my bondi gem. when in doubt of where to dine, i always choose brown sugar. i've never had a bad experience in all the times i've visited .

any chance i find myself in the east on a weekend, it's my go to place for breakfast or lunch.

although dinner is there crowning jewel. great wholesome and flavoursomemenustaples.
brown sugar is a bondi institution and you haven't lived until you've tried their fish pie!

the only thing that lets this place down is the incredibly poor service.
i visited brown sugar with my sister for breakfast as she told me the pancakes were the best she'd ever had! the breakfast/ brunchmenuwas extensive and deciding on what to order was difficult because it all sounded great. unfortunately, we waited around 25 minutes before even being served despite the cafe not being too busy. when we ordered, the waitress was rude and inconsiderate. i was reluctant to even stay because of the poor service we received.
when the food finally arrived it was good. i tried some of the pancakes which were really nice and i ordered the mushroom/ veggie breakfast which was tasty. the food here is fresh, tasty and unique but if you can't get past exceptionally rude and poor service then i wouldn't bother visiting brown sugar.

on sydney's first hot day, everywhere in bondi was packed but my friend highly recommended brown sugar so we decided to give it a try. we only had to wait 10-15mins for a table for 3. there were a few things on themenui was very keen on trying but i chose the moroccan eggs and a passionfruit soda . my friends both chose the chicken burger. my eggs were fantastic! i loved that the tahini and zhoug were on the side. i didn't touch my zhoug as i don't like it. i was curious to see what tahini would taste like with this dish and at first i was a bit skeptical but it was actually delicious! it added so much more flavour and the dish itself was flavoursome! i was very happy. my passionfruit soda was great also. my friends both enjoyed their chicken burgers however both agreed that it needed more sauce. service was a little slow (after all, they were very busy) but staff were very friendly. a great experience and i would be happy to return.

this is a little gem of a cafe that couples as a dinner place throughout the week. open for breakfast, brunch and lunch on fri/sat/sun from 8:30am - 2:30pm. themenuis great, it mixes up your usual breakfast fare and plenty of healthy options. this trend follows through into lunch with great looking salads and fresh sandwiches and pasta. if you are looking for a filling and hot breakfast the basil and feta scrambled eggs is a tasty pick. if you are looking for dinner head there tuesday through sun. haven’t had a dinner meal yet but the cocktail list looks enticing enough to get me there. will be back soon.

the brunch and lunchmenuat brown sugar is extensive and varied including burgers, salads, pastas, ribs, steak, sandwiches (phew) and poached eggs in just about any number of herbs and spices. i’d highly recommend visiting after 12pm, that way you have access to the all day brunch and the lunch options. don’t get me wrong the breakfastmenusounds pretty attractive too but i just prefer eating later.

brown sugar, located on curlewis street bondi beach is featuring a special valentine’s day, 3 course meal starting from $75 per person.  this restaurant is casual so you won’t look like you are showing off but contains a certain charm to it and the food is always guaranteed to be a winner. the special valentine’smenuwill have you salivating at the mouth just reading it; and most likely give you a jolt of hope when you see ‘freshly shucked oysters’ under the canapé section, no one ever says no to a little help, especially when you are on a date. brown sugar 106 curlewis street, bondi beach, sydney nsw phone: (02) 9130 1566 web: brownsugarbondi.com.au lady and the tramp moment: a tavola, darlinghurst are you a bit of a disney fan, can’t let go of your childhood memories? well you don’t have to and nor should you, even on a tinder date. show them the real you straight up. it may turn out to be too soon but i say go for it, order some of sydney’s finest spaghetti, suggest you share and hope for the best. it ended well for the tramp after all. image credit: a tavola a tavola 348 victoria street, darlinghurst, sydney nsw phone: (02) 9331 7871 web: atavola.com.au also at shop 2, 69-71 hall street, bondi beach, sydney nsw well there you have it, your guide to potentially the best date of your life, or if they happen to be boring as batshit, at least you have the happy memory of that great meal you had, that awesome movie, or perhaps no memory at all if take my advice and head to a bar.  good luck tinderers and happy schmalentines day!  date night syd phoebe brown   eatin

brown sugar was good but not great. i ordered the pan fried ocean trout off themenubut the waiter informed that themenuhad changed after we ordered and when the food came out i found out that it was barramundi. i like barra so wasn't unhappy about the change but this is just one example of inconsistency from brown sugar and it needs work. food was nice but i found my barra with salad to be fairly bland/salty and expected more better from a $32 dish. it was really busy and waiters tried hard but service was not good - we asked for our bill 4 times and other tables had meals forgotten. the whole place feels cramped and i think they could do with getting rid of a few tables just to open up the space a bit more while also taking pressure off the wait staff as the place was overly busy.

i opted for my favouritemenuitem the ‘five sides’($15), tomato, avocado, toast, and a choice of either prosciutto or smoked salmon and ricotta or feta. i usually go for the prosciutto and ricotta but in the spirit of #realchange had the salmon and feta instead. delicious, fresh and not too naughty. the quality is top notch, and you can build little toastie combinations of all your fixins. but the real show stopper belonged to the bouy, who wisely chose the buttermilk pancakes with bacon, banana and maple syrup ($16).  i was jealous and highly suspicious of his c

never, ever again!. brown sugar's service has always been hesitant, rude and dripping with disdain. as a bondi local i have tolerated it thus far because the food has always outweighed the terrible service. but no longer. i have finally been treated with enough disrespect and attitude that i will do the only thing i can and vote with my feet and never return.

we arrived on a sunday morning for brunch. we were told the wait “shouldn’t be longer than ten minutes or so”. fine, no problem. after 30 minutes we inquired about our table, finally after 50 minutes we were given a table with no hint of an apology or even a smile.

we ordered coffees and drinks straight away and told the waitress that we were ready to order when she was (we had plenty of time to peruse themenuwhile we waited for almost an hour). we were told that she wasn’t taking orders. we flagged down another waitress who also wasn’t taking orders. we finally got the attention of the manager / head waitress / owner / maitre de and asked her if she wouldn’t mind taking our order. she rolled her eyes, and snapped that she was really busy and then told us that she also wasn’t taking orders. call me old school, but i miss the days when those who work in hospitality were actually hospitable. i know it’s a big ask to have our order taken an hour and 20 minutes after we arrive at a café, but pretty please miss boss woman?

a fourth waitress finally took our order. i wanted a simple breakfast of poached eggs on toast. i was told that they no longer were serving poached eggs (from the breakfast menu) even though poached eggs is a feature of their all day brunch menu. i understand if i was asking for ingredients that had been put away or were no longer in stock, but brown sugar was still serving toast and still serving poached eggs.

the final straw was when the table seated next to us, who arrived and ordered after us got their food before us, and guess what? they got poached eggs.

i would tolerate brown sugar’s flaws if not for the terribly rude staff. i don’t know who they are, or more importantly who they think they are? but i get enough attitude from clients etc and don’t pay premium prices to bear the brunt of some snotty managers foul mood.

there are cheaper, yummier and more pleasant places for brunch. i shall not be returning.

one of bondi's best!. this tiny little eatery is perfect for any meal of the day. breakfast / brunchmenuis full of gourmet treats and some of the best hash browns i have ever had.

for dinner is it a must you get the fish pie, it is phenomenal and served with creamy truffled mash. they also go a fantastic steak.

the cafe keeps things fairly simple with the main decoration a wall painted entirely black with themenupainted on. brunch here is sensational with amenuthat runs all day. one of the best dishes is the black stone eggs ($15) which includes poached eggs served on english muffins with bacon and slow roasted tomatoes. the home made hash browns on the side are as good as you’ll get anywhere. the moroccan eggs ($17) is also worth ordering with sweet slow cooked spiced capsicum and tomatoes surrounding a poached egg. the sides here are baby spinach and toasted turkish bread spiced with za’atar. the only fault here is the service, while our waitress was really friendly she man

amazing!. i went here for news years eve with a group of people and it was an all night affair.
a specialmenuwith matched wines, everything on themenusounded delicious and was even better when it arrived. our night here felt like an indulgent heston's feast and we oohh and ahhh over the delicate flavours of our dishes.
the wine were so exquisitely matched with each dish and with the very generous glass sizes, we were merry in no time and all.
waiters were very attentive and friendly. i would highly reccomend brown sugar.
