bub's burgers & ice cream

owner is great!. we've been to bub's cafe and bub's burgers and both time had the owner ask us how our food was and check in on us several times. the food alone is great, but the customer serive and fact that the owner is active and involved makes this aplacei will visit frequently!

service fail!. fail! the service was definitely the worst i have ever experienced! we literally waited over an hour to get served a hotdog (they screwed the order up too) a hamburger, and a peanut butter & jelly! it finally became a joke to see how bad the twits working there could screw it up! when we first got there they said it would be about a 15 minute wait. (fail - more like a 30+ wait in the end) we put our name in for a table and i took my son to get some ice cream in their ice cream shop. there was only one customer ahead of us in the ice cream shop. apparently scooping 3 scoops of ice cream into a single dish is equivalent to launching the space shuttle. at one point there were three people working in the ice cream shop bouncing around into one another like a pin-ball machine...then all of a sudden, all three of them left the ice cream shop altogether for several minutes! lol! the line of customers grew and grew. finally one of the workers came back and eventually figured out how to scoop ice cream in a dish. probably took a total of 15+ minutes. we go back to look for my wife who i figured would be sitting at a table by now. wrong - she is still sitting and waiting outside! finally after about 45 minutes of waiting for our food to arrive i went to the hostess and told her that we were going to just go ahead and leave and go across the street to bazbueax pizza. she convinced me to wait there for her manager. she was just a teenager girl working the hostess stand and i could tell she was kind of freaked out so i decided to wait for the manager. i had to wait 10 minutes or so for the manager to even show up!! what a joke! the manager comped our meal that eventually our food did show up - wrong though! they ended up screwing up the order! one other thing, their menu says everything is made from scratch - bs! it was all frozen food that was either nuked in a microwave or slapped on a grill. theplaceis a joke. go to bazbaux or the newplaceacross the bike path called the detour. i would avoid this dump. it looks like it would be a coolplaceto stop off at on the monon trail, but there are a lot of other choices now.

great place. i've found man vs. food joints to be lacking flavor and quality. this is an exception. a pretty good burger. greatplaceto take your kids on a sunny afternoon :)

after watching man vs food we had to come try the "ugly" burger here at bubs. the entireplaceis filled with photos of people who have managed to finish the one pound burger in one sitting. the more you eat the bigger the photo , very well marketed idea. our server was very sweet she started off by telling us about the different sizes of burgers and gave us a lot of instances of people who went on to eat the pound burger. she also suggested some burgers which weren't on the menu which were her favorite and we actually went on to ordering them. i had the creole burger in the "less ugly elk " size 6 oz which had cajun sauce with elk meat instead of the beef patty. the cajun sauce was de-li-ci-ous. i couldn't stop eating my fries with the sauce. the burger was so good that i relished it till the last bite. the one pound burger didn't taste as good as ours since it had no additional sauces or dips. so i would definitely suggest trying the elf burgers if you don't have a very big appetite. the chocolate milkshake was also one of the best ive tried full of flavour and i would substitute beer for it anyday. and one thing that surprised me was they give you the jar in which it's made if all if it didn't fill up in the glass which i've never seen in any other restaurant. loved the whole set up if theplaceand would love if they had more outlets around indy.

we love bub's! i was first introduced to this great burgerplaceat their store at iu. conveniently located on the monon trail for those living in carmel. great burgers and fries for a great price. service is always so friendly and attentive. they have elk burgers, which is fun to try if you're adventurous! i also recommend their delicious ice cream for dessert.

this was a spur of the moment stop late on a sunday afternoon. no wait, greeted quickly and sat right down. very friendly waitstaff. kids had the 1/8 lb burgers with bacon and american cheese and i had the the 1/2 lb elk burger cooked medium, creole style with pepper jack cheese and cajun mayo spread. elk was very juicy and flavorful. the cajun mayo was ok. the menu consists pretty much of beef and elk burgers in four different sizes. there are some side dishes to choose from, such as onion rings and loaded waffle fries. goodplaceto go if you're in the mood for a burger. they also have a full ice cream parlor, but we didn't have room for any dessert this trip.

went here while in business and a fan of man vs food. did the big ugly burger and barely finished one. wow- one of the tastiest burgers i have ever had. even for the size, the entire thing is so, so delicious. you just get so full. thisplaceis small and we went at lunch when it was slow. best time to go. manager came by to chat too- a class act place.

just ok..better burgers elsewhere. burgers are ok.placeis loud, crowded with hard seats.

come for the buns and the beef patty, that is what they do the best. the day after ohio state beat down wisconsin for the big 10 championship, i took my kids to bub's burgers. thisplaceis so well known to tourists, that when the announcement came over the tv that ohio state had secured the #4 spot and were going to the playoffs, the wholeplaceerupted in loud cheers. finally, i was surrounded by my people!

so here i was, in one of the top 3 places to eat in all of indianapolis and i'm immersing myself in the menu. could i do the big ugly? of course! but i didn't, because i didn't want to be miserable all day. but i will return and conquer it! anywho, i did get the "steak and eggs" burger which was a half pound burger (cooked weight) which i inhaled like it was nothing. the bun was absolutely fantastic. fresh, chewy, doughy, just amazing. the best bun i've ever had. the burger? it completely melted in my mouth. i've never had a a patty do that before. i would literally describe the texture as "buttery."

the fries were crap. no, i'm not exaggerating. when aplaceprides itself on having the best burgers around, why serve substandard fries? fresh cut is the only way to go. fix this, bub's. other reviewers agree with me.

the blueberry ice cream was awesome. i don't think they make it on site, but if they do, kudos to them. the ice cream at bub's is definitely a must-have. my kids loved it too.

i can't wait to come back and eat two big ugly's, haha!

two strikes and you are out.. the first visit we waited twenty minutes before anyone came near our table. the young girl finally explained that each server thought our table belonged to another waitress. food was good but french fries were awful - soggy and pre-breaded, frozen tasting. it was a saturday and jammed. the second visit, on a tuesday at 1:00, there were six people in the wholeplaceand it took 18 minutes for a waitress to come to our table. my husband used the restroom - no towels. the service was slow and the mahi mahi sandwiches were only fair. the peach mango salsa was awful. the complimentary chili bites at the beginning are a total loser. i will not darken the door of bubs in zionsville again.

going downhill?.... one of the whole reasons i was tempted to move to carmel in the firstplacewas bubs. i used to eat there every week - especially in the summer. nothing better than sitting on the patio, eating a delicious, juicy burger and milkshake. it was always worth the (typically) long wait. however...over the past few months, food quality seems to be going downhill. things really came to a head today at lunch. after waiting 45 minutes to be seated, we proceeded to wait an additional 20 minutes for our food (pretty typical for bubs.) when my husband bit in to his burger, he bit into a piece of paper - parchment paper that they use to line the trays. our waitress informed the manager, and she proceeded to tell us that because they handmade the burgers, this can happen, but not to worry, because the paper was 'hypo-allergenic.' soap is hypo-allergenic, but i'm not eating that. i was just really disappointed that they didn't at least apologize for my husband having to pull a piece of paper out of his mouth - quality control might need to be addressed, as well as how to handle customer service, which is usually not a problem here. yes, it was busy, but having a non-food item in your food item is kind of a big deal to me. furthermore, 2/5 hamburgers were way overcooked - ordered medium rare and received well, well done. i guess it was just well done sunday, because that's what everyone ended up with - and let me tell you, they were dry. we also waited for silverware the entire time, and never actually ended up with any. i really, truly hope this was a one off, and that things don't continue this way. i hope they haven't stretched themselves too thin with the opening of more restaurants. for the price, there are just too many other options in carmel, especially if you're in a hurry. if the burger is cooked correctly and doesn't have paper in it, it's delicious.

bub's burgers and ice cream is a fun, casualplacethat is perfectly suited to families. the prices are reasonable, the portions are huge and the atmosphere is lively and upbeat. if you find yourself in carmel and want a really good (or really big) burger or hot dog--i would certainly check out bub's burgers and ice cream. it does get crowded--and loud--and it's nothing "fancy". the menu offerings are simple--and they do offer lighter food choices (like grilled mahi mahi or a portabello mushroom sandwich). it's just a fun, family friendly lunch or dinner spot that i would visit again when we return to the area.

great burgers. bub's is oneplaceour family visits often. their burgers are juicy but not greasy, and their onion rings are the best. if you have the calories to spend, you must try one of their shakes. this is a laid back littleplaceright off the monon. expect friendly service and familiar faces. there is always a wait, but it is worth it. people come from different states just to try their burgers. as a side note, during lent bub's offers delicious and flakey cod sandwiches which can easily be shared. they are scrumptious!

adam richman led me here. i recently watched an old episode on the travel channel about man v. food. the famous adam richman ate here so i definitely wanted to hear the buzz about it. although the burgers were overpriced, i was still satisifed with the quality. the onion rings were simply delicious (then again i have an appetite for anything to deal with fried foods). anyways, i recommend thisplacefor any meat lovers.

good stuff good people. it's not often you find a restaurant who takes pride in hiring high schoolers be run so well and work efficiently. in the twenty times i have been there never once have i had a bad experience. the servers pay attention to what you would like and what you may be interested with a very in-depth knowledge of the menu. the support staff help out a lot between pre-bussing and getting drink refills. the food is priced very well and tastes delicious. even the non-burger items have a great taste to them. the side dishes add the ultimate compliments and always come out hot. i would recommend thisplaceto anyone who is hungry and wants a good meal. bub's should be proud of the name they have established.
