amazing to say the least! she was kind and courteous. will definitly be back!

great place. i've found man vs. food joints to be lacking flavor and quality. this is an exception. a pretty good burger. great place to take your kids on a sunny afternoon :)

get some waffle fries and attempt the burger challenge,  i ordered the big ugly elk burger and it was very good.  i just barely managed to get my picture on the wall.  i would definitely come here again.  nice people and nice clean facility.

we got sat on a slow tuesday night--- we waited 7 minutes before we were greeted by our server ---- 7 minutes on a dead night ---- terrible!

nobody cared -- almost got up and wanted to know what was going on but i waited tables so -- we made sure once we got somebody we would be ready to order.

after watching man vs food we had to come try the "ugly" burger here at bubs. the entire place is filled with photos of people who have managed to finish the one pound burger in one sitting. the more you eat the bigger the photo , very well marketed idea. our server was very sweet she started off by telling us about the different sizes of burgers and gave us a lot of instances of people who went on to eat the pound burger. she also suggested some burgers which weren't on the menu which were her favorite and we actually went on to ordering them. i had the creole burger in the "less ugly elk " size 6 oz which had cajun sauce with elk meat instead of the beef patty. the cajun sauce was de-li-ci-ous. i couldn't stop eating my fries with the sauce. the burger was so good that i relished it till the last bite. the one pound burger didn't taste as good as ours since it had no additional sauces or dips. so i would definitely suggest trying the elf burgers if you don't have a very big appetite. the chocolate milkshake was also one of the best ive tried full of flavour and i would substitute beer for it anyday. and one thing that surprised me was they give you the jar in which it's made if all if it didn't fill up in the glass which i've never seen in any other restaurant. loved the whole set up if the place and would love if they had more outlets around indy.

there is no question that the burgers are great but the constant fighting off gnats and flies was ridiculous. if you want to spare yourself an upper arm aerobic workout while you eat i highly advise to stay away from the patio and eat indoors.

indianapolis does not have a shortage of quality burger places. just about anywhere you go has a decent burger (which is really the measuring stick for if a restaurant should be open, if you really think about it). there are many chain restaurants that have pretty decent burgers (bagger dave’s, red robin, five guys). the best burgers (just like the best tenderloins) come from restaurants that specialize in burgers. currently the best burger in indy is bub’s burger in carmel. bub’s burger is everything you would want out of hamburger. the sizes of the burgers on the menu are the weight they will be after cooking (most places put the before weight) which is wonderful. they season their beef with the perfect mix of spices. the bun is toasted and buttered, which gives the bun a rich flavor. they don’t get really fancy with the toppings because they don’t need to. the burger patty has enough flavor on its own that toppings will only mask the flavor. the burgers come in ¼ lb, ½ lb, and if you are feeling ambitious 1 lb. if you like hamburgers and you have not ate at bub’s you are doing yourself a disservice.

we love bub's! i was first introduced to this great burger place at their store at iu. conveniently located on the monon trail for those living in carmel. great burgers and fries for a great price. service is always so friendly and attentive. they have elk burgers, which is fun to try if you're adventurous! i also recommend their delicious ice cream for dessert.
